Christian Health Professionals Conference Helping Yourself to Health 14 -16 March 2014 Clinical Education Centre Sydney Adventist Hospital 185 Fox Valley Road Wahroonga
Welcome It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2014 Health Professionals Conference. Over the years we have conducted a number of these events around Australia and across the Pacific. The last one was in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea where we had over 400 very enthusiastic doctors, nurses and allied health professionals present. It was a great time and I believe we are also in for a great time at this Conference. This is an opportunity to network with like-minded people who are also committed to health. Thank you for choosing to attend and to support each other in our health care endeavours. We have chosen the theme Helping Yourself to Health. You are working in health care, but are you helping yourself, your families and those you influence towards health? It is important that health carers also look after their own health. Much of our health care system is actually a disease care system. At this Conference we have a chance to focus for a while on our own health needs. Our physical and nutritional health is important, but I believe it is inseparably and wholistically wrapped up with our emotional, mental and spiritual health. This is a Christian health professionals conference so we will be looking at all of these aspects of health from a Christian perspective. I would like to think that this is a conference where you are inspired and motivated to move forward in your personal and professional lives, determined that you will ‘help yourself to health’. We are very grateful to our speakers who have taken time out from their busy programs to be with us. I particularly want to acknowledge our overseas speakers who have not given their time to present, but also to travel from the United States. That is real commitment. I would like to thank Sydney Adventist Hospital for working with us to stage this event. I want to express my appreciation to all who have contributed to the event planning and organising; with a special thanks to my assistant, Liz Dunstan. If you have any questions or concerns during the conference contact either Liz or myself as we want you to really enjoy this weekend.

Helping Yourself to Health Transport Information Catching the TRAIN from the Airport When you exit from the customs area go to the right and follow arrow directions to the lifts which will take you to the train platform. Buy a ticket at the ticket counter (About $15) Go to Platform 1 and take train to Central Station (in the city) Get off the train at Central Station and walk to the end of the platform where there is a lift which will take you down to Platform 16. If unsure, ask an attendant at the Station. Listen to the announcements and read the TV monitors for the train to Hornsby but you need to note that it is going to stop at Turramurra or Wahroonga where you need to get off. (Not all trains stop at Turramurra or Wahroonga). 1. When you arrive at Turramurra station take the stairs to the top at the end of the platform and turn left. This will take you out to the Taxi rank. Ask the taxi driver to take you to Sydney Adventist Hospial at 185 Fox Valley Road, Wahroonga or to Hotel Ibis at 200-212 Pennant Hills Road, Thornleigh. 2. By Bus – Follow the same instructions as for the taxi rank and ask someone where you get the bus to Fox Valley Road, Wahroonga. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the closest stop to the Sydney Adventist Hospital (SAH) which is the largest and well known building in the area.
3. Wahroonga Station – go up the stairs and turn right which will take you around to the main street of the shopping village. Halfway along the street you will see a taxi rank. It is a fairly short drive to the hospital from here.
