Command Line Interface Comparison of SFW 4.0 and Unix VM

This document contains a high level overview of the difference in the command line interface on UNIX VM and Windows VM. All the keywords along with their commands perform the same task on both operating systems and the flags are the same for a particular operation on both operating systems

Commands not supported on SFW 4.0 vxprint - The vxprint utility displays complete or partial information from records in VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) disk group configurations. vxmake - The vxmake utility creates subdisk, plex, and volume records for VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM). Records can be created entirely from parameters specified on the command line, or they can be created using a description file. vxplex - The vxplex utility performs VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM)operations on plexes and on volume-and-plex combinations. vxrelayout - Online relayout is a process where storage in a volume or a plex is converted from one layout to another maintaining data availability at all times. vxresize - The vxresize command either grows or shrinks both the file system and its underlying volume to match the specified new volume length. (In Windows vxassist growby performs the grow function on both volume and file system. Shrinking volumes is not supported in Windows.) vxmend - mend simple problems in configuration records. vxIntro - introduction to the VERITAS Volume Manager utilities. vxconfigd - The VERITAS Volume Manager (VxVM) configuration daemon, vxconfigd, maintains disk configurations and disk groups in VxVM. vxinfo - print accessibility and usability of volumes vxencap - encapsulate partitions on a new disk vxmirror - mirror volumes on a disk or control default mirroring vxdiskadm - menu-driven VERITAS Volume Manager disk administrator vxsparecheck - monitor VERITAS Volume Manager for failure events and replace failed disks vxreattach - reattach disk drives that have once again become accessible vxdiskadd - add one or more disks for use with VERITASVolume Manager vxtrace - trace operations on volumes

Commands not supported on UNIX VM Vxclus - Enables and disables the capability of forcing the import of a disk group on an MSCS cluster. VxCBR - Configuration Backup and Restore VERITAS Software Corporation

Vxassist Keywords not supported on Windows: convert - Converts a volume layout to a mirror-stripe from a stripe-mirror, or from a mirror-stripe to a stripe-mirror. Also converts to mirror-concat from a concat-mirror, or from a mirror-concat to a concat-mirror. growto - Increases the length of the named volume to the length specified by newlength growto). maxgrow - Reports the maximum size a volume can grow given its attributes and given the free storage available. maxsize - Reports the maximum size a volume could be created with given the attributes specified and given the free storage available. move - Moves subdisks within the named volume off the excluded storage specified on the command line. Excluded storage is specified with a prefix of !. relayout - Changes a volume layout or properties. shrinkby | shrinkto - Decreases the length of the named volume to the length specified by newlength (shrinkto), or by the length specified by lengthchange (shrinkby). snapprint - Displays the associations between the original volumes and their respective replicas. snapwait - Waits for an attached mirror to become available on a volume if a snapstart mirror attach is done as a background task. Keywords not supported on UNIX: create_ext - Creates an extended partition. create_part - Creates a primary partition. create_drive - Creates a logical drive. delete_ext - Deletes an extended partition. assign - assigns driveletter/mountpoints to volumes resetbus - Performs a SCSI bus reset on all SCSI buses. unassign - unassigns driveletter/mountpoints to volumes. rescan – detects new hardware and object creations/deletions on the bus. refresh - update of the properties on the VEA object bus. break - Breaks a mirror from an existing volume. delete - Deletes a partition or volume.
