MAGNET/MOCK TRIAL: Students from Boone’s Magnet Law and Magnet Criminal Justice programs were privileged to observe a Mock Criminal trial last Friday week presented by the Orange County Bar Association as a part of the Florida Bar Association’s Law Week. Our Boone magnet students served as the jury after observing witnesses being examined and hearing instructions from the judge. However with approximately 60 students participating as jurors, we were unable to reach a unanimous verdict and ended with a hung jury. Criminal Justice teacher Joseph Windt played the police officer in the trial and Law teacher Laura Thomson (Crolla) played the role of judge. Attorneys from the Orange County Bar played the roles of defense attorney, prosecutor, and defendant. The trial was presented in Boone’s on-site court room and was a wonderful opportunity for our students to observe what really happens during a criminal case. AWARDS NIGHT: Mark your calendars now for our annual Awards Night program to be held May 21st at 6:00 pm in the Boone Auditorium. This is a memorable experience for students and families. Adequate preparation on our part makes this a super event. Starting now, we ask seniors to inform the College & Career Center of your college choice, if you are going into the military, going to a technical school, and the scholarships you have received so far. There is a separate sheet available for the scholarship information. We will add the scholarships you receive in the next few months. TEXTBOOK TURN-IN: Students may turn in their textbooks before the end of the school year. Be sure that textbooks are not needed for classwork or homework or studying for an exam. Textbooks may be turned in to the Media Center before or after school and during both lunch shifts. KEMOSABE KLOSET: Gently-used and/or new backpacks are ALWAYS desperately needed. Thank you very much to everyone who donated prom gowns and other prom attire. Many students came to the Kloset and found prom wear who truly couldn't afford it. It was deeply appreciated and the all the students looked great in their new clothes from the Kloset. Gently-used and/or new athletic/casual shoes for guys (size 8 and larger) are also really needed now. FOOD PANTRY: We recently had a really large donation of boxes of cereal and pasta/spaghetti (but no spaghetti/pasta sauce to go with it) for the pantry. There is still plenty of both, but almost ALL other food items were taken right before the Spring Break to help provide food during that week. The supply of food is still VERY low and more food items are really needed now. Please consider picking up some extra non-perishable and non-glass food this weekend and donating to the pantry. As always, please bring all of your donations for the Food Pantry and the Kemosabe Kloset to the front office. Thank you! CAMPUS SECURITY: Parents, please remember that visitors to our campus must sign in at the Main Office every time you come to Boone. Many parents have walked past the numerous signs directing visitors to sign in with the explanation: “I’m not a visitor – I’m a parent!” We welcome parent involvement on our campus, but if you’re not a student or employee of Boone, you are a visitor and need to sign in. No matter what your destination on our campus may be, the first stop must always be at the Main Office to sign in and get your visitor badge which clearly identifies you as someone who has business on our campus. For the safety of our students, all adults on campus (employees, parents, and visitors) must wear IDs at all times. Please continue to follow our drop-off/pick-up procedures including using only the areas designed for safely doing this. If ever you have a question or concern about campus safety, please contact the school.
