TO:

Mayor and Council

FROM:

Paul Benoit, City Administrator

SUBJECT:

Consideration of the Hampton Renovation Project Fundraising Plan as Proposed by the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization

RECOMMENDATION Approve the Hampton Park Renovation Project fundraising plan as proposed by the Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization (PRFO). BACKGROUND On April 18, 2016, the City Council awarded a contract for construction of the Hampton Park Master Plan Improvement Project to Suarez and Munoz Construction, Inc. and established a construction budget of $1,978,760. At that time, $300,000 in private contributions were delivered or pledged in support of this project with the largest single contribution coming from Piedmont Recreational Facilities Organization (PRFO). In addition to their $150,000 contribution, PRFO also made a verbal commitment to help raise additional funds for the Hampton Park Renovation Project. Since April, PRFO has held several board meetings, has created a comprehensive fundraising plan for Hampton and has launched a new website (PRFO.org) which is live and able to receive donations. While contributions of any amount are welcome, specific targeted donor levels have been established. Two hundred engraved bricks will be incorporated in to the La Salle Avenue entry and are available for $250 each. In addition, a limited number of commemorative trees and benches are also available through the Piedmont Beautification Foundation (PBF). Peter Fishel has designed donor recognition placards, shown in Exhibit A, that would be incorporated in to the existing design for stone planters at the Hampton and LaSalle Avenue entry points to the park. Signage would recognize the following donor levels

Additionally, naming opportunities have been identified within the park for more significant donations. These include the basketball court, the tennis courts, the baseball/softball dugouts and the field itself. One donor has already pledged $75,000 for the basketball court. If all available donor opportunities were fulfilled, this aggressive fundraising campaign would yield more than $1,000,000. Because the campaign is designed specifically and solely to support a City construction project and due to the fact that a component of the campaign offers Piedmont residents who make significant contributions an opportunity for naming rights to certain project elements, it is important for the City Council to consider affirming and supporting the campaign and efforts of the PRFO. *$50,00-$150,000 gifts made in January 2016 by Piedmont Soccer Club, Piedmont Baseball Softball Foundation and PRFO that helped launch the project in a single phase.
