COORDINATOR’S REPORT

Inside this issue: Coordinator’s Report

October is already upon us; how the year has flown! We have some very special events coming up, including our major fundraiser, our 30th Birthday ‘Gala Dinner’ on October 29th. We can’t wait to share the evening with everyone and to take you back to the 80’s – when New Horizons Club was first established. The ‘Picture Us All’ photo exhibition opening was wonderful. This project has proven to be a fabulous concept that the club are very proud of. We’re already being asked if it will run again in 2017! A big thank you to City of Launceston, Patrick and the Sawtooth Gallery team for the very generous support given to this initiative. The photos of our members by the entrants, I am sure you will agree, were spectacular. If you didn’t get a chance to view the exhibition, it will be in display at LINC in October.

The club is very lucky to have this year’s Tas Bash making a special stop to visit our members and share in some fun games and a BBQ. Make sure you all visit, see all the cars and join in the fun.

4th December – Golf Day

Our Ambassador Don Elgin will be joining us to celebrate the club’s 30th birthday. This members event will take place at the Boathouse in November. It will be a great evening to reminisce and look back at the club’s growth over the last 30 years. If you have any photos or footage from over the years, I would really love to see it. Have a great month!

WHAT IS TASBASH? The Variety Bash began in 1985 when businessman and philanthropist, Dick Smith took a group of friends for a drive in the Australian outback. Expecting to raise a few thousand dollars for charity along the way, Dick charged to enter, encouraged bribery of Bash officials and fined people for taking the Bash too seriously. This first Bash raised $250,000 for Variety and today a Bash is held annually in each State. In Tasmania, the TasBash has been running since 1990. Each year ‘TasBashers’ from all walks of life raise funds within their communities and networks and then take to the road in their fantastically themed vehicles for an epic Tasmanian adventure. This carnival on wheels not only brings joy to people who live in the cities and regional communities it passes through, but it also gives TasBashers a great way in which to see first-hand how their hard work in fundraising is used to assist Tasmanian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have special needs. Come along to Royal Park October 21st, see the cars and meet the “TasBashers” responsible for our new club bus. Free BBQ, games and general fun starts 12.30pm, Park St. Carpark. Rsvp to club for catering purposes please. 6326 3344
