About our service

May we extend a warm welcome to our service. We provide dentistry for people who require more specialised care. We take great pride in the quality of our dentistry and want to make your visits a pleasant experience. Our aim is to work with you to improve your dental health. This means offering advice and helping you to care for your teeth. We welcome your comments and questions on any aspect of our service. We will be pleased to discuss your individual needs at any time. This leaflet will answer some basic questions, but if you require any additional information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Who can make referrals into the service? We only accept referrals from other general dental practitioners in line with our strict procedures.

What services are provided? We provide specialist treatment in: Periodontics Periodontal disease affects the gums, bone and other supporting tissues of the teeth. It is caused by the bacteria which regularly collect on the teeth. Periodontists are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of gum disease and may provide you with treatment options that are not offered by your dentist. Endodontics Endodontics is the part of dentistry concerned with the treatment of the root and the pulp (nerve) of the root. Most endodontics takes the form of root treatments where the infected pulp tissue is removed, the root canal cleaned and filled to prevent re-infection of the root canal and the bone surrounding the tooth root.

Disabled Access We can accommodate people with wheelchairs in the following ways; special toilet facilities, hoists, ramps and wide doorways.

How do I make an appointment? We will contact you by phone or post to arrange your first appointment. Your first visit will be a consultation appointment when the dentist will carry out a full assessment of your problem and explain what treatment may be needed. If you are unable to keep an appointment please let us know as soon as possible so that we can use the appointment for another patient on our waiting list. If you miss any appointments or give less than 48 hours cancellation notice, we may not be able to complete your dental treatment or offer you NHS dental care in the future in our service.

Patient Charges We do provide NHS dental services and you may be required to pay NHS dental charges depending on your treatment needs. Current prices are displayed within the clinic or telephone the clinic. Alternatively, current NHS dental charges may be found on www.nhs.uk

Patient Charge Exemptions Please bring proof to your appointment. There are some cases where patients may be exempt from some or all of the treatment costs. If you are one of our patients and are in need of emergency dental care relating to the treatment we have undertaken during normal working hours then you can contact the clinic directly. Your rights and responsibilities As one of our patients, you have a right to receive treatment in a clean and safe environment where you are free from the threat of verbal or physical abuse or any kind of harassment. You will be consulted and involved in any decisions concerning your treatment needs and will be given a written treatment plan. Patients have a responsibility to keep agreed appointments. Please help us reduce NHS waiting times by keeping your appointments.

Our rights and responsibilities Our staff have the right to work in a clean and safe environment where they are free from the threat of verbal or physical abuse or any kind of harassment. Incidents of abuse or harassment will be taken very seriously and will be investigated in accordance with Trust policy. It is sometimes necessary for us to cancel an appointment and under these circumstances we will endeavour to notify you as soon as possible.

Data Protection Any patient-identifiable information that we store about you will be stored securely in accordance with the Data Protection Act. You have a right to access any information which we store about you and we will not pass your information outside of the NHS, except where you have given us permission.

Complaints If a patient cannot solve a problem with the help of PALS, the formal complaints procedure is available. PALS will help those who want to make a formal complaint to understand how to do so.
