Jesus said, “Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Mt 19:14)

Parish Office Hours Monday-Thursday 9:00am-5:00pm Friday 9:00am-1:00pm

Following our Savior’s footsteps as a Eucharistic community of believers, we form One Body in Christ. It is our goal to assist families in the formation of children in the Catholic faith, so that they may grow in the love and knowledge of God, and in their desire to live as disciples of Jesus by love and service to others. We are grateful to our volunteer catechists and helpers, who generously give their time and talent to this ministry. Growth is an organic process, which is always slow and gradual, but certain. Growth in faith comes more naturally by being close to the One who is the source and summit of faith: Jesus Christ Himself. Being with Jesus is the best way to learn about faith. Being with Jesus means to get to know Him in the Bible, the Sacraments, and the liturgical life of the Church, His Mystical Body. To know Jesus is to love Him; to love Him is to serve as He served: by giving us all His own life on the Cross. Being with Jesus is not something occasional, or sporadic, but life-long.

Therefore, our program begins with kindergarten and continues through fifth grade. Each and every year is important in a child’s religious development and in his or her full participation in our parish community. Our parish is blessed with 135 children and 25 Catechists and Aides in Elementary Faith Formation, 25 children in the choir, and 20 children partaking in the breaking of the Word. Besides our Faith Formation classes, we also hold different activities such as: Children’s Mass, Pancake Breakfast, Saints Costumes, Advent Wreath Workshop, Christmas Pizza and Bingo, and May Crowning. Each of our students has truly brought such blessings, joy, and happiness to our program. Their holy innocence reflects the beauty and the love of God. May God, who is the source of all goodness, continue to bless and protect each of our students and teachers throughout this faith formation year.

Refugee Family Update Our refugee family had another big week. To kick off the week, they moved to a new apartment in Oakland that is a safe walk to the elementary school, their relatives, the grocery store, Fruitvale BART station, adult English classes and the Burmese center. With the new apartment located on the third floor and with no elevator, the move was made possible with the help of parishioners, sons of parishioners who are in college and the relatives of our refugee family. The girls have transferred to their new school and are making the transition with their new first and third grade teachers, classrooms and classmates. Our father and mother had appointments at the DMV this week to get their California IDs. Dad needs the Cal ID in order to work and open a bank account and he couldn’t get the ID until he received his Social Security card. Dad also had a Welfare to Work program appointment to set up English as a Second Language classes as a condition of the governmental cash aid. They also received tutoring from our parishioners after Sunday Mass and after school on Wednesday. When you see them at our 10:30 Mass, please feel free to introduce yourself. If you would like to get involved in any way, please email [email protected]. We can use more assistant tutors, and more drivers.

REFLECTING ON THE GOSPEL Liturgy of the Hours: Solemnity Three hang on crosses, suffering and dying. One reviles, one begs for salvation, One promises Paradise. Indeed, only One can promise Paradise. Who but “the Christ of God” could make such a promise? Who but a divine King could reach beyond his own suffering and dying to bestow Life on another? Who but One totally innocent of evil could draw goodness out of one who is “condemned justly”? Three hang on crosses. One remains condemned. One is redeemed. One will rise from the dead, King of the universe. -Living Liturgy™, Christ the King 2016
