The CYTOCLEAN® Process Step 1: Oil and sand, rust or sediment particles coagulate to form a tough, impermeable mass. Step 1 Step 2: CYTOCLEAN® is added to the mixture and allowed to react.

Step 2 Step 3: CYTOCLEAN® penetrates the coagulated mass and starts to coat the oil, decreasing its viscosity and separating it from all surfaces to which the oil adheres.

Step 3 Step 4: The addition of water to the CYTOCLEAN® / oil / sand mixture and subsequent mechanical mixing causes a surface tension reaction, separating all components on a purely physical basis.

Step 4

Step 5 -2-

Step 5: Finally, after settling, the phases separate out into CYTOCLEAN® and oil, clean water and sediment. The CYTOCLEAN® and oil mixture can be removed and reused in combustion etc., leaving water which can be reentered into the CYTOCLEAN® - process or disposed of in an environmentally friendly way. The decontaminated sediment can be disposed of without any further treatment.

Why CYTOCLEAN® ? Bunker tanks containing various types of heavy oil, be it crude, Bunker C, MFO or kerosene are found everywhere, supplying industry and domestic demand. Environmental issues are increasingly important leading to periodic controls by regulating bodies. More inspections mean more cleaning activities. So - the financial pressure is on! This is where CYTOCLEAN® as a nontoxic, fast bio-degrading and efficient oil surface cleaner is ideal in alleviating the cost side of keeping tanks up to regulations. Why is this so? Degassing of tanks is automatic and goes hand in hand with the first cleaning step. The CYTOCLEAN® process requires no specialized or heavy equipment for doing the cleaning job. CYTOCLEAN® reduces the viscosity of the oil dramatically and thus makes it easier to remove from any surface before the oil is washed off using salt or drinking water. Skimming and pumping off gets made easy! Heavy residues and slopps are liquefied as CYTOCLEAN® penetrates them and makes them easy to wash out. Gone are the days of washing down with kerosene leaving distinct ppm’s of water in the oil. When tanks are cleaned, the remaining ppm of water are so reduced that the can be used without further treatment. No dispersants, tensides or emulsifiers are involved. No expensive special safety procedures need be observed. These are only some of the visible benefits of the CYTOCLEAN® system. The best is yet to come: CYTOCLEAN®, once applied to oil is easily washed off surfaces leaving a mixture of oil and water which separates completely leaving oil without any water in it and water which is not polluted. The water can be discharged to easily or reused in the washing process. The water free oil can be reused saving expensive disposal. All in all – CYTOCLEAN® is the fastest, cleanest and most inexpensive process to clean up any oil storage tanks. Last, but definitely not least – CYTOCLEAN® will do all this without itself damaging the environment. -3-

Doesn’t that sound good?

Case Study - Beating costs On-Shore tank cleaning by CYTOCLEAN® Process

Tank before...

Heating coils before...

The cleaning of mineral oil tanks, be they bunker or mobile road and rail tanks, is generally an energetic and financially costly affair. A significant part of the total costs stems from the treatment of hazardous residual wastes. Common procedures for cleaning tanks by regularly washing with kerosene, water and chemicals always produce a fixed oil and water emulsion, which is extremely difficult to separate. Consequentially the amounts of hazardous wastes produced are high and thus the costs of final treatment too. The recycling of waste oils and slops produced is also a costly business. To add to the list of costs are the long term environmental effects which waste disposal by combustion will cause. The CYTOCLEAN® – process offers a solution limiting costs to an absolute minimum. Oil and water are separated to 100% by the CYTOCLEAN® – process, without any further treatment required. Due to particularly environmentally friendly treatment, no hazardous residual wastes remain. No final treatment of oil or water is required, so no extra hazardous waste disposal costs occur. The only possible conclusion is that, the CYTOCLEAN® – process offers the best possible value in cleaning all kinds of mineral and fuel oil tanks. Compare the pictures before cleaning via the CYTOCLEAN® – process, with those after treatment. The extraordinary effect doesn’t need to be imagined; instead it can be clearly seen.

The CYTOCLEAN® tank cleaning process

-4-

The CYTOCLEAN® – process is ideally suited for treating clotted and encrusted mineral oil. This is due to its ability to remobilise the oil, allowing it to be returned to the production or consumer cycles.

The strength of the CYTOCLEAN® – process lies in its proven qualities in treating various oils in mobile and shore tanks, but also in pipelines, pumps and any type of equipment and machinery which may also be contaminated. Prior to treatment, the oil should be tested for quality and quantity, since these will have a direct effect on the amount of CYTOCLEAN® required for success. Rough Separation

In a first step, CYTOCLEAN® is sprayed undiluted onto the contaminated area. Depending on the on-site situation, this can be done by low pressure spraying device, high pressure cleaner (max. 200 bar) or with a Butterworth spraying device. CYTOCLEAN® now needs some time to penetrate the oil layer, encapsulate it, and separate it from the surface to which the oil adheres. Usually this process is competed within an hour, but may take longer if high-viscosity or weathered oils are being treated. Generally the oil is ready to be washed down as soon as the treated surface shows visible signs of reaction.

The oil removal process requires water as a carrier for the oil. This water does not need to be clean or fresh, but can be re used from the CYTOCLEAN® – process cycle or taken from lakes and rivers. After a short period of time a distinct separation of the CYTOCLEAN® / oil and water phases can be clearly seen. No oil remains in the aqueous phase and the CYTOCLEAN® / oil mixture can be skimmed off for reuse as fuel, leaving virtually fresh water. The residual water can be re-entered into the cleansing cycle or discharged environmentally friendly. No costly treatment of oil or water is necessary and an analysis revealed oil not contaminated with water or sulphur etc. The final product that remains after CYTOCLEAN® treatment is limited to sediments and debris that was previously enclosed by the contaminating oil.

Finally The CYTOCLEAN® – process has proven itself as a fast and inexpensive method for cleaning all kinds of tanks and pipelines as well as moveable and static equipment and machinery, without additionally requiring treatment of the environment. Where other processes may fail, CYTOCLEAN® will not.
