It’s that time of the year, when all of us need to stop and think of those people who made us capable of achieving what we have achieved and are continuing to achieve. They held our hands as we stumbled through mixed up alphabets and confusing numbers. The Chinese have a wonderful way of summing up their contribution in our life. If you are planning for a year, sow rice; if you are planning for a decade, plant trees; if you are planning for a lifetime, educate people. I am sure you Readers by now would have guessed whom I am speaking about. Right! About our Teachers who have given us the best years of their life, to get the best out of us. In India, September 5 is celebrated as Teachers' day as a tribute to Teachers. Incidentally, it also happens to be the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, President of India. In fact it was his suggestion that the day be celebrated as Teachers’ Day. Thank you Teachers for making us what we are.

Elephant head. Rotund belly. A lotus seat. Gentle, smiling eyes and the humble mouse as vehicle. Put the five things together and you get the image of India’s most beloved deity Sri Ganesha. The Ganesh Chaturthi Festival (also known as Ganesh Utsav) is a lively festival that celebrates his birthday.

is made of clay and touched up in bright EDITOR - LOGUE colours. The artisans work day and night for months on end, to ensure that every home gets its own idol for the festival. During the festival, the idol is either placed on raised platforms at home or put up in elaborate tents or pandals for the public to see.

He is one Hindu god that has followers across religions. Simply because he is considered the giver of success, no venture, whether in business, education or arts, commences without the worship of Ganesha.

Cries of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’ rent the air as thousands join colourful processions on the day of the immersion. The idols are paraded through crowded streets before being immersed in a river or sea, symbolising the return of the deity to his abode in Kailasha. The singing and the dancing on the streets continue into the early hours of the morning as worshippers enjoy the last day of the festival to the fullest.

Hindu mythology says the Elephant God is the son of Shiva and Parvati, and the story behind how he got the head of the giant beast is quite interesting. It is said that Shiva had severed the head of his son in a fit of rage, following which a grief-stricken Parvati pleaded with her husband to bring Ganesha back to life. Shiva’s troops went out in search of a ‘head’, as per instructions, and came back with that of an elephant. Thus the head of the elephant was fused with the body of a human, leading to the rebirth of Ganesha. It is the birth anniversary of Ganesha that leads to one of the most colourful celebrations in India. Ganesh Chaturthi is perhaps the one festival that breaks down all social barriers. From popular Bollywood stars to the humble street food vendor, everyone comes out to join the celebrations. Every posh bungalow, every street corner, every park, every housing society has its own Ganesha idol, with a procession of worshippers singing paeans to the deity.

Each and every creature has its own language to express its feelings, needs, anger and love. If you know how to use your language, through it, you could earn friendship, Love and of-course enemies too. In this world, there exist several Human race, culture and for each, they have their own language for their communications. If you question them, each will say My Language is the best. Apparently, each one is true. For me, my language is one of the beautiful and adorable one. If you were born dumb, then you could understand how much your language mean to you. I was brought up in an ordinary family, were my Dad busy in his official works and my Mom in her household works. There was no one who could dedicate their time to teach neither my subjects nor my Language Tamil. Since, I had my schoolings via Matriculation, When I read Tamil, I remember my sister mock at me. Until my Tenth grade, there was no improvement and suddenly, things changed. I was little attracted towards Tamil and its new words just for writing love poems. Soon I understood, what a valuable weapon I have in my mouth. Tough to learn but sounds beautiful when pronounced by right lips. There are several Books, Epics, and Novels, which will teach you the value of Tamil. It is not necessary that you should be a Bachelor or a Master in Tamil literature to learn it, but compassion is more than enough. Early days, Bharathiyar and several freedom fighters opt to run Newspapers, as they were well aware that through writings, tactically using their language, they could initiate a fire for freedom. That was True. My huge concern now is, whomever I meet, most of them are proud about being well versed in English but stammer in Tamil. A Malayali gives priority to his language, Japanese does the same. Why we Tamils failed in our Mother Tongue. It is not important that we are skilled in English but it is a shame that we are ignoring Tamil. Teach your Children your own language first. Make them understand the value of it. Suggest them to read good books. All other languages, we know are just tools, but our own language is our strength. Finally, My humble request is, in future, please don't make my language to be searched. Credits - Bala

2. RacerBack vest scarft • Fold your scarf in half. • Tie one folded corner with one end corner • Drape it around your neck. Now, you have a racerback vest. Amazing, isn't it?

3. Scarf to Shawl • Put the scarf around you shoulders with its free ends at the back. • Tie a loose knot at the back with the two ends and cover it with scarf. • Now adjust the shawl from the front.
