You Don’t Want to Miss This Activity Cardiovascular medicine is a rapidly evolving discipline. The depth and complexity of the data being generated make it difficult for practitioners to remain up to date in subspecialty areas and for subspecialists to remain knowledgeable in areas outside their subspecialty. This is especially challenging for primary care practitioners given that they are the initial contact for a wide array of disease states, and that they must be competent to recognize and treat them, including CV disease.

By Attending, You Will Be Able To: • Summarize the evidence base and rationale for revised hypertension and lipid management guidelines and describe their clinical implications • Select the appropriate tests to order for a preoperative evaluation before noncardiac surgery • Recognize office-based EKG findings that indicate potential CV disease and when to refer for CV consult • Identify the optimal management strategies for outpatients with either systolic or diastolic congestive heart failure • Define the management of patent foramen oval, transient ischemic attack, or stroke • Differentiate between symptoms of aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation that indicate treatment or referral • Identify the patient populations and timing factors for peripheral vascular disease screening • Discuss the pros and cons for bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis

Who Should Attend? Primary care physician, cardiologists, and all other health care professionals with an interest in cardiology.
