NOTICE REGARDING TRASHCANS

During recent visits to our community, the most common deed restriction violation we find is Owners leaving their trashcans out in public view. Trashcans should be placed in view only after 7 PM the evening prior to the scheduled pick up day. The cans should be removed and stored out of view the same day following pick up. The volume of letters sent regarding this issue continues to be an increasing expense for Copper Grove Owners Association. All expenses incurred, including postage to mail out fines, weigh seriously on the assessment paid by each homeowner. We request your compliance to help keep cost to a minimum and to keep our community as attractive as possible.

TRASH DAYS

Garbage pick up occurs on Mondays and Thursdays. On the following holidays, our garbage is not collected and it will not be collected until the next designated pick up date. In other words, trash will NOT be picked up the day after a holiday. • Independence Day-July 4th • Labor Day • Thanksgiving • Christmas • New Year’s Day Heavy trash is every Thursday, except on holidays. Please keep your trash under cover until the evening before or morning of trash day. Leaving your trashcans and bags at your curb on any other day gives our neighborhood a not-so-attractive appearance. Please be considerate to those neighbors around you and to those trying to sell their homes and let us keep Copper Grove beautiful every day.

REMINDER

The Board would like to remind everyone to MAKE SURE YOUR TRASH IS OUT ONLY ON TRASH DAYS. We want our subdivision to reflect an attractive and friendly place to live.

HOW DO WE LOOK?

Curb appeal has a big impact on your property value, even if your home is not for sale. Buyers evaluate the neighborhood, not just one house. Stand back from your house and take a close look to see if it needs a mini-makeover. Think about security as well. Has

Copper Grove

your shrubbery become overgrown, covering windows or blocking the sidewalk? Do low-hanging limbs obscure the front? Does the lawn have brown areas or weeds? Is the siding mildewed or paint peeling? You may want to ask a friend’s opinion; it is easy to overlook things we see everyday. Make plans now to spruce up. Cars that are parked in the street are also a turn-off to buyers. Make the extra effort to keep cars in the driveway. It looks better and is safer for your neighbors and your car.

GARDEN TIPS FOR JULY

• Plant fall flowering annuals where your spring annuals have bloomed out. Set our seeds like zinnia, marigold, cosmos, petunia and portulaca so you’ll have color until frost. Don’t let seedlings dry out. • In summer, prune roses to keep them in shape. Continue black spot and insect treatments. Water 2” once per week. • Remove spent crepe myrtle flowers to prolong bloom production. • Weeds rob plants of valuable water, nutrients--remove them. • Great sun/heat-lovers include coral honeysuckle, coreopsis, lantana, oleanders and hamelia. • Fertilize flowers lightly, if at all; too hot for heavy feedings. • Water your lawn longer but less frequent. Deep water of about 2 - 3” per week forces plant roots to grow down, instead of sideways into sunbaked upper soil levels. Use a bowl in your yard to measure during waterings.

TEENAGE JOB SEEKERS

If you are between 12 and 18 and would like to be added to the teenage job seeker’s list, please fill out the form in the newsletter with your name, age, birthdate (mon. & yr.), phone number, (one only) year you will graduate (or grade presently in) and the name of your subdivision. Check the list of jobs you want on your form. Email to [email protected] (preferred) or mail to Krenek Printing, 7102 Glen Chase Ct., Houston, TX 77095. Must have parent(s) permission. DISCLAIMER Neither the subdivision, nor Krenek Printing is responsible for those listed on the Teenage Job Seeker List. TRHF President Lynn Lebouef said he was proud that the kits will allow 13,000 students to receive training over the next three years.

HEALTH FOUNDATION DONATES 22 CPR TRAINING KITS TO CFISD SCHOOLS

Representatives from the Tomball Regional Health Foundation (TRHF), American Heart Association (AHA) and area school districts met at Tomball High School on May 29th to celebrate the TRHF’s donation of 123 CPR in Schools Training Kits to Houston-area high school students. The TRHF contribution was valued at nearly $90,000, including $13,750 for 22 training kits for CFISD - two kits per each of the district’s 11 high schools.

CFISD Chief of Police Alan Bragg, CFISD police officer Faladrick Brown and Deputy Cameron Brewer of the Harris County Precinct 4 Constables (and former CFISD officer) were honored. Officers Brown and Brewer were recognized for their two years of police work at Cypress Springs High School in building relationships and helping to create a positive learning environment for students. Each received the Law Enforcement Medal and certificate. They started a program known as “Thousand Guys in Ties” that has now grown to five CFISD campuses and more than 5,000 students. The program has stretched into a weeklong event at various campuses featuring outside speakers. Chief Bragg was recognized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Salute to Law Enforcement, a program that he started. The day allows various law enforcement agencies and the public to come together for a community event in which fallen officers are recognized, scholarships are awarded and demonstrations are presented. Over the last 20 years, the event has reached more than 50,000 members of the public, and each year more than 80 different agencies are represented. “These recipients are true patriots and heroes in our community,” said Chapter Vice President Tom Jackson. “They have profound impacts in our neighborhoods and on our children. They make things better for everyone around them, and that’s exactly the spirit that the leaders, soldiers, merchants and laymen of the American Revolution would have appreciated.”

YEARBOOKS RECOGNIZED IN ANNUAL BALFOUR PUBLICATION

Six CFISD yearbooks have been honored by Balfour Yearbooks with recognitions for their outstanding contributions to scholastic journalism and will be showcased and recognized in Balfour’s 2015 Yearbook Yearbook publication. CFISD ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH GOOD NEIGHBOR HEALTHCARE CENTER

In a unanimous vote by the CFISD Board of Trustees on May 11th, Good Neighbor Healthcare Center was approved to bring quality health care services to the district’s new 179-acre multi-campus site at FM 529 and Westgreen Blvd. Later this year, GNHC will begin construction on a 10,000-sq.-ft. school-based Federal Qualified Healthcare Clinic. The new clinic will be located within walking distance from a CFISD high school, middle school and elementary school. CFISD, the third-largest school district in the state of Texas, serves more than 113,000 students.

BOARD APPROVES CONTINUATION OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD EXEMPTIONS

The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution to continue the residence homestead exemptions for CFISD residents for the 2015 tax year during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on May 11th. CFISD is among a select group of Houston-area school districts that offer a 20-percent Local Optional Homestead Exemption to all resident homeowners. Coupled with a state-mandated $15,000 homestead exemption, CFISD residents pay less per year than residents of most neighboring districts on homes of the same value. The district also offers local exemptions of $15,000 a piece for both property owners who are age 65 or older or disabled. These residents qualify for an additional $10,000 state-mandated exemption.

CYPRESS FALLS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR NEWS

What a fantastic year we have had. The Women’s Choir was invited to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association gathering in San Antonio, we are so proud of their accomplishments. We have had students participate at every level of choirs including state!!! Many students proudly wore their letter jacket before school’s end and underclassmen will continue to sport them next school year. The successful events just kept rolling. The lock-ins are always a great time with laughter filling the air. Pop show, “One hit Wonders,” pleased and delighted the audience of all ages. The costumes, choreography and talent shined throughout the acts from beginning to end.

Bear Creek Animal Clinic Pet Wellness Fair

We say farewell to our seniors as they sang their final notes as students on the auditorium stage. Tears flowed and hugs all around as memories of high school are cemented. As part of the end of the school year performance, two students, voted on, are awarded scholarships from the Choir Board based on merit. The Music scholarship was awarded to Diana Luu and the Academic scholarship went to Tyler Denton. Congratulations to these exceptional students, as well as the entire class of 2015! We wish you much happiness in your life’s journey! It takes a strong engine to drive this choir’s adventures. That engine, the executive board, bids a warm and sincere adieu to our President, Hillary Bracher and her ever supportive husband Jimmy. Through the years they have attended banquets, danced/laughed alongside the students, scooped countless bowls of ice cream, carried power washers to car washes, sold chocolate, served spaghetti and barbecue, ideas... the list of tireless participation goes on. After two students raised through the choir, they have become a standard presence that will be greatly missed. Your volunteer hours have been many and appreciated. Our students are better people due to your leadership. Thank you. Deidre Douglas and Matt Perez - fearless leaders of the mighty Cy-Falls choir, have instilled honor, honesty, responsibility and the importance of music in these children. Their investment in our future can never be encompassed with a thank you. You are loved and appreciated.

CCS ATHLETE COMMITS TO PLAY BASEBALL AT LETOURNEAU

Senior Ryan Gibbs will join the LeTourneau University Yellowjackets on the baseball field next year. Ryan was the starting catcher for the Warrior TAPPS 3A state championship run in 2014 earning honors in the division. Ryan’s tremendous work ethic helped to earn him the role of captain during his senior year where he led the Warriors into the playoffs at the 4A level. CCS Head Baseball Coach David Swan had this to say about Ryan: “He has been a cornerstone for our program as catcher for the past three seasons and a key factor in our success. He will certainly be missed, but we are very excited about his opportunity to play at the college level.” Photo by Rachael Lechman

Kerry Johnson, D.D.S. Sandra DeLeon Johnson, D.D.S. CCS STUDENTS VOLUNTEER FOR ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION

Cypress Christian middle school students Avery Smith and Maddie Beckmeier and their moms volunteered in downtown Houston at the Arthritis Foundation’s annual community fundraising 5K walk event. They organized t-shirts, assisted with the registration process and set up the food tables. Once the race was underway, Avery and Maddie assisted the participants at the first mile maker, giving direction and cheering them on. They rounded out their volunteer service by assisting various sponsors in breaking down booths and cleaning up the grounds along the Buffalo Bayou Trail. Avery and Maddie said they enjoyed making a difference in the lives of those who suffer from arthritis by doing what the Lord calls them to do serve! 1 Peter 4:10 says: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others…”

CORNERSTONE UMC LAUNCHES SUMMER SHOE DRIVE!

Cornerstone United Methodist Church is conducting a shoe collection drive, which will run until the end of July to raise funds for our family life center. We will earn funds based on the number of pairs collected as Funds2Orgs will purchase all of the donated goods. Those dollars will be utilized towards the costs associated with our family life center. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used or new shoes at Cornerstone United Methodist Church located at 18081 West Road. You can bring your donations by Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM or contact the church office to schedule a time to pick up the shoes. All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of microenterprise partners in developing nations. Funds2Orgs helps impoverished people start, maintain and grow businesses in countries such as Haiti, Honduras and other nations in Central America and Africa. Proceeds from the shoe sales are used to feed, clothe and house their families. One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send to her son to law school. By donating shoes to Cornerstone United Methodist Church, the shoes will be given a second chance and make a difference in people’s lives. For more information or questions about the shoe drive, please contact Scott Grow at [email protected] or contact the church office at 281-859-4141.

“I’m In PAIN” Can Chiropractic Help ME ?

We are often asked, “What’s the best way of finding out whether or not a doctor of chiropractic can help my problem?” We believe the answer can be found in a complete chiropractic consultation and examination, including x-rays. And to help find out for sure, we will do a complete consultation and examination, including x-rays, if necessary, (procedures that normally cost $187.00 or more) for $25.00. We will make this special program available through July. The only exception to the offer involves personal injury cases (workers’ compensation and auto accidents) in which there is no charge directly to the patient.
