Creating Lesson Plans: ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Log in to CIITS Go to Classrooms Click on Instructional Materials Below Create choose Lesson Plan Click GO

Section 1: Define Properties 

   

Title: Lesson name or number o Naming Convention: Grade, Content, Curricular Unit, Instructional Unit, Lesson  Example: 03 ELA – Unit 2 - A Day’s Work – Lesson 1  See and discuss naming convention examples: We must be careful to avoid duplicates. Subject: Content specific Grade: Grade specific Description: Lesson Description, resources, page #s… Duration: Length of Lesson – Insert # of Days (As the curriculum is built, the Lesson Plan, Instructional Unit, and Curricular Unit durations will have to match the Curriculum duration.)

Section 1 Example:

Click Save and Continue to proceed to Section 2

Section 2: Align Standards When aligning standards for the lesson, be sure to include only the standard(s) that will be the focus of this specific lesson. ~ The default standards will be the standards for the content and grade entered in Section 1. ~ If necessary, you may add standards from another content area and/or grade level. If you are selecting standards from different content areas: o Using the Subject and/or grade level “drop down” make adjustments as needed and select the appropriate standard. o Click Save at the bottom when you are finished in each content area and then Save and Continue to advance to the Next Tab. ~ It is important to note that when selecting standards you can toggle to expand or collapse standards and if you click on the text instead of selecting the “check” box you will automatically include the standards below.

Section 2 Example:

Click Save and Continue to proceed to Section 3

Section 3: Create Content ~ Keep the radio button set to District Template. ~ In the Content Template area complete each “tab/section” beginning with Essential/Guiding Questions. ~ Skip the “Lesson Plan” tab … You are building your lesson plan. 

Essential/Guiding Questions:

Include pre-planned higher level questions for this lesson. Are students asking questions? Student friendly/deconstructed learning targets Include a description of lesson expectations…including the formative and/or summative assessment(s) that will be used. These documents can be included as a resource in Section 4. List your Engagement Strategies and 21st Century Learning Skills Plan for differentiation… Include advanced/struggling students What technology will be used? As necessary, include both student and teacher use of technology. Any planning/instruction “thoughts” before, during or after the lesson? Include step by step, detailed directions. Include any additional information that is not include in the description or another section of the lesson plan that will make for more effective planning/teaching. What curricular connections are included in this lesson? Plan for misconceptions … If some occur during lesson include these for future preparation and planning. Materials: Include any books, handouts, supplies, web pages, and page numbers in text books…

~ Note: If nothing exists for a category, write the word “Add.” If the section remains blank it will not display on the lesson plan template. ~ You do not have to click on Save between each category. It will automatically save the content you put in each component. ~ Do Not copy and paste any images into the templates, assessments… ~ Be sure to click Save and Continue to move on to Section 4.

Section 4: Link Related Materials In Section 4 link any resource files needed for this lesson. These resources could include: Word documents, PowerPoint Presentations, image files, formative and/or summative assessments, graphic organizers … On the Link Related Materials tab… Click on the Create and Link New Materials’ Tab

     

Title: Name of resource (Include grade, subject, unit and lesson.) Subject and Grade: Same as listed in lesson Description: Brief description of resource and type of resource (Word, PDF, PowerPoint…) Duration: Leave Blank Format: Handout, Image, Teacher Planning Material … (If not sure, choose Teacher Planning Material) Click Browse to locate the file … select the file to be uploaded o Click Upload o Click Create and Link (You must click Create and Link for your resource to save!) If you just click Save the page will save, but your resource will not be attached. o Click Save and then click:

“View Materials” to review your Lesson Plan for accuracy

~ Review your lesson plan ~ If you need to make corrections, additions … click “Edit this Lesson Plan”

~ Navigate through the tabs and make any needed corrections. ~ Be sure to Save any changes. ~ Click View Materials To share this lesson plan with other teachers in your building/district, click Submit for Approval. To add this lesson plan to your calendar…Click Schedule this Lesson Plan. Use the drop down to choose the calendar (content area/period) on which to schedule this lesson and click on the date the lesson will be taught. Under the calendar, click Save and Go to Planner. Review the scheduling of this lesson plan and make adjustments as needed. Note: CIITS curriculum building documents are made available through SchoolNet on the CIITS website. Some of the information from those training documents is used in this document …but has possibly been modified to meet the needs of our curriculum transfer.
