CLEANSE A gentle detox program designed to safely cleanse and reset the body*

THE CLEANSE PROGRAM The Be Well Cleanse is a safe, gentle, and effective detoxification program with a three-pronged approach: • Provide essential nutrients via nourishing protein shakes • Energize the detox organs and promote healthy gut bacteria via targeted supplements • Eliminate certain foods and drinks that are overloading your detox system and that you might be sensitive to. You’ll be giving your digestive system a rest, allowing your body to more effectively rid itself of toxins accumulated from environmental exposure and processed foods and beverages. Your body is naturally detoxifying all the time — our Cleanse will give this natural, ongoing process a boost, help promote healthy intestinal flora, and support better energy and mental clarity.* GETTING STARTED Preparing yourself emotionally, mentally, and physically will set you up for success. See your Cleanse as a new beginning — a time to try new foods and let go of bad habits. Don’t dwell on what you’re giving up; rather, focus on your goals and on how good you’ll feel achieving them. To ease into the program, take the following steps one week before: • Reduce caffeine and alcohol. Halve your fix on the first day and then gradually cut down more every day so that by the end of the week you’ve stopped altogether. Have two or three cups of tea (preferably green) if the caffeine withdrawal is getting you down. Drink plenty of water to flush your system. • Reduce sugar and processed foods. Avoid bingeing before you start the detox as this will only make you feel worse. After a week without caffeine, sugar, and alcohol, you’ll be amazed how good you’ll feel!

S M h t c p THE PLAN Depending on the program you’ve chosen, you will have two to three shakes and two light meals a day. We don’t provide calorie counts for meals, but you should eat enough to feel satisfied and nourished. Take the pills with your meals.

Shakes Mix one packet with 8-12 oz. of water or non-dairy milk such as almond milk, hemp milk, or coconut milk. Adjust the amount of liquid according to your taste. You may also use a blender and add frozen berries, nut butters, avocado and/or unsweetened cacao powder or other ingredients from the diet plan into your shake to make a tasty smoothie. Remember to drink lots of water during your Cleanse. The shakes include fiber to aid digestion and elimination. Depending upon your digestion, you may be more comfortable drinking fewer shakes each day or gradually increasing your intake throughout your Cleanse. The Cleanse shake supplement contains: • A blend of nutrients to fuel the detoxification pathways in the liver.* • Dietary fiber which helps to bind toxins, prevent their absorption, and promote elimination.* • Vitamins, minerals and powerful antioxidants for nutritional support.* • Friendly bacteria and prebiotics to aid digestion.* • Herbs to energize the detox organs.* Pills - Take one packet of supplements at the beginning of your meals, twice a day. - Take 2-4 capsules of L-glutamine every four hours, as needed, to help with sugar cravings. Take them between meals for the best effect. The Cleanse pill supplements contain: • Plant-derived digestive enzymes to support the gastrointestinal system and promote proper digestion.* • Herbs to promote healthy intestinal flora and gastrointestinal health.* • L-glutamine capsules to normalize inflammation in the gut and promote a healthy stomach lining. You can also use them to help you manage sugar cravings.*

WHAT TO EXPECT By the end of your detox, you will look and feel great. During the first few days, however, as you adjust to a new eating regime and the toxins are flushed from your body, you may experience some of the following symptoms: lightheadedness, headaches, joint or muscle stiffness, and increased bowel motions. These symptoms should disappear after a few days, and you should feel more energetic and mentally alert, with a heightened sense of well-being.* All of our Cleanse programs offer a great way to kickstart a weight-loss program, especially our Cleanse Plus Extended. If weight loss is one of your goals, gradually reduce the portion sizes of your lunch and dinner, focusing on quality protein and plentiful vegetables at your meals. Be patient as weight loss takes time and developing or strengthening healthy eating habits is a key step. SUPERCHARGE YOUR CLEANSE Swapping out inflammatory foods from your diet for nutrient-dense whole foods as well as detoxing shakes and supplements is going to make you feel a whole lot better. When it comes to detoxing, though, it’s important to go beyond food in order to help your body get rid of as many toxins as possible. Here are a few tips that will help you supercharge your Cleanse!

Rest and Relax: In addition to possibly experiencing withdrawal symptoms related to removing caffeine, alcohol and sugar from your diet, changing your habits during the Cleanse can be challenging. Be sure to include ample time for rest and relaxation both to support your mood and to allow your body the necessary energy to fuel the detoxification process. Hydrate: Adequate hydration is essential during a Cleanse so be sure to sip water throughout the day. Starting the day with warm water with a squeeze of lemon juice stimulates digestion and can help your body’s detoxification process. Avoid Late-Night Meals and Snacks: Allowing 12 hours between dinner and the morning shake will give your digestive system a much-needed rest and it will support your body’s detoxification process. If you are experiencing constipation, be sure to include adequate daily movement or gentle exercise and plenty of water. You may also want to supplement with magnesium or triphala. Exercise: You may not have the energy to keep up your regular exercise routine during the first few days of your Cleanse, and walking, stretching, or a restorative yoga class may be more beneficial than vigorous exercise. If you have the strength, it is fine to continue with your exercise habits. If you don’t have a regular routine, week two of the Cleanse is a great time to start incorporating exercise into your daily life, according to your fitness level and personal needs. Exercise increases the circulation of your blood and induces perspiration, both of which help you to eliminate toxins. Manage Cravings: Cravings for sugar, alcohol, and caffeine generally last no more than five days. Stay hydrated, drink green tea, nourish your body with healthy food, and supplement with the included L-Glutamine capsules whenever you feel cravings. Sweat It Out: Sweat glands and sebaceous glands are essential to detoxification and elimination pathways, so draw out toxins through sweating by spending 20 minutes in a dry sauna whenever you can.

By carefully re-introducing the foods that were removed during the Cleanse and paying close attention to any possible reactions to each food, you may determine that a certain food or foods should stay out of your diet beyond the Cleanse program. Typical reactions include digestive distress or stomach upset, brain fog, fatigue, headache, mood swings, skin rash, undereye circles, or joint pain. The most common dietary irritants are gluten, sugar, dairy, soy, corn, alcohol, and caffeine. The secondary group of potentially irritating or inflammatory foods include the nightshade vegetables (white potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers) and eggs. After your Cleanse, you may reintroduce each of the “excluded” foods back into your diet one at a time, every two to three days, to check your reaction to that food.

We recommend continuing to keep gluten and sugar out of your diet after your Cleanse, and noting your reactions to alcohol and caffeine to assess how much, if any, allows you sleep well, wake up refreshed, and to generally feel your best. Keeping a food journal and making a schedule listing which foods you will add on which days is a great approach to making the most of your Cleanse. Be careful not to eat foods such as pizza which include 3 excluded foods (dairy, gluten, tomato) in this re-introduction phase because if you do have a reaction, you won’t know which of the foods caused the reaction. Post-Cleanse Shakes and Supplements After finishing your Cleanse, we recommend following our Healthy Living plan and continuing with a daily shake. Choose any of our plant-based or whey-based protein shakes. They are all powerhouse formulas for vitality. You can vary your source of protein by alternating between them. After cleansing and resetting your body, turn your thoughts towards building a solid foundation for your long-term health. In his practice, Dr. Lipman always recommends taking a probiotic after cleansing. Supplementing with a strong, multi-strain probiotic floods the digestive system with healthy flora, extending the benefits you achieved on the Cleanse. While fresh wholesome food is the cornerstone of his philosophy, Dr. Lipman also recommends four supplements for daily use to cover any nutritional gaps and optimize long-term health: a broad-spectrum multivitamin, Omega-3 fish oils, probiotics and vitamin D3. These key nutrients promote optimal health and make a perfect long term follow-up to the Cleanse. Our Daily Dose kit bundles these four together, in easy-to-use, single-serving packets.

MESSAGE FROM DR. FRANK LIPMAN Soon after I qualified as a physician 35 years ago, I was confronted by the limitations of my medical training: I was taught to focus more on the disease than the patient and I often found myself treating symptoms rather than the root causes of illness. Frustrated that I was not helping my patients enough and determined to find answers to their problems, I began a long journey of discovery, searching for different ways to put them on the path to wellness. After becoming a Board Certified Internist, I studied nutrition, Chinese medicine, yoga, acupuncture, meditation, and functional medicine. Finally, I found that by blending cutting-edge modern medicine with age-old healing techniques from the East into an appropriate mix, I was really able to help a lot of people — effectively, safely, and without side effects. In some ways our bodies are like cars: We can try to repair them if they break down, but if we maintain them well they can run smoothly for a long time. Unfortunately we tend to look after our cars better than we do ourselves. With our fast-paced lifestyles and the glut of chemicals in our food and environment, we overload our engines. And we don’t give our bodies and minds the fine-tuning and regular servicing they need.

The various problems many of us face don’t come out of nowhere. Most low-grade chronic conditions are the result of the slow eroding of our bodily functions. So I have developed an integrative approach to help my patients overcome the unhealthy habits that creep in over time and replace them with new, life-affirming practices that promote vitality in their lives. My method is simple: It’s about removing what is harmful and adding what is beneficial to support and actively promote the health of the body-mind. It’s about understanding that beneficial foods send the right messages to your genes. It’s about making intelligent choices, strengthening yourself on a cellular level, adopting a practical plan to maintain your newfound wellness and turning this into a lifestyle. I’ve treated thousands of patients over the years and the results speak for themselves. Those who’ve been through my practice and followed my methods feel healthier, look great, and have more energy and resilience to deal with life’s stresses. I have designed these products to bring this same approach to you in a way that is convenient and easy to use, no matter how busy your life. I encourage you to become proactive about your health — there is no greater reward. I’m excited that you have chosen to take this journey towards better health, and I look forward to hearing about your success. Take care and be well,

Frank Lipman, M.D.
