MARTIN HEALTH SYSTEM About Us At Martin Health System we have developed our Beautiful Beginnings Program so you will have the most rewarding and memorable birth experience possible. Our experienced physicians, nurse-midwives, nurses and ancillary staff are all highly experienced and caring. They are dedicated to making this the Beautiful Beginning of a lifetime. Our Rooms Our facilities have labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) rooms and surgical suites for Cesarean births. Our mother-baby units have private rooms for you and your family after the baby arrives. Mothers are encouraged to keep their new infants with them in order to provide a safe environment for learning to care for your infant and involving the family in the new arrival’s care. Our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Martin Medical Center and Tradition Medical Center each has a Level II Special Care Nursery should your baby have special needs after birth. If any special need arises for your baby, we are prepared to provide specialized medical attention with our neonatologists and staff, who are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our experts will do everything possible to assist your baby, and to keep you informed of your baby’s progress every step along the way. Our Home Visit Program We want to make sure that your positive birth experience continues during your initial days at home. One of our nurses, working under the direction of your pediatrician and obstetrician or midwife, will come to your home after the birth to check on you and your baby. They will answer any questions you may have about caring for yourself and baby, including baby’s bath, feeding, sterilization techniques and postnatal changes.

How Our Programs Work Pre-Admission We highly recommend that you pre-register for admission to the hospital before your 28th week of pregnancy. By pre-registering, your admission to the hospital on the birth day will be much smoother. Call 772.223.5905 to pre-register for hospital admission. Tours When you call to pre-register, make an appointment to tour the facility you will be deliverying at. We provide group tours to all interested parents-to-be on an appointment basis. You will be escorted on a tour of the unit by one of our nurses. The tour includes: • Hospital access • Labor-delivery-recovery rooms • OB admitting area • Neonatal intensive care nursery • Mother-baby unit During the tour and orientation to our facility, we will familiarize you with the admitting procedures, safety and security procedures, and childbirth education classes, and we will initiate plans for your discharge home, including a home visit from our home health staff. Childbirth Classes Our childbirth classes can help you and your partner prepare for the birth, help prepare siblings for the new arrival, give you information about breastfeeding, teach family members how to care for the newborn, teach emergency care skills, or just refresh moms and partners who are already experienced. We recommend that you wait until your fifth month of pregnancy before registering for classes. Classes are provided at Martin Medical Center and Tradition Medical Center, please be sure to specify location when you are making your appointment. You can register for these classes (descriptions follow) using the form at the back of this booklet, by calling 772.223.5905, or on our web site at martinhealth.org/maternity.
