Programme Type INTEC offers three types of programmes, namely National Qualifications, Provider Programmes, and Agent Programmes: National Qualifications are credit bearing qualifications registered on the NQF and accredited by a Quality Assurance Body. Provider Programmes are unique to INTEC and are designed to increase and enhance your skills and knowledge within your chosen field. Agent Programmes are programmes and qualifications for which INTEC offers tuition, but where INTEC does not issue the final certificate (the agent body issues the final certificate). Child Day Care

The Child Day Care Certificate is designed for people who want to work with babies and very young children aged 3 months to 3 years. Today more and more mothers are finding it necessary to work full-time to support their families. Consequently there is a huge demand for caregivers to look after young children whilst their parents are at work.

Programme Type The Child Day Care programme is a Provider Programme.

Entrance Requirements Grade 10 (Std. 8). Should you not meet the minimum entrance requirements and have 3 years relevant work experience, please contact the nearest INTEC branch to apply for possible access.

Course Content • Starting a Day Care Centre • The Physical Environment • Child Development • Administration • Health, Safety and Nutrition What will I achieve? Besides acquiring the skills you need to work effectively as a Child Caregiver, this course will give you invaluable insight into the growth and development of your own children and children around you.

Assessment You are required to complete 10 formative assignments, which you should send to the College for marking.

Awards On successful completion of this course you will receive your INTEC Certificate in Child Day Care.

National Certificate: Early Childhood Development NQF Level 4. ID No.: 23116

The National Certificate in Early Childhood Development (ECD) has been designed for people who would like to work with children from the ages of 3 to 6 years. This course is aimed at all those who are already working and need to up-skill or would like to work in an Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre as well as people wanting to start their own centre.

Programme Type The Early Childhood Development NQF Level 4 programme is a National Qualification. ID No.: 23116

Accreditation INTEC has received full ETDP Accreditation for the National Certificate in Early Childhood Development. Upon enrolment your learner details are loaded on to the SETA database. Once you submit your portfolios and are found to be competent, your records are updated to the NLRD (National Learner Record Database). When your 120 credits are loaded onto the NLRD, you will receive a Certified Certificate from the ETDP SETA in addition to your INTEC Certificate.

Entrance Requirements We strongly recommend that you have an English language skill in reading and writing equivalent to Grade 10 (Std. 8). Should you have Grade 12 English & Mathematics, you will be exempted from your Fundamentals.

Pre-school Preparation and Development Certificate

Today’s economic climate dictates that both parents and single parents work full-time. They leave their children in the care of well-trained staff. Once you have completed this course, you will be able to work in a Child Day Care facility.

Programme Type The Pre-school Preparation and Development programme is a Provider Programme.

Entrance Requirements Grade 12 (Std. 10). It will be to your advantage if you have completed INTEC’s National Cerificate in Early Childhood Development.

Course Duration You should be able to complete this course within 18 months.

What will I achieve?

Once you have completed this course, you will be able to manage or work in a Child Day Care Centre.

Computers for Young Learners

Option 1: Jump-start for toddlers This course was created by educational experts to stimulate growing minds and spark eager imaginations. The course also includes friendly animal playmates, engaging activities and fun music.

Option 2: Jump-start for pre-school Experts have identified seven styles of learning. Each All Star character will encourage the child to explore a different way of understanding concepts.

Course Content • How to choose a suitable computer for your centre. • The ways that children can benefit from using computers. • How to analyse certain software packages and decide if they are educational or appropriate for certain age groups.

OPTIONAL MODULES

Child Psychology

Explore one of the most interesting areas of psychology theory – Child Development. In this specialised course you’ll gain insight into the child’s physical, emotional and intellectual development from conception through to adolescence. With this knowledge you’ll begin to better understand yourself and the children around you. Discover the factors that affect us all in those crucial early developmental years when our personalities are formed. Also learn how to create a healthy and stimulating environment for a child’s development. This is an excellent course for anyone with children of their own or for someone who works with children.

Course Content The Infant: The miracle of prenatal development and the fascinating early years when children first discover the world. The Pre-school Child: A time of rapid changes in the child’s body and personality when cognition, imagination and language develop and the child begins to relate socially. Students will learn how to support the child’s development during these vital years.

The School-age Child: Changing physical characteristics and the appearance of new skills; meeting the challenge of more complex interpersonal relationships.

The Adolescent: A time of dramatic physical change and the phase of the often difficult search for identity and self-direction; changing relationships with peers and parents. An Overview of Human Life and Growth: A brief overview of the stages of human life from adolescence to death.

Children’s Party Planning Certificate

Bring joy to little ones whilst earning a living for yourself! It’s the highlight of every child’s year: their birthday party. But in today’s rushed world, parents don’t always have the time or resources to plan the perfect children’s party. For the very first time, a course has been developed to teach you the finer details of party planning, from putting together the theme to meeting the budget. And with course material developed by Lynn Bechus, with over 30 years experience in children’s party planning, you will soon be able to offer your services to parents, daycare centres or even corporates!

You will learn about: •

a typical workday of the party planner;



the basics in Birthday Party Planning, in other words, how to get started and how to get paid; and

• how to attract clients and market your skills.

You will also learn how to: • • •

create décor masterpieces from scraps of materials; conduct first-time interviews; put together a theme for a birthday party; and • create a budget.
