Congratulations!! You are the owner of the most advanced system available to protect Homeowners against catastrophic loss due to water damage. The Leak Defense System monitors the flow of water into your home 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Should a leak develop, the system will alarm, and, if the leak is not corrected, will automatically halt all water flow to the home before additional damage can occur.

System Overview The system includes a motorized ball valve, extremely low flow sensors, and a control panel with a touch screen display. Water flow is measured down to eight ounces per hour. If water flow to your home continuously exceeds your system settings for more than your predetermined time, the alarm will sound and the ball valve will close — shutting off water to your home and potentially preventing major water damage.

System Features • Constant Monitoring of Your Water System ( 24 hours per day, 7 days a week ) • Leak Detection with Audio/Visual Alarm Notifications • Automatic Water Shut-Off Protection to Minimize Water Damage • State of the art Touch Screen Control Panel with Backlight • System retains all settings in memory, even if the electrical power is interrupted • Simple menu driven programming • One Touch Water ON and OFF control from the Control Panel

Owner’s Manual I want to turn off the water to the house You can turn off the main water supply coming into your home simply by utilizing the TURN OFF WATER button on the Leak Defense System Control Panel instead of having to do it at the water meter. However, it is recommended that you use the main water shut off valve when you are having work done in your home that requires all water to the home to be turned off. To t u r n t h e w a t e r o n o r o ff u s i n g t h e L e a k D e f e n s e S y s t e m C o n t rol Panel: • Press the TURN OFF WATER button. A second screen will appear confirming you want to turn the water OFF. • If you DO NOT want to turn off the water, press the WATER IS ON button to return to the Main Screen. • If you DO want to turn off the water, press the TURN WATER OFF button again. • The Control Panel sends a signal to the Motorized Ball Valve to close, which stops the flow of all water to your home. After a few seconds, the system will sense that the valve is closed and the control panel will display WATER IS OFF.

Once you turn off the water, the water will remain off until you press the TURN WATER ON button from the Main Screen. After pressing the TURN WATER ON button, the Main Screen will appear.

If power is off, the motor drive will not function. The manual override can be used to open/close the valve in the event of a power outage. It is located on top of the motor drive box.

Setting The PARTIAL FLOW To Set Par tial Flow: : The PARTIAL FLOW button allows a pre-alarm condition in the HOME mode. In the HOME mode, when the alarm sounds, the Audible Alarm Screen (see Figure 2 on page 17) appears and prompts “Water has been flowing for (your TIME TO ALARM in minutes), is this flow normal?” This screen is displayed for 1 minute before the water is shut-off by the Leak Defense System. Using the PARTIAL FLOW feature, the system can be programmed to have a reduced flow during this pre-alarm condition. In this state, if someone is home alone and in the shower for example when an alarm condition is triggered, water flow to the home will be reduced. The reduced water flow will give the person notice that all water flow to the house is about to be stopped. This allows 1 minute for the person to go to the Control Panel and reset the alarm. Momentarily stopping all water flow will also reset the alarm. Resetting the alarm will prevent the water flow from being stopped and return the flow to normal. With a faucet open to full flow, do the following to set this feature: • Press the PROGRAM button in HOME mode. • Press the SETTINGS button. • Press the PARTIAL FLOW button. With water flowing, press the right arrow key to close the valve in small increments until the water flow is noticably reduced. • Press the SELECT button to return to the Main Screen.

20

L E A K

D E F E N S E

S Y S T E M

Wa r ning: Setting the PARTIAL FLOW condition lower than the flow to alarm point will cause the system to automatically reset and never go into a full alarm condition while in HOME mode.

Owner’s Manual Programming the FLOW TO ALARM setting The FLOW TO ALARM setting lets the Leak Defense System know the level of continuous water flow that must be exceeded before the alarm will sound. The bar at the top of the Control Panel’s Main Screen will fluctuate throughout the day depending on how much water is being used in your home at a particular time. The Leak Defense System flow bar is much more sensitive to small flows, so a slow drip may show up as 7-8 while the flow created by a shower might register at 75. The TRIP rate is the point at which the TIME TO ALARM timer will begin its count down. To set the trip rate: • Turn a faucet on full stream and note the water percentage during the active flow. • Then with all water shut off, note the percentage during no flow. • The trip rate is best set approximately 25% of the distance between the no flow value and the active flow value. This setting should be as low as possible, but not so low as to cause false alarms. The FLOW TO ALARM setting will be the same for the HOME and AWAY mode. Hence, it is only programmed in the HOME mode. • On the Main Screen, press the HOME button (the button will be shaded). • Then press the PROGRAM button on the same screen. • A new screen will appear, press the FLOW TO ALARM button. • On the next screen, change the trip percentage (using the arrow buttons) for the desired water flow rate in your home. • Press the SELECT button. You will be returned to the Main Screen.

21

Program the TIME TO ALARM setting The TIME TO ALARM setting defines how long you are willing to let water flow into your house above the pre-programmed water flow level. The TIME TO ALARM setting will be programmed differently for both the HOME mode and the AWAY mode. When you are home and the Leak Defense System is in the HOME mode, it is assumed you will be using water on a regular basis. In AWAY mode, water flow is expected to be much less and should therefore be programmed to alarm sooner. The TIME TO ALARM count down begins once the water flow level has exceeded the FLOW TO ALARM setting. The timer will reset to zero when/if the water flow falls below that level longer than 1 second. If the water flow level is higher than the FLOW TO ALARM setting and longer than what has been programmed in the TIME TO ALARM setting, the alarm will activate (see Pages 16 -18 for what to do when the alarm sounds).

Note: Some plumbing systems have some “noise” in them (usually caused by the water heater) where even with no flow the flow bar will bounce up and down. In these systems, it is best to set the FLOW TO ALARM point just inside the “noise” band. For example, if the graph bounces between 0 and 10 frequently, set the FLOW TO ALARM at 8 or 9. If the system is relatively quiet, you may wish to set very low in order to catch even the smallest leaks. If your house has automatic water using appliances such as a built in humidifier, set the FLOW TO ALARM at a higher level to prevent it from triggering an alarm. In all cases, you will want to experiment with various settings to provide the maximum protection while minimizing false alarms. DO NOT set the FLOW TO ALARM to 0 (zero) as this is used to test the alarm and will cause the system to alarm often.

Note: The ZERO/SPAN setting can also be used to fine tune the LDS in a number of ways. If a plumbing system is known to be leak free but the LDS bar graph is constantly moving up and down when no water is flowing, this “noise” can be filtered out by pressing the MIN FLOW button when the bar graph has bounced to a high point. Do NOT press MIN FLOW a second time to take a zero reading when the valve is closed. Simply press END and re-open the valve from the home screen. The MAX FLOW can also be used to tune the sensitivity of the system. If MAX FLOW is pressed while a very small flow is present at a faucet, then that very small flow will show up as a 100% on the bar graph. This increases the system’s sensitivity to flow, making it possible for it to detect very small flows and potential leaks.
