REGISTRATION PROCESS 

    

Don’t wait until the last minute to register! If there are not enough registrations by one week prior to start date the program may be cancelled. If a program must be cancelled registrants will be notified by telephone approximately 2 days before a program start date. Participants will receive a full refund for classes we cancel. Complete registration form(s). Separate registration forms and payments are required for: Parks & Rec., Community Pool and Sport Camps. Online registration is not yet available for Sport Camps. MAIL-IN: Parks & Rec, Therapeutic, and Sport Camp registrations: 559 S. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 (begins 5/19) Community Pool registrations: 520 S. Main St., Cheshire, CT 06410 (begin 5/19) IN-PERSON: Hours vary by location. Please check online or call for office hours. ONLINE: Beginning May 19 online registration is available for most Parks & Rec, Therapeutic and Pool Programs. You will be emailed a receipt upon registration. Be sure your current email address is printed clearly on your registration.

PAYMENT POLICY    

Registration forms must be accompanied with full payment in order to be processed. The Parks and Rec. Dept. and Community Pool accept cash, checks, Master Card, Visa and Discover Card. Sport Camps accept cash and checks only and do not have online registration. See individual registration forms for details on whom to make your checks payable.

NON-RESIDENT POLICY Registration for nonresidents will be accepted for most programs beginning Tuesday, May 27 th with an additional $10 fee. Residents are defined as those persons domiciled on a permanent basis in the Town of Cheshire and individual property owners of real property (non-motor vehicle). Some programs are subject to additional restrictions.

REFUND POLICY

 Full refunds will be given only if a recreation program is cancelled due to lack of registration.  Refund for recreation programs minus a $15 administration fee will be given if notification is received one week prior to the start of the program and your vacancy is filled. All refund requests must be in writing.  Once a program begins no refunds will be given.  Any exceptions from the above policy will only be considered after the Director reviews your written request.  For Parks & Rec. summer camps, cancellation must be received two weeks prior to the session. There will be a $15 per child per session administration fee.  Children removed from a program or camp for discipline problems will not receive a refund.

TRANSFER POLICY Transfers must be in writing with a transfer form two weeks in advance. The transfer fee is $15 for one person and $5 for each additional family member. A transfer form may be obtained from the Parks and Recreation office.

 Parents must read the camp policies online or in the Parks & Rec. office before signing a child up for a Summer Camp.  Space permitting, late registrations will be accepted until noon on Fri. before the start of a session with a late fee.

POOL POLICIES  

Program fees are based on both residency and pool pass status. Prices in the brochure are in the following order: Resident Pass Holder / Resident without a Pass / Nonresident Pass Holder / Nonresident without a Pass Any person signing up for a swim lesson for the first time MUST have a screening so they may be placed in the appropriate level. Call the pool to schedule a screening. You cannot register without a screening.

Every effort has been made to prepare this brochure as accurately as possible. Nonetheless, errors may make it to print. Circumstances may require that adjustments be made to program fees, schedules, etc. We reserve the right to make such changes. Cheshire Parks & Recreation apologizes for any inconveniences these errors or adjustments may cause. TODDLER WITH PARENT & PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS All classes listed below are held at the Youth Center. Child must attend classes marked with a * with a parent/caregiver. These classes will help your child's focused listening and attention skills, beat development, tonal awareness and singing voice in a fun, interactive group setting. A joy to behold! Delight the senses and discover the joy of combining art and play with your child. Paint and other materials will be used to explore the cause and effect of color, shape and textures on paper. Activities involving blending, moving, combining, creating and changing individual projects will develop self expression and creativity. Children will also play with clay and dough; this play is a fun way to develop fine motor skills. Clay, dough and various tools will be available for creating and recreating shapes and designs in a combination of open-ended creative time and theme-directed projects. Smock needed. PRESCHOOL & SCHOOL AGE PROGRAMS All classes listed below are held at the Youth Center unless otherwise noted. Miniatures Grades 1-6 Mon 10:00a-12:00p 7/7-8/11 (6 wk) Fee: $65 Code: 42180A Many different projects will be created in miniature using a combination of craft materials, recyclables and found objects. The projects will conclude with an ongoing project involving creating a single or multi-room dwelling or scene. There will be basic instructions, followed by lots of encouragement to use imaginations to make each project unique! Stay with Joan Shackford for the day with Lunch Bunch & Puppets! Lunch Bunch Grades 1-6 Mon 12:00-1:00p 7/7-8/11 (6 wk) Fee: $30 Code: 42181A For participants in Miniatures and Puppeteers who want to have an “artful” day. Participants will eat lunch and enjoy supervised play for the hour between Miniatures and Puppeteers. Parents must pack lunch with ice packs. Learn about the different types of puppets and how to work them, then create your character, props and stage set. P-REX DAYS P-Rex Days meet at the Youth Center on most school holidays & vacations and are open to children in grades K thru 6. Weather permitting the campers will walk across the street to the fields at Bartlem and the Kids in Motion Playground. Please read the P-Rex policies online before registering for the program. More details about the schedule including Special Guests and Trips is available in the office and on our website and will be emailed when you register. First child pays full price siblings receive discount of $3.50/day when attending same day. A $5 per child per day late fee applies to all registrations received within the week prior to the start of the program. YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS All lessons will be held at the Youth Center Tennis Courts. Court Cougars: (5-7 yr) Using shorter nets, 21” rackets, and foam tennis balls (all provided), Children will have fun and achieve success during their first exposure to tennis. Advanced Cougars: (5-7 yr) For those who have already taken Court Cougars. Standard size nets will be used to learn the basics. Beginners: (8-14 yr) For those who have little or no tennis experience. This course provides a fun atmosphere while teaching the basics. Advanced Beginners: (8-14 yr) For those who have taken the Beginners Class. Basic strokes will be covered along with the introduction of advanced strokes. Intermediate: (10-16 yr) For those who have a command of the basic forehand, backhand and serve and wish to learn more advanced strokes, techniques and game strategies. Best for those who are able to sustain a rally for more than 5 strokes.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAMS Please keep in mind that participants must be able to communicate and handle all toileting and feeding needs independently. If your child requires 1:1 supervision at school, help toileting, or is a “runner” please provide your own assistant to attend the program with your child. All campers are asked to bring a bathing suit, towel, sneakers, water bottles, and sunscreen. Medication can be administered by camp staff or the camp nurse. Staff will also provide physical support with the activities as needed. The camp will be a safe environment for children to enjoy a traditional summer camp experience. Campers will be bused from Summer School to Bartlem Park. An open house will held on June 11 th from 6:30-7:30pm at the Youth Center so campers and parents can meet new staff and have all their questions answered. TR Teen Camp 15-21 yrs 11:00am-3:30pm Code: 45673 A, B, C, D Bartlem Park New this year - FOUR weeks of Teen Camp!! This camp will be separate from the TR Youth Camp with two staff and located at Bartlem Park and surrounding venues. Bring your dog, a training collar and a 6-foot web, leather or rawhide lead to class. Write your dog’s name, breed and age on the registration form under “Special Information”. Enjoy weekly tennis with other intermediate and advanced female tennis players (suggested level player 3.0 and above). One player will be designated to bring an unopened can of tennis balls each week. A schedule will be emailed to all participants; clearly print your email address on your registration. MIXVILLE PARKING PASSES Mixville Park will be open to the public on a daily basis from 7:00 AM to dusk. From Monday to Friday each week there are no lifeguards on duty and it will be available for swimming on a “Swim at Your Own Risk” basis only. Lifeguards will be on duty on Saturdays & Sundays 10:00AM to 4:00PM. Park Rangers will be on duty every day to enforce park rules, oversee picnic rentals and handle general maintenance needs of the facility. From May, 24, 2014 through September 1, 2014 a parking fee will be in effect. The parking rates will be as follows: Seasonal Pass Resident $40 Non-Resident $120 Daily Pass Resident $5 Non-Resident $10 Seasonal Passes must be displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle as they enter Mixville Park and remain on the dashboard during the visit. Only one vehicle listed on the pass can be used on any given day to enter the park. Daily passes will be collected at the gate at Mixville. To Purchase a Seasonal Pass: Bring a valid Connecticut Driver’s License and a copy of the car registration for all vehicles to be listed on the pass to the Parks & Recreation Department Office Monday thru Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00PM.
