WELCOME OUR VISION
“TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE.” OUR MISSION The Chelsea Film Festival is an international film festival, enlightening the work of emerging filmmakers, producers and actors. It offers a wide range of films, such as documentaries and feature-lengths, focusing on the theme of “Global Issues”. It empowers the work of risk-taking storytellers and remains committed to its mission to discover and develop independent artists and audiences around the world. The Chelsea Film Festival is an event consisting of four days of screenings of independent shorts, feature-lengths and documentaries from emerging directors. In between sessions, we will be hosting Q&A sessions and related events such as an industry mixer for professionals.
Dear Friends, We are very excited to open the Fourth Edition of the Chelsea Film Festival, with a brand new program that will offer a French Caribbean Movie Spotlight, as well as Virtual Reality experiences and films featuring the lives of children in various emerging countries (Hong Kong, Pakistan, Costa Rica, etc.). As “The Youth is the Hope of our Future”, we must educate ourselves to make a change today. We hope to raise awareness throughout the weekend and have our message resonate beyond the City of New York. This year showcases 90 films from 24 different countries (12 World, 33 US, and 34 New York Premieres). We are honored to have the support of our Educational Partner: The Fashion Institute of Technology. In conjunction with FIT, we will be presenting the 2nd edition of the Reel Magic Hour® Program, a professional industry panel series. Experts in the entertainment business will share their experiences and offer insights to emerging filmmakers. A Women in Tech and Diversity Panel will be one of the highlights at this year’s Festival. Meet tomorrow’s visionaries today! INGRID & SONIA JEAN-BAPTISTE 3

Julie Menin is Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment which is composed of the Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcast, the nation’s first film commission, and of NYC Media, the official television and radio network for the City of New York. The Office of Media and Entertainment supports the City’s $8.7 billion film and television industry, a sector that contributes over 130,000 jobs to the City’s economy. Prior to her current appointment, she was Commissioner of the Department of Consumer Affairs where she successfully increased restitution for consumers, reduced fines on small businesses, and administered NYC’s Paid Sick Leave Law. For two decades, Commissioner Menin has been a leading figure in the City’s economic development sector, first, as the founder of Wall Street Rising in the wake of 9/11 and then, as the longest serving chair of Community Board 1. Menin practiced regulatory law at the law firm Wiley, Rein & Fielding in Washington, D.C., was Senior Regulatory Counsel at Colgate-Palmolive in NY and also owned a 100 person business which she founded in Lower Manhattan. She previously hosted and co-produced a news show on NBC local cable and has been the recipient of numerous awards including the Citizen’s Union Public Service Award, City and State’s 40 Under 40 and the League of Conservation Voters Community Service Award among others. ROOTED IN PEACE
CINEPOLIS CHELSEA | 6:45PM SATURDAY, OCTOBER 15 81 MIN | DOCUMENTARY | UNITED STATES | 2016 NY PREMIERE by Greg Reitman PLAYING WITH HEAR ME SYNOPSIS: ROOTED in PEACE challenges viewers to examine their values as Americans and human beings. Today we are at war within ourselves, with our environment, and with the world. Director and award-winning filmmaker Greg Reitman invites viewers on a film journey to take notice of the world we live in, proactively seek ways to find personal and ecological peace, and stop the cycle of violence. The film relies not only on memoir, but also interviews with such luminaries and activists as Deepak Chopra, music legends Donovan, Mike Love, and Pete Seeger, film director David Lynch, Noble Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire, media mogul Ted Turner, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, green architect William McDonough, neuroscientist Dan Siegel and many others. Reitman learns from all of them, and heeds Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s words, that if the forest is to be green, every tree must be green; if there’s going to be Peace on earth, then everybody needs to experience that quality of Peace within themselves. And so in asking viewers to do the same, Reitman poses the basic question: How do we want to live? Reitman’s journey is an example of transformation — how one person can learn to make the necessary changes to enjoy a better life — and in so doing inspire others to want to improve their own lives, and society as a whole.
