I. Fundamental Elements of Dance: embodied exploration and integration of elements of dance. Student demonstrates: Willingness to engage in and experiment with approaches to creating new movement Kinesthetic (physical) understanding of elements of dance: Time, Space and Energy Fluency with elements of dance in creation, development and refinement of movement sequences. II. Form and Structure: Use of tools as compositional device. Student demonstrates: Skill in creating short movement sequences with defined beginnings, middles and ends. (Phrase sensibilities) Skill in creating longer movement phrases through manipulating movement materials Skill with integrating and using sound/music effectively in choreography Facility with basic choreographic forms and structuring devices (ABA, motif development and non-linear development). III. Development of artistic voice. Student demonstrates: Command of choreographic devices Facility with form and structure in development of idea. Ability to create solo or group choreography with clear thematic idea and development. Ability to develop concept for choreographic work and enlists appropriate choreographic tools to support the idea IV. Communication and Professionalism. Student demonstrates: Organizational skill necessary to communicate and coordinate effectively

I. Kinesthetic Competence. Student demonstrates: Ability to move with physical clarity and specificity including body articulation and coordination. To demonstrate comprehension of historical, cultural, anatomical, and pedagogic dimensions of dance, student will: Enlist dance knowledge accurately to support a position, clarify a perspective or elaborate a thesis. Write clearly and cogently utilizing appropriate support materials to support a perspective or point of view. (as seen in student midterm evaluations) Speak clearly, in an organized manner that utilizes appropriate support materials to support a perspective or point of view. Design and construct materials that are anatomically and pedagogically sound.

II. To demonstrate utilization of critical thinking skills and creative problem

solving evincing comprehension and application of dance knowledge, student will: Enlist dance knowledge effectively in multiple arenas to approach problem solving.
