CITY OF ATLANTA DEPARTMENT OF PARKS, RECREATION & CULTURAL AFFAIRS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS How many parks are there in the City of Atlanta? There are 338 parks. The Bureau of Parks currently maintains 248 of these parks. The remainder are either available for adoption or have already been adopted by volunteer organizations. How many recreation facilities are there in the City? There are 30 centers located throughout the City of Atlanta. Call 404.817.6766 for more information. How many swimming pools does the City of Atlanta operate? There are a total of 22 swimming pools. This includes 5 natatoriums: Adamsville Park Recreation Center Natatorium, John F. Kennedy Natatorium, Martin Luther King, Jr. Natatorium, Washington Park Natatorium and Southeast Atlanta Park Recreation Center Natatorium. How many tennis courts do you have? There are a total 182 tennis courts located in 55 of our area parks. How many golf courses? There are a total 6 golf courses. Specifically, there are four 18-hole courses, one 9-hole course and one youth golf course. How many playgrounds are there? There are 108 playgrounds located in 104 of our area parks. How many pavilions are there? There are 20 pavilions which may be reserved. Please note: There are smaller picnic shelters that can be used on a first come, first serve basis. Who can I contact to reserve a pavilion? Call the Parks Reservationist at 404.817.6757. Can I grill in the park? Some parks have city-provided grills and grill areas. The use of portable grills is permitted in all parks. Charcoals must be disposed of in special containers provided by the Bureau of Parks. Please note: grilling is permitted only in designated areas of the park during a festival. GENERAL PROCEDURES FOR RESERVATIONS 1. Ballfield reservations for 2004 will not be accepted prior to January 2, 2004. For detailed information, please refer to our letter to ballfield applicants. Also, please read our rules and regulations for ballfield reservations. To see a ballfield reservation application, including times available for league play, ballfields that can be reserved, and current fee schedule, click here. 2. All pavilion reservations must be made in person. Reservations are taken on a first-come, first served basis. Reservations cannot be made earlier than 3 months prior to the event, or later than 14 working days before the event. To see a pavilion application, including rules and regulations for pavilion reservations, click here. 3. Any person planning a large gathering in a park, where the gathering is reasonably expected to have between 75 and 250 people, and is reasonably expected to last one hour or longer, must submit a park activity application. If you are reserving only a pavilion, gazebo or ball field, an additional park activity application is not necessary. To see a wedding in the park application, including rules and regulations for weddings, click here. 5. Payment for all reservations must be by cashier’s check, company check or money order. All checks must be payable to the City of Atlanta Bureau of Parks. No credit cards or cash will be accepted. 6. Reservations are accepted only between 8:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Please clock in and sign in for service. 7. To provide equal opportunity, we cannot render service to persons who sign in or clock in before 8:30 a.m. or after 12:00 p.m. 8. The Office of Special Events is responsible for processing applications for certain other activities that may be held in a park. To obtain permission for a festival or special event (for example: road races, walks, runs, rallies), or to arrange a photo shoot or filmmaking, call 404.330.6741. 9. Location of Reservations Office The Bureau of Parks reservation office is located on the 8th floor of City Hall East, 675 Ponce de Leon Avenue (across from the new Home Depot shopping center). Take the Ponce de Leon Avenue elevators to the 8th floor. The Bureau of Parks reservation office is located across the hall in front of the elevators.

CLAYTON COUNTY The Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department maintains some 670 acres of park land which includes a variety of recreational facilities and programs geared to meet the leisure needs of its citizens. We hope that you will find time to enjoy all of our 35 park locations, 70 athletic fields, 29 tennis courts, three community centers, 13 playgrounds, 17 picnic areas (10 picnic pavilions), one nature preserve, two senior adult centers, one swimming pool and two fishing ponds. Clayton County International Park - (770) 477-3766 Home of the 1996 Olympic Beach Volleyball. The park allows you to enjoy picnic area, indoor arcade, game room, concessions, scenic walking and fitness trails, fishing, volleyball, and bike trails. The Park contains 13 regulation beach volleyball courts for open play, leagues and weekend tournaments. The VIP Complex can accommodate wedding receptions, corporate meetings and parties. On-site catering is available to fit your functions' needs. at Clayton County International Park is Atlanta's "park inside a park" offering a variety of recreational activities that will keep your friends and family entertained all year long. In addition to, water park and concert facility, which is open during the summer season, the park provides acres of fishing lakes, picnic areas and bike trails for year-round family recreation. For year-round gatherings, choose. Lakeview Events at Clayton County International Park is convenient to park and beach facilities. Disturb the peace or use profane or obscene language. Endanger the safety of any person by any conduct or act. Commit any assault, battery or engage in fighting. Carry, possess or drink any alcoholic beverage in any park. Build a fire, except in such areas under such regulations as may be designated by the Parks Department. Drive or park any automobile or off-road vehicle, except on a street, driveway or parking lot in any park. Carry or use any firearm in a county park. Operate any motorized or power boat in any fishing lake.

If any of the above rules are not obeyed, the activity of the user can be stopped immediately by the Clayton County Parks and Recreation Department or Clayton County Police Department.

Our facilities are available for private rental to businesses, church groups, clubs, civic groups and non-profit organizations. All non-Clayton County residents will be assessed a non-resident fee. Picnic Shelter Reservations The Park and Recreation Department's staff provides quality services for your picnic and leisure outing needs. Please take the time to read the Park Ordinances and Guidelines before completing and submitting the form provided below. We require at least 45 days notice of your planned event in order to process your request. We reserve only those shelters on the list below for your reunion, corporate outing, or birthday parties. All other picnic shelters in DeKalb County parks are available on a first come, first serve basis. Picnic shelters may be reserved by anyone eighteen years of age or older. Reservations can be made online or by calling (404) 371-2036. All reserving parties are limited to one reservation per month, per shelter. Reservation requests will be handled in the order that they are received. Park hours are from 7:00 a.m. until sunset. Once the selection is made by the reserving party, the site will be tentatively scheduled. The Reservation Agreement and any necessary permit applications will be mailed. The completed forms and fees must be returned to the Park and Recreation Department by the specified due date in order to guarantee the reservation. The reservation application and agreement documents and fees which are not received by the specified due date will be cancelled without notice. Please allow four to six weeks after request is received for refunds. WATER is located in most parks. ELECTRICAL service is NOT provided at any shelter location. RESTROOMS are only available at Exchange. Portable toilets are to be used at parks where restroom facilities are not available, if the group size or situation warrants. The site has a rich variety of small wild animals, mature hardwoods and pines, unique shrubbery and herbaceous plants, a running creek, and a remnant of an old dam that once powered a corn mill. Existing site improvements include nature trails, boardwalk, pedestrian bridges, picnic areas, wetlands pavilion, parking lot, several historically interesting buildings that serve as nature center/welcome center, a chapel, museum and programming spaces. The Summerour House, once renovated, will house the AMNP administrative office, exhibit areas and classrooms. Both the Tenant Museum and Summerour House, which are not county properties, were relocated to the site and renovated by the AMNP. The site is surrounded by the Atlanta-Fulton County Water Resources Plant and Autry Mill Road on the east, residential development on the west and north, and Old Alabama Road on the south. The Chattahoochee Nature Center is an environmental education facility dedicated to aiding visitors in Natural History Education. Located in the heart of Sandy Springs, the Sandy Srings Historic Site is the home of the natural springs for which the community was named. Also at this three acre site is the Williams-Payne House Museam, an 1870's 'plain style' farmhouse, an authentic period milkhouse, well shelter, and privy. The grounds include a native Georgia garden, an historic teaching garden and a bog garden with a wooden boardwalk. The site is operated by the Sandy Springs Historic Community Foundation, a non-profit organization. In addition to tours of the Williams-Payne House, programs include heritage lectures, storytelling festivals and the Sandy Springs Fall Fesitval. The brick terrace, garden room, and large gazebo make a lovely setting for weddings and parties. Daily tours at the Williams-Payne House are from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday. The last tour begins at 3:30 p.m. Admission is $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for seniors, and $1.00 for children under 12.

Gwinnett Historic Courthouse Built in 1885 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse sits majestically on the square in historic downtown Lawrenceville. The Courthouse is available for rental and ideal for business meetings, weddings, receptions, banquets, workshops, showers, and conferences . Unique features include a large gazebo on the manicured lawn, original turret (balcony) to the outside, faux fireplaces, 24-foot ceilings and revolving art exhibits. Areas for rent include a large courtroom (accommodates 200 seated for a plated dinner with no dance floor, 150 seated at tables with buffet and dance floor or 300 standing with buffet tables only) and four meeting rooms (16-20 per room seated at tables or 30 theater style). The picturesque gazebo and lawn are perfect for outdoor events. Maximum capacity for an informal function is 100 and formal sit down functions can accommodate up to 75 guests. Other amenities include tables, chairs and limited kitchen facilities. Rockdale County Parks & Recreation www.rockdalecounty.org Parks Rental Rules and Regulations Purpose: The purpose of facilities is to satisfy the activity, social, meeting space and recreational needs of the citizens of Rockdale County. Certain regulations become necessary to assure fair usage and to provide the maximum effective use for the greatest number of people possible. 1. All activities conducted on Rockdale County Parks and Recreation property must be in compliance with local, state and federal laws and in keeping with standards of reasonable behavior. 2. Use of recreation facilities by non-recreational affiliated groups, shall not have priority over, nor in any way conflict with, any recreation affiliated activity. 3. The department may approve the use of recreation facilities, by non-recreation groups, in the following categories: o Rockdale County residents and businesses o Civic groups and churches o Commercial o Out-of-County individual, group and business 4. Rental will only be issued to persons 21 years of age or older 5. Specific approval by the Parks and Recreation Director is required if an event will involve admission fees or fund raising. 6. Each user group shall agree to "hold harmless" the Rockdale County Parks and Recreation Department for any action or conduct of any individual participation in the activities on the rented facilities. 7. The person named on the Rental Agreement shall be present at the function and any action or conduct of any individual participation in the activities on the rented facilities. 8. Rental party must vacate the facility when the reservation time expires. The facility will be used for the reservation time only by the renting party. Renting party must vacate the facility whether people are waiting to use the facility or not. 9. Renters must agree to clean up the facilities after the function by depositing all refuse and litter in the trash dumpster and to include the restroom in cleanup. 10. All activities must be completed by 11:00pm unless prior approval has been given by the Parks and Recreation Department and is noted on the rental agreement. 11. All decorating, covering or changing of the facility and equipment should be discussed at the time the reservation is made and put in writing as a part of the rental agreement. All decorations shall be put up and taken down on the day of the function during the period of time for which the facility is reserved. The use of cellophane, scotch or adhesive tapes, nails, staples, screws, etc on the tables or other equipment of the facility are not allowed. 12. Bands or sound systems are not allowed outdoor facilities without written permission from the Parks and Recreation Department. 13. All pets accompanying participants or spectators must be leashed. 14. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted on Rockdale County Parks and Recreation property. 15. Absolutely no motorcycling, bicycle riding, roller skating, skateboarding, etc is allowed on any of the Parks and Recreation DepartmentÕs tennis courts, pool decks, gym floors, ballfields. 16. No vehicles other than Rockdale County vehicles will be allowed inside the service road area unless authorized in writing by Parks and Recreation.

17. Groups composed of ages 11 and under must be supervised by one adult for every 10 children at all times while they are using the facilities. The reservation must be taken out by one of the adults who will be supervising the function. 18. Groups composed of ages 12-17 must be supervised by one adult for every 15 youth at all times while they are using the facilities. The reservation must be taken out by one of the adults who will be supervision the function. 19. An employee of the Parks and Recreation Department must be present to open and secure the building and to supervise certain activities, which call for it. The employee shall have the authority to determine the playability of facilities and to request assistance from local police, if deemed necessary. If unruly behavior or unsportsmanlike conduct is displayed by spectators, coaches or players, the employee of the Parks and Recreation Department has the authority to take disciplinary action including suspension of the activity or barring the renters from future use of parks and recreation facilities. NOTE: It is the responsibility of the renting party to request parties using the pavilion without reservations to leave the pavilion area.

Reserving a Park Facility The Rockdale County Parks and Recreation Department has the right to revoke a rental agreement for violation of any of these policies. Payment of Fees: 1. All fees must be paid within one week of verbal reservations of the facility. The only exceptions are: light fees at Johnson Park Softball fields and North Central Sports Complex. 2. Cancellation of a reservation for a facility must be done 1 week prior to reservation date for full refund. EXECPTION: Reservation fees for the pavilions at Pine Log Park, Black Shoals Park and the South Rockdale Community Park are non-refundable. 3. Pool Rental: In case of inclement weather, staff will wait 30 minutes, if weather persists, a full refund will be given. Partial refund will be granted if party begins and inclement weather develops. Definitions: 1. Rockdale County Residents and Businesses: This category includes someone whose primary residence or place of business is located within the county limits of Rockdale. 2. Civic Groups and Churches: This category is for organizations based in Rockdale County and churches that own land within Rockdale County. Organizations in this category must be of religious, charitable, fraternal or educational nature. Examples include but are not limited to Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and churches that own property in Rockdale County. 3. Commercial: This category includes functions where the individual or business is conducting business related sales or marketing type function/meetings. 4. Out-of-County Individual, Group and Business: This category includes someone whose primary residence is located outside the county limits of Rockdale or a group or business that does not qualify under "civic group" or "Rockdale County resident and business" categories.
