Places of interest Friedrich List Memorial Friedrich List (1789 – 1846) was a national economist, railway pioneer, publicist and a champion of the German customs union cause.  ⓭ Marienkirche This church was built between 1247 and 1343 as a Gothic basilica. The chancel features elements of the late romantic period. The West Tower (71 m) houses a gilded sculpture of an angel dating back to 1343. The church sustained heavy damage in the city fire of 1726. All that remain are the late Gothic sepulchre and the font dating back to 1499. Between 1893 and 1901 thorough restoration in the Neo-Gothic style. In 1988, the Marienkirche was declared a “national cultural monument”.  ❹

A sculpture of the church patron saint dating from 1914 stands against the chancel wall.  ❶ Tübinger Tor The gate was constructed in the mid 13th century. Half timbered addition dating back to 1330. The only main gate which remains of the medieval fortifications. Late Gothic crucifixion group in trefoil on the outside.  ⓫

Marktbrunnen and Marktplatz In around 1180, Reutlingen was granted the right to hold a market by the Staufen Emperor Friedrich I. Barbarossa. Cobblestones on the Marktplatz (Market Square) indicate the floor plan of the Renaissance City Hall which was des troyed during the city fire of 1726. The Marktbrunnen (Market Fountain) was built in 1570 by Leonhard Baumhauer and renovated in 1901 by Carl Lindenberger. The column in the fountain forms the plinth for a statue of Emperor Maximilian II. (1527–1576) in knightly armour.  ⓬
