CONNECTION WITH A TZ16VBA MATRIX

1.0 OVERVIEW As follows are described the functions of the TZ16VBA matrix with 2.1 o successive firmware release. This firmware version is available in the Download section of our website http://www.elprovideolabs.com The TZ16VBA can be managed from one or more CNS1000 consoles using different types of connection and allows two types of management: -

global management: one or more consoles have the control of all the output buses of the matrix single bus management: one or more consoles can manage only one output bus of the matrix

The TZ16VBA can be connected to only one console via RS232 or to more consoles on an Ethernet network. The successive figure represents a matrix controlled by more consoles:

Single bus Console (UDP/IP connection)

LAN Ethernet

UDP/IP Connection

Single bus Console (UDP/IP connection)

Global Console (UDP/IP connection)

Global Console (connected via RS232) The matrix is controlled by two global consoles (one on serial and one on Ethernet network) and by two consoles that each control a single output bus. In this case all the consoles can work contemporary on the matrix, as the TZ16VBA can manage simultaneously communications on RS232 and on Ethernet. In any case the serial line RS232 of the TZ16VBA is always active and receive commands from the connected console. ELPRO Video Labs s.r.l. CNS1000

CONNECTION WITH A TZ16VBA MATRIX

The type of protocol to be used on Ethernet network depends on the type of management (global or single bus) carried out by the console. Generally when there are more than one console that control simultaneously an single matrix is necessary to use the UDP/IP protocol. The control of the matrix takes place through messages broadcast, this means that both the matrix and the console should reside on the same segment of LAN. It is also possible an exclusive use of the matrix by a single console. This it is realized using an Ethernet network with TCP/IP protocol (rather than UDP). This way when a console is connected to the matrix an other one can’t establish a further connection. On the same segment of Ethernet network is possible to have more matrices, each with its own group of consoles of control:

Matrix 1 Control Console Matrix 1

LAN Ethernet

Matrix 1 Control Console

Matrix 2 Control Console Matrix 2 Matrix 2 Control Console In this case the protocol to use for the two matrices is UDP/IP. Besides, the control being carried out by messages broadcast, is necessary that the matrices, after having an own IP address must also have different PORT numbers. In this way are realized different groups of consoles. Also in this case matrices and relevant groups of consoles of control should reside on the same segment of LAN. When it is necessary to control the matrix using Internet, as protocol must be used TCP/IP. In this case however is not possible the contemporary control by more consoles, as the matrix accepts only one connection at the time.

2.0 CNS1000 CONFIGURATION The following notes, already present in the CNS1000 Universal Matrix Console manual to which you can refer, are relevant to the function keys and to the data visualized on the display. When on the display a menu is visualized, the keys you work take on the following meanings: • the keys run the scrolling of the menu • the TAKE key selects the voice of the menu • the CANC key permit to exit the menu In phase of settings, where there is necessary to compile fields with numerical values and/or alphanumeric, the function keys assume the following meanings: • The keys allow to position the cursor on the various visualized fields • the CANC key erases the value of the field (if numerical) or the character pressed • the MODE key chooses one of the preset variables for the field • the TAKE key confirms all the introduced values • the alphanumeric keys 1ABC, 2DEF,…ecc are used to introduce the desired values. The alphabetical function of the keys is obtained pressing rapidly more times the same key: in such case is visualized cyclically the succession of the symbols associated to the key. Later on, for how much it pertains the introduction of the settings data visualized on the display, the following rule was adopted: • the fields emphasized in italic, numerical fields are considered: are active the keys 1,2,3,…0 and the CANC key • the fields emphasized in bold are considered alphanumeric: are active the keys 1ABC, 2CDE,… and the CANC key • the fields emphasized underlined are fields that present the choice of preset variable: is active the MODE key that allows to run the possible options. To preset the new matrix connected to the CNS1000 (or to edit the settings of an existing one) must be selected the Config. unit field from the main menu. On the display is visualized the submenu of the configuration that includes the following fields: •Config. unit New unit Edit unit Delete unit Therefore choose Edit unit or New unit. The parameters of configuration for the TZ16VBA include only: - the relevant data for the communication with the matrix - the relevant timings for the communication - the type of management Single bus or Global ELPRO Video Labs s.r.l. 2.1 Connection via RS232 The connection via RS232 is realized using a crossed cable 9 pin female / female. The relevant displays for the set of the serial communication are the following: 1)

Remote unit Name: unitname Interf.: RS232 Type:TZ16VBA

2)

RS232 Rate: 9600 Stop bits: 1 Parity: None

In the it 1st screen is necessary to introduce: -

the name of the matrix (using the alphanumeric keys), useful to compose the strip of the managed matrices the type of interface (selectable using the MODE key). Choose RS232. the type of matrix (selectable using the MODE key) that allows to run the list of matrices managed by the console. Choose TZ16VBA.

Then confirm using the TAKE key. In the 2nd screen are visualized the relevant parameters to the serial communication. These values are not to be changed, but simply to confirm using the TAKE key. It is proceeded therefore to be set the relevant time sequences for the communication, the type of matrix and the type of management (single bus or global) that it is intended to be carried out by the console connected via RS232. (See the paragraphs 2.3 Communication timings and 2.4 Types of matrix management ) 2.2 Connection via Ethernet If a communication on IP was chosen as interface, is visualized the following setting display: IP Protocol: TCP IP Addr: 192.168.1 .247 IP Port:1001 At this point is necessary to define the type of protocol to be used to communicate with the matrix: TCP or UDP. The protocol to use depends on the type of management that it is intended to be realized on the matrix: If there are more consoles for the management of the matrix then is necessary to choose the UDP protocol. Otherwise, choosing the TCP protocol the control of the matrix is allowed to only one console at the time.

CNS1000

CONNECTION WITH A TZ16VBA MATRIX

We remind you that if on the same network there are more matrices, each managed by a group of consoles, it will be necessary to assign to the matrices different PORT numbers. In this way groups of console are created and each group manages only the matrix of its competence. Then set the IP address of the matrix related to its own network. To continue confirming the introduced data using the TAKE key. 2.3 Communication timings Independently from the selected type of interface it will be therefore visualized the following screen: Timing Polling: 600 Resp. TO: 1000

This screen sets the timings used during the connection with the console. The visualized values are expressed in milliseconds and can be selected from a strip of preset values, always using the MODE key. The Polling time interval is the one between a request of state and the successive request that the console sends to the connected matrix. This sequence of time should be increased when there are more console that control the same matrix in order not to weigh down ecessively the communication of the matrix. The Resp. TO is the time interval required for waiting the reply from the matrix to which a comand was transmited, it might be necessary to increase this time when the matrix is controlled via Internet. The default value is 1sec. To continue, confirm using the TAKE key. 2.4 Types of matrix management After setting the relevant parameters to the communication it will be requested the type of management desired: Global or Single bus. Therefore the following field must be compiled: Bus control Bus: 0

0=All

with the number of the bus to be controlled. Indicating 0 (zero) as number of bus means a "global management" of all the Matrix Switchers output buses. ELPRO Video Labs s.r.l. Strada della Pronda, 45/B 10142 TORINO – ITALIA Tel.+39 0117701583 – Fax +39 011703751

Connection Parameters (simultaneously control by more consoles)

In this case is set the UDP protocol as the matrix can be controlled by more than one consoles. In this caso it is necessary to set the parameter: BroadcastI UDP data: 1-Accep and set the various Routing Mode parameters as indicated. This allows to replay to the various commands from the consoles with broadcast messagges. The Destination port number must be the same with the one specified on the Network parameters

Connection Parameters (Internet connection or control of a single console at the time)

When Internet is used you should set the connection timeout, so that in case of any connection problems the connection is abbandoned only after the time interval you set.

If the matrix in connected via Internet or if the control can be executed by a console at the time select TCP as protocol

In this case is necessary to set the Routing Mode parameters as indicated
