On behalf of this year’s consignors, welcome to the 34th Annual PTSA Female Sale. I can’t remember a time when there’s been so much optimism and enthusiasm in our industry. We have all battled through some rough patches this last decade but now we can truly say we are getting what we so dearly deserve. Record calf prices this fall has energized the cattle sector and let’s hope it’s only the start of a long trend upwards. There has never been a better time to upgrade or expand your cowherd. Why not start here where the quality is deep and at a function where the cattle are renowned for making the new owner money. Hope you can find your way to Cypress River on November 15th. I’d like to also express best wishes and best of luck to Kelly & Elaine Ferris of Boynecrest Simmentals as well as Wes & Dana Hill of 5 Corner Cattle Company. Both herds will be dearly missed from our tight knit Pembina group not only this year but in the ones to come. 10th Annual Pembina’s Pretty Ladies Jackpot & Show Once again, the PTSA members have brought you their best heifer calves for the Pretty Ladies Jackpot. Only the top females were selected. Judging commences at 1:00 pm, winner will be drawn at 2:00 pm. Rules of the Pretty Ladies Jackpot & Show: 1. Purchase a $50 ticket 2. With each $50 ticket, the purchaser has a vote in the judging of the Pretty Ladies show and is entered in all sponsor draws. 3. You will be asked to evaluate the 2014 class of Pretty Ladies and provide choices for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th placings on the form provided. You will be given 30 minutes to complete this task upon which you will return the form to the PTSA vote tabulator. 4. At this time, all votes are accounted for and tabulated. 5. The results will then be announced. The 5 Pretty Ladies entries that accumulated the most votes/points will be ranked in order from 1st to 5th. A heifer receiving a 1st place vote will be awarded 5 points, 2nd - 4 points, 3rd - 3 points, 4th - 2 points and 5th - 1 point. 6. The 2014 judge’s jackpot is $1000. The person(s) who judges the top 5 heifers in the correct order will claim the $1000 prize money. If no one has the 5 Pretty Ladies in the correct order, we then award the judge(s) with the top 4 heifers correct with $500. If no one has the top 4 correct, we then award the judge(s) with the top 3 heifers correct with $250. If we have a tie, the jackpot money will be split evenly amongst the winning judges.

Here is our Pretty Lady, and she sure fits the title. This feminine female has great length and depth of rib, moves freely and is sound structurally. Angel is backed by one of the best cow families on the farm. Her maternal sister sold to Dequier Farms last year out of the Agribition Sale. Angel is out of our black herdsire, RF Nitro 219Z, who was the high selling bull in the 2013 Herd Master Bull Sale from Rancier Farms. We were a little nervous purchasing him unseen but when he arrived he surpassed our expectations. He continues to surpass our expectations with his development and his first calf crop. Nitro has lots of performance, bone and a large hoof under him, and is backed by Rancier’s donor female, TLG Flirtin With You. He’s the anchor of our 2014 fall show string. 4

Here is our Pretty Lady entry that is among the first calves off of Red Power, and what a pretty lady she is! We don’t often sell open heifers but we have pulled her right from the top of our heifer pen. OVS 129B is out of Danna’s favorite Red Nugget cow, Oakview Miss Daisy 68U, who is the deepest pear shaped cow in our red herd; her depth of body is astounding. Daisy’s first daughter sold to Bonchuk Farms at The National Simmental Sale a number of years ago and has turned into a very productive cow both in the show ring and when it comes to raising bulls. This Red Power daughter has extra length and thickness with a huge quarter and so much potential. With the overall style, thickness and a tremendous cow backing this little lady, we see a big future for her.

Welcome to the 2014 Pembina Triangle Sale. This year we have consigned a group of females that we are truly pleased with. We feel that this is the strongest, most complete set of females we have ever offered at any sale. From Full Fleck to Red they are from the top of our program and they represent the type of cattle that we are striving to produce. The pair of Fleck heifers are both embryos out of very successful cows in our herd that we are both pleased to offer and sad to see go. They are followed by five very uniform, polled red bred heifers that show off all aspects of our red program. Three are out of our herd bull Erixon Top Shelf, and one is out of Erixon Wellington who we were fortunate enough to purchase last fall and are excited to see the impact he makes on our herd in the future. It came down to that Angel (the other heifer) was shown this past summer and is already show broken. Reba is an awesome young lady. Her dam is a first calf heifer who has done an amazing job, one she can be proud of and one we are extremely proud of. Reba is a complete package from her sound legs to her thick top and from her wide rump to her smooth, feminine front end. It’s hard to fault this female phenotypically and genetically she is backed by our black herdsire RF Nitro who can be seen at Brandon’s fall fair and a great producing cow family. Here is a heifer that won’t be hard to find in the sale barn.

Sierra is full of performance, has great length and depth of rib, a thick top, and great feet and legs. Sierra’s sire, Showgun, is homo polled and a non-dilutor. He was also the 2012 senior champion bull at Agribition and the 2011 junior champion bull at Agribition. Sierra is built for longevity; her grand dam was the highest selling female in 2004 Pembina Triangle Sale and at the age of 11 is still going strong weaning her bull calf off at 890 lbs this year. Sierra is bred to our new red blaze face herdsire, CMS Skywalker 305A, for an early January calf. Skywalker is out of the highly respected MAF R Horizon 7Y bull and was one of Czech-Mate’s high selling bulls this past spring. We can’t wait for Skywalker’s offspring to hit the ground because if they are half as good as him, we will have some exceptional calves next fall.

TERMS - The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should any purchaser fail to settle for his purchase Transcon Livestock Corp. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. BID - Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No private sales will be allowed except as otherwise provided for in the terms and conditions. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder. SALES TAXES – Applicable sales taxes will be charged on semen, embryos and trucking fees (if listed), respective to the home province of the buyer, not the seller. DISPUTES - In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final. PURCHASER’S RISK - Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. INFORMATION SUPPLIED - The information contained in this catalog is believed to be true and accurate.
