2017-2018 COLLEGE GOALS & UNIT OBJECTIVES Goal 1 Student Learning and Success – Ensure student learning and success by promoting an innovative and supportive learning environment. Learning will support the Charlotte-Mecklenburg initiative to foster economic mobility through the Opportunity Scholars program for high school graduates and the Accelerated Career Training (ACT) program. Learning will present its academic portfolio based on career clusters and career pathways for students with multiple entry and exit points that lead to completion and employment. Learning will strive toward a more demand-based approach to scheduling based on data analytics and the Program Maps. Learning will continue to implement and monitor the results of CPCC’s Success through Academic Reporting (STAR) program with a focus on the upcoming SACSCOC Fifth-Year Interim Quality Enhancement Plan Report. Learning will partner with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) to expand the number of Career and College Promise Programs, particularly Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways, to increase high school dual enrollment opportunities, as well as work collaboratively to better streamline existing pathways between CMS, CPCC, and employers. Learning will collaborate with CMS on implementing the “Grade 13” program at all Middle Colleges to give junior and senior high school students the opportunity to complete their CMS requirements at CPCC. Learning faculty teams will design strategies that promote accessibility, quality, and student success throughout all sections of Economics 251 and 252 using the Intentional Course Design process. Learning will fully implement the Critical Core Initiative with a focus on the General Education Foundation and will continue the implementation process for the Programs of Study (alignment of courses to key indicators and signature assignments). Enrollment and Student Services (ESS) will expand collaborations with other College units to strengthen student learning, development, and success. ESS will continue to use data to identify and address factors that impact student success, and expand services to student cohorts with a focus on the College’s changing student demographics. ESS will enhance systems, processes, and procedures to facilitate improved communication and services to students. ESS will maintain a safe and secure environment that supports student success and accessibility to meet the needs of all students. ESS will ensure the College’s Critical Core initiatives are incorporated throughout the unit to support student success.

Compliance & Audit will encourage staff to stay abreast of developing topics and best practices to provide optimal services to the College. Facilities Services will manage Operational and Capital funds to facilitate the design, construction, renovation and operation and maintenance of high quality collegiate environments that support student success and learning through welcoming, accessible, clean, and comfortable facilities and grounds. Financial Services Units will continue to optimize professional development resources to provide excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders. Human Resources and Institutional Equity (HR/IE) will develop and deliver a user-friendly online Title IX Training module that is easily accessible, understood, and meets or exceeds all federal Title IX compliance criteria for the College. Information Technology and Research Services will create an environment that supports or enhances student success, learning, and accessibility by providing safe, functional facilities, supporting a culture of evidence, enhancing technology, and optimizing resources and services to meet the needs of all students. Information Technology and Research Services will participate, support, and enhance College-wide student success with the exploration, development and implementation of Learning Technology. Information Technology and Research Services will research, support, and enhance student experiences to promote retention, completion rates, competency-based education, and student success. CRMS will promote the College’s programs and services to students, using a variety of communication methods, capitalizing on the popularity of social media, to help ensure they are aware of the resources available to them at CPCC. CRMS will lead an effort to develop a new strategy for the college website, develop new website governance protocols, work with Human Resources and ITaRS to develop position descriptions for new website management staff members, and hire a consultant/vendor to design/develop a new college website. The goal of these efforts will be to produce a new college website that truly serves as the college’s top student recruitment and marketing tool. CRMS will stay abreast of the latest in communication trends to ensure consistent communication with students, including Internet, e-mail and social media resources. CRMS will encourage innovation and collaboration by involving students in marketing efforts whenever possible, including co-op and internship opportunities. CRMS will look to enhance its Social Media Command Center, using interns and co-ops to monitor social media sites and assist with messaging information to CPCC students. CRMS will continue to partner with Enrollment & Student Services to develop and carry out an enrollment marketing plan for each semester. Messages will include the success of associate-degree graduates who moved on to university programs and graduates who achieved career success.

Goal 2 Organizational Learning and Development – Foster an organizational culture that maximizes individual growth through expanded learning opportunities. Learning will create a Center for Transformational Learning that supports the needs of faculty (full- and part-time) and provides an infrastructure for faculty-led initiatives such as Critical Core, Intentional Course Design, and Healthy Program Reporting. Learning will launch a new webpage on the intranet that provides ongoing updates on major initiatives, such as the Career Cluster Model and Online Strategic Plan, to engage faculty, staff, and administrators. Learning will operationalize the Strategic Plan for Online Learning by collaborating on the development of new online courses and programs, providing faculty with professional development opportunities, and producing high quality online courses and programs. Learning will strive to improve communications through formal and informal channels within the unit by acting on the recommendations from the newly formed Communications Committee. Learning will build a more cohesive organizational culture through enhanced working relationships with other units of the College. ESS will encourage employee development through opportunities provided by the Professional Development department and external resources. ESS will share expertise and best practices throughout the College with a focus on emerging ideas, skills, and talents for individual growth. ESS will utilize assessment data to strengthen existing programs and offer new services to the college community. Facilities Services will encourage staff to explore individual Professional Development opportunities and to participate in specific opportunities which strengthens their skills to perform daily tasks and that enrich their personal interests and goals. The Administrative Services unit will achieve targeted annual professional development objectives. Human Resources will offer employee relations and equal opportunity training. Human Resources will increase process efficiency via automating former manual and/or paper-based processes. Information Technology and Research Services will provide technological resources for professional development opportunities for all employees and offer and participate in training opportunities at the College. Information Technology and Research Services will share expertise and bring new knowledge and best practices to the College through local, state, and national involvement. Information Technology and Research Services will support and collaborate with units across the College to collect, interpret, analyze, and provide data and technological tools to inform decision making.

CRMS will offer and support professional development opportunities for employees with regard to marketing, enrollment marketing, public relations, social media, design and program promotion. CRMS will provide high-quality professional development opportunities, such as off-site conferences and webinars, for its staff at all levels to ensure they are engaged and stay current in the fields of marketing, public relations and graphic design. CRMS will set as a goal to have 100 percent of staff members meet the 20-hour professional development requirement every year.

Goal 3 Community Catalyst – Be a catalyst for the educational and socio-economic development of the community through partnerships, coalitions, lifelong and civic engagement. Learning will expand its collaboration with University of North Carolina – Charlotte (UNCC) in aligning instructional efforts that lead to improved transfer student success, such as CPCC-UNCC Summits, curriculum conversations, sharing of data, and joint research and publications. Learning will pursue additional articulation and collaborative agreements with state and other institutions of higher education and other schools. Learning will build strategic alliances for workforce and economic development with industry leaders from the published top five sectors in the Charlotte region (advanced manufacturing, health, financial services, logistics and distribution, and information technology) to ensure an in-depth understanding of workforce needs. Learning will grow work-based learning, internship and apprenticeship offerings across the college, in terms of number of students, employers and participating program areas. ESS will expand collaborations, programs and services with CMS, Communities In Schools, private schools, home school organizations, the NC Community College System, and higher educational entities. ESS will strengthen involvement with external partnerships, community activities, and programs. ESS will continue to expand opportunities for students to seek and gain employment. Facilities Services will encourage staff to design and build and maintain inviting, accessible, energy efficient facilities, which provide welcoming and inspiring locations for innovation and collaboration of students, staff, and the public at large. Business Office at Central campus will continue to improve Customer Service and gain knowledge about other Student Services areas in the college to help provide service to our students. Information Technology and Research Services will provide strategic innovation leadership, research/analytics expertise, and technical expertise by cultivating partnerships with the external community. Information Technology and Research Services will participate in learning, innovation, and leadership opportunities at the local, regional, state, national, and international levels, sharing the benefits of these experiences with the community. Information Technology and Research Services will participate and provide technology and research support in the development of a global economic vision. CRMS will increase public knowledge of the educational opportunities and services at CPCC through a comprehensive public relations/marketing plan for the College, developed annually, which includes enhancing media relationships, utilizing social media and expanding programming on WTVI-PBS Charlotte.

CRMS will maintain and expand its relationships within the community, including the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, the Charlotte Regional Partnership, and in industry-related and Mecklenburg County organizations and committees. CRMS will continue to represent the college on city/county committees and within other groups as directed by the College Cabinet. CRMS will continue to support the college’s global economic vision initiative for the Charlotte region. CRMS will provide staff time and marketing/promotion expertise as needed. CRMS will continue coordinating and providing budget support for the WBT-AM “Charlotte’s Going Global” interview series.

Goal 4 Organizational Capacity to Serve – Plan and manage human, physical, financial, and technological resources so college programs, services, and infrastructure meet student and community needs. Learning will represent the academic perspective during the planning process of the College’s new strategic plan for student success. Learning will continue to implement the goals and strategies in its Strategic Program Plan for 2016-2019, which is focused on access, student success, quality, completion, employment, and global initiatives. Learning will expand the number of Corporate and Continuing Education and College and Career Readiness offerings in light of the uptick in the economy. Learning will explore and develop new programs in response to the community and job market by utilizing the online process (Road Map to Develop New Programs) to ensure quality program feasibility, growth, and sustainability. Learning will use data analytics to project employment demand and ensure a talent pipeline of graduates and skilled workers. Learning will collaborate with the Foundation and seek industry support and funding to help underwrite start-up costs for new programs. ESS will promote and encourage employee cross-training across the unit. ESS will implement or improve technology to enhance human, physical, fiscal, and technological resources. ESS will explore and expand opportunities for financial support to students using state, federal, and private sources of funding. ESS will engage in designing program space for the new Student Services building. ESS will participate in the College’s strategic planning process. Facilities Services will serve as vanguard to the college through imagination, design, implementation and management of state-of-the-art spaces which envision the future and encourage success for all students, staff and our progressive community at large. Financial Services staff will continue to monitor, adjust and employ sound internal control practices to ensure accuracy in financial reporting and achieve an unqualified audit opinion. The Business Office will create and issue an RFP for banking services and award the bid accordingly. The Administrative Services unit will plan and implement phase II of the Business Continuity / Disaster Recovery process. The Administrative Services unit will review the College’s fleet of Multi-Function Printers (MFP) and request newer models in keeping with the MFP provider’s contractual agreement.

The Administrative Services unit will assist ITS with implementing wireless printing for employees and students. The Administrative Services unit will identify options for paperless processes. Human Resources will participate with the North Carolina Community College System Office (NCCCS) as they work to define and select a new Enterprise Resource Planning system that will enable easy and robust data storage and reporting capabilities for the entire college workforce and operation. Information Technology and Research Services will leverage human, physical, and technological resources to better serve the College. Information Technology and Research Services will optimize and expand resources and services through collaborative partnerships to secure necessary services and products for the College. Information Technology and Research Services will provide leadership, support and technology to the success and timely and efficient completion of funded construction projects. CRMS will continue to work closely with and support the efforts of the CPCC Foundation. Efforts will include the Opportunity Scholars program and the Accelerated Career Training Program.

Goal 5 Organizational Excellence and Innovation – Promote and sustain innovation, entrepreneurship and excellence throughout the organization. Learning will create and provide the program areas with a template to map educational plans to career pathways based on the student’s perspective and experience. Learning will prepare a plan to review all aspects of the Healthy Program Reporting process in detail with the intent of identifying suggestions for improving the process and outcomes. Learning will pilot a competency-based approach to teaching and learning with the IT program in spring 2018. Learning will be an active partner with CRMS, ITaRS, and ESS in particular, in improving the CPCC website to ensure it is more student and visitor-friendly to navigate. Learning will develop a comprehensive and coordinated marketing awareness campaign for all of its manufacturing training programs to help change misperceptions about careers in the advanced manufacturing sector and boost enrollments. Learning will be more proactive about the utilization and allocation of grant and foundation opportunities to ensure the additional funds support the program and equipment need priorities (e.g. to coincide when new classroom buildings coming on line). Learning will provide accessible academic programs and ensure that learning materials are accessible to students with disabilities. ESS will encourage and support grant-writing and entrepreneurship. ESS will expand collaboration with other college units to strengthen student development experiences. ESS will document assessment results for continuous improvement in all areas. ESS will encourage and create opportunities for new innovative initiatives. Compliance & Audit will provide leadership and coordinate record retrieval for the FTE Program Audit as well as ensure on-going FTE compliance reviews are completed in a timely manner. Compliance & Audit will keep abreast of the NCCCS regulations and North Carolina General Statutes and assist with monitoring for compliance. Environmental Health and Safety will complete and submit required reports to the N.C Department of Labor and the N.C Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Environmental Health and Safety will plan, conduct and assess a series of programmed fire drills to evaluate evacuation readiness and overall response deployment capabilities in accordance with State and local fire code. Environmental Health and Safety will plan, organize and conduct a series on influenza clinics for covered employees and dependents at designated campus locations and will also explore offering other health monitoring services through third-party partners. 2017-2018 College Goals & Unit Objectives

Environmental Health and Safety will update and maintain a representative chemical inventory of hazardous substances and corresponding safety data sheets database in accordance with Federal Community Right to Know regulations. Facilities Services will inspire stewardship, efficiency and effective performance through evaluative processes resulting in continuously informed methods toward improvement. All Financial Services Departments will provide accurate and helpful information to stakeholders. CCE Accounting will add and offer the Nelnet Payment Plan program in summer. CCE Accounting will complete the transition to the new merchant services provider. The (BO) Business Office at Central campus will continue to improve and update the college’s Collection processes to lower the College Receivables for Student Receivables and Sponsored Receivables. The Administrative Services unit will coordinate and manage the new insurance broker services to ensure understanding of CPCC’s insurance requirements. Human Resources & Institutional Equity will continue a leadership role among NCCCS colleges in sharing HR best practices and processes, and creating a sense of community among NCCCS HR Leadership. Information Technology and Research Services will enhance stewardship, efficiency, and effectiveness through evaluative processes resulting in continuous improvement. Information Technology and Research Services will develop a culture of evidence through assessment, research, quality initiatives, data analysis, accountability, and technology. Information Technology and Research Services will lead and participate in collaborative teams to support College initiatives. Information Technology and Research Services will research, support, and provide technology solutions for the STAR (Quality Enhancement Plan) Program. CRMS will support in any way possible the college’s efforts to fulfill legislative initiatives, federal regulations, and NCCCS Performance-based Funding Measures. CRMS will announce through news releases and social media communication whenever the college secures newsworthy state and federal grants.
