Competition rules and regulations Song competition Rules and Regulations 1. All songs must respect the theme of the competition ‘Sea Turtle Conservation in Seychelles’. 2. All songs must be original 3. A maximum of 10 students can enter in a group (including any playing musical instruments) 4. Any accompanying musical instruments are accepted but not essential 5. The song can be in any style of music 6. Song should be between 3 – 5 minutes long 7. Songs can be in English, Creole or French. CATEGORIES: -

CRITERIA:     

Originality How the theme has been developed/treated Musicality Rhythm Harmony

All entries must be confirmed to Environmental Education Unit at the Ministry of Education. Entrants will be expected to perform their song at a judging ceremony. A date and venue for the judging of the songs will be confirmed during the term. The prize winners will be expected to perform at the turtle festival on Friday 8th August 2014. The Seychelles Sea Turtle festival reserves the right to retain and use any song submitted for the competition for publicity purposes.

Calendar competition Rules and Regulations Students should submit a piece of artwork that reflects the theme. 4 winners will be chosen from each category and published as calendar for 2015. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

All artwork must follow the theme of the competition “Sea Turtles in Seychelles”. All artwork must be original and the students own work. The artwork must be A4 size. Participants must write his or her name, age and school on the reverse side of the artwork. The Seychelles Sea Turtle Festival will reserve the right to retain and use any artwork submitted for the competition for publicity purposes.

CATEGORIES: - Primary P4 – P6 - Secondary S1 – S3 - Secondary S4 – S5 MATERIALS: 1. The artwork must be a LANDSCAPE orientation, otherwise it will not be considered. 2. The artwork must be in COLOUR. Black and white or pencil entries will not be considered. 3. The artwork must be 2D, no 3D or relief work can be considered.

All entries must be submitted to Environmental Education Unit at the Ministry of Education, on or before Friday 13th June 2014. The prize winners will be announced on Friday 8th August 2014. The Seychelles Sea Turtle festival reserves the right to retain and use any artwork submitted for the competition for publicity purposes.

Public speaking competition A team will consist of 3 students 1. A Chairman 2. A Main Speaker 3. A Proposer of Vote of Thanks The Chairman will introduce the Main Speaker, the Subject Matter, the Question Session and the Proposer of the Vote of Thanks. He /She will speak for 5 minutes. The Main Speaker will introduce the subject matter and argues on the theme (for and against). He /She is expected to answer any questions(s) the jury may ask. He /She will have 1 minute if he/she wishes to consult with team members. He /She will speak for a minimum of 8 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes. The proposer of the Vote of Thanks will close the event by thanking the Main Speaker. He /She will have 5 minutes to sum up.

Public Speaking COMPETITION GUIDELINES CATEGORIES: -

Secondary schools Post secondary schools

1. A Chairperson: The Chairperson will introduce the Main Speaker, the Proposer of the Vote of Thanks and the Subject Matter. He/she will speak for 3 minutes. 2. A Main Speaker: The Main Speaker will introduce the subject matter and deliberate on the theme and points. He/she is expected to answer any questions(s) the jury may ask. He/she will have 1 minute if he/she wishes to consult with team members. He/she will speak for a minimum of 7 minutes and a maximum of 9 minutes. 3. A Proposer of Vote of Thanks: The proposer of the Vote of Thanks will close the event by thanking the Main Speaker. He/she will have 3 minutes to sum up. LANGUAGE: The language to be used is English.

CRITERIA: Fluency/ Clarity: (10 points) sentence constructions, pronunciation, emphasis, grammar, chronological order, Communication Control: (10 points) delivery, confidence, pause, eye contact, tone/manner, body language, Content: (15 points) vocabulary appropriate to the topic, understanding of theme/ points, interesting, good arguments, using examples where necessary relevant to the theme/ points, knowledge of the subject, demonstrated good research on the subject. All entries must be submitted to Environmental Education Unit at the Ministry of Education, on or before 5th May 2014. The proposed date for the judging of the public speaking is Friday 16th May 2014. The winners will be expected to present their speech at the turtle festival on 8th August 2014. The Seychelles Sea Turtle festival reserves the right to retain and use any views or points mentioned in the public speaking submitted for the competition for publicity purposes.

Kite competition Rules and Regulations Students should create a Turtle kite. The kites will be flown and judged as part of the activities on 9th August. All kites must follow the theme of the competition “Sea Turtles in Seychelles”. All kites must be original and the students own work. The kites should be a minimum of 50cm2. A maximum of 5 students can work in a group and submit one entry. The school can submit entries from more than one group. 5. Participants must write submit accompanying document listing students names, ages, school and materials used. 6. The Seychelles Sea Turtle Festival will reserve the right to retain and use any kites submitted for the competition for publicity purposes. 1. 2. 3. 4.
