COMMENCEMENT, HARDING UNIVERSITY, MAY, 9 2015 George S. Benson Auditorium, 9 a.m. 1.

Commencement will be in the Benson Auditorium. Candidates for degree should assemble in the Pryor-England Science Building by 8:15 a.m. on Saturday morning.

2.

Please read carefully: Those marching on the right, between the 200 and 300 sections (NURSING-BA, BSN; SCIENCES-BA, BS Andrews-Calloway), will assemble in the NORTH hallway outside of Room 113 of the science building. You will enter the auditorium through the doors west of the center entrance (to the far right in the lobby). Those marching in the center, between the 300 and 400 sections (SCIENCES-BS Campell-Pettey) will assemble in the MIDDLE hallway outside of room 103 of the science building. You will enter the auditorium through the center doors. Those walking on the left, between the 400 and 500 sections (SCIENCES- BS PinsonZimpfer, BSW), will assemble in the SOUTH hallway outside of room 123 of the science building. You will enter the auditorium through the east doors (far left side of the lobby).

3.

Line up in the order indicated on the list below. Undergraduates should have the tassel on your caps on the RIGHT side. March single file, and turn right into sections 200, 300, and 400, respectively. Each candidate will be handed a card with his/her name and major to be given the reader on stage. It is important to keep the card and deliver it to the name reader.

4.

Remain standing until the processional music stops after all candidates are in and then all will be seated. Men remove caps before sitting down and leave them off until presented as a group for degrees. Men again remove caps for the closing song and benediction.

5.

When degrees are to be conferred, the provost will ask for all candidates to stand. Remain standing until after the president confers the degrees. The president will ask all graduates to be seated.

6.

To walk across the stage, follow the direction of the marshal for your section. Graduates should go up the west side of the stage. The first person in each group will walk to the second tape on the floor and hand his/her card to the name reader. All other candidates will stop at the first tape on the floor. When the person in front of you moves across the stage after his/her name is called, step forward to the second tape and hand your card to the name reader. After your name and major is called, then walk across the stage to shake hands with your dean and then to the president, who will present the diploma cover. As soon as you move forward, the next graduate will move forward to the second tape on the floor. Marshals will help manage the flow of candidates to the stage.

After receiving a diploma cover from the president, walk on across the stage, changing the tassel from RIGHT to LEFT, go down the steps on the East side and return to your seat. Sit down. Do not wait for your entire row before sitting down.

7.

You will receive only a diploma cover from Dr. McLarty. (The diplomas will be mailed by the Registrar within 6 weeks of graduation.)

8.

For the recessional, graduates exit after the platform party. Marshals in each section will wait until the platform party has passed the break, and then they will lead their group out. Always walk from east to west: 1. When entering, turn right at the end of your row. 2. When walking to the stage and returning to your same row and seat, walk toward the west. 3. When leaving, exit to your right, walking out the opposite aisle from the one you entered. The center line will go out the center doors. Outside lines will go out by the doors west and east of the center doors.

9.

When you get in the foyer after the Recessional, PLEASE walk on out of the building so that there is room for those behind you. Please arrange to meet your family outside of the Benson so that guests for the next ceremony will be able to get into the auditorium.

10.

If your name has been omitted inadvertently from the list, please check with the Office of the Provost in Admin 102, or call 501-279-5421, as quickly as possible.

11.

If someone listed to walk does not show up, close the gap in the line while walking, but occupy the seat designated for you.

12.

Please wear professional clothing since this is a formal event. Please do not chew gum.

13.

Please ask your parents, family and friends to applaud only, when your name is called. Yelling, whistling, etc. drowns out the next name and slows down the process.

14.

Please do not decorate your cap or gown in any way or wear any decoration other than approved honor cords. Failure to comply will lead to your being withdrawn from the line of march.

Remember the reception in the Charles White Dining Room of the American Heritage Building on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., for graduates and families to visit with some of the faculty and administration.

Congratulations and best wishes to each of you!
