C. With RST, sew the right Lantern border to the right side of the quilt center. Press seam toward the quilt center. D. With RST, sew the left Lantern border to the left side of the quilt center. Press seam toward the quilt center.

E. All the remaining border strips are stitched to the left & right edges and then stitched to the top & bottom.

See entire quilt diagram on next page for border placement.

Before cutting or attaching any borders it is important to take accurate measurements.

For all right and left borders : measure directly through the middle of the quilt, from top to bottom, and use that measurement to cut the border lengths. Pin to fit and stitch them on. This prevents “wavy” borders .

Next, for all top and bottom borders: Measure directly through the middle of the quilt from side to side, and use that measurement to cut the border lengths. Pin to fit, before sewing.

Press each border as it is added , being careful not to stretch your fabric. All seams should be pressed toward the outer edges.

Do a final pressing of the entire quilt after stitching. Layer your backing Fabric #120-5141, batting of choice and quilt top . Quilt as you like. Fold the 2 ½” binding strip Fabric #120-5151, RST along its length. Machine stitch the raw edge of the binding to the raw edge of quilt sandwich and finish in your favorite method. TIP: Don’t forget to create a special label for the back of your quilt. I like to design mine on the computer, adding special pictures or designs to make it unique. Printing is easy if you first press freezer paper to the back of the label fabric before feeding into your printer. Peel off the paper, iron to set the ink permanently and then hand sew it to your quilt.
