Charity Wine Auction 2010

Dear guests, I would like to welcome you to the Charity Wine Auction 2010 and at the same time I wish to thank all of you who have contributed to this auction – the companies, the producers and distributors of wine as well as our volunteers. By the means of financial support and their own activities SOCIA Foundation wants to influence changes of social system to the benefit of the most endangered social groups in the country. Since 2002 our activities have provided financial support for other subjects at the amount of 5 500 000 EUR – and thus we supported 500 entities (Support for families, Support for organizations). We also carried out our own projects (Modelling social network, Strengthening the social NGOs). Foundation’s assets contribute to our financial independence and stability. SOCIA foundation owns an endowment, financial reserve and real property at the amount of 550 000 EUR. Out of the earnings of the invested assets we can gain independent financial means – this way we gained 18 500 EUR in 2009, the net gain was 4,2 %. The means we obtain this way can be used for the direct support of projects without pointless bureaucracy. Therefore the earnings from charity wine auction should be invested to increase the foundation’s assets. We have special promise that American Ch. S. Mott Foundation will double the sum. Vladislav Matej – executive director of SOCIA Foundation

Bumasti - Traminer | 2009 Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach Tasting Notes: Originally Tramín červený, an ancient sort of wine grape. It provides a very tasty and desired drink full of residual sugar. Tramín is well-known for its flower-fruit aroma and typically lower content of acids which, however, does not have to hold true under the Little Carpathians.

Muskatsilvaner - Sauvignon | 2009 Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach Tasting Notes: Extractive wine with primary – grape bouquet, ripe pear or peach typically blends through the whole body of the raisin-like grapes and their golden liquid.

Brugler - Neuburg | 2009   Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach Tasting Notes: Neuburg gives a strong, sharp, almost mineral, type of wine. Its stony base charges it with persistency, so it resembles a good Sauvignon and is a very good quality and desired attribute wine. Beautiful bouquet.

Limbacher Rosling | 2008 Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach

Frankovka modrá | 2007 | selected grapes Producer: Miloš Máťuš Country of origin: Slovakia, Little Carpathian Appelation, Rača Tasting notes: Characteristics: dark ruby colour, smooth berry fragrance. The flavour is full, fresh, and underlined with a little tartness, which creates a long-lasting fruity aftertaste. Due to its high nutritional, biological and sensational value resulting from rich Rača soils, Frankovka modrá is a very good addition to parties, where it is served with cheese, dry meat, game, beef, or a slice of grape rolls.

Wine-growing and wine-making of Miloš Máťuš The wine-growing and wine-making of Miloš Máťuš continues a family tradition that has deep historical roots in Rača. There are about 12 hectares of vineyard to be taken care of. The grapes are grown using above-standard growing services. The grapes are left to mature to full ripeness and then mostly attribute or quality wines are made of them. Predominantly classical technology is used, with the exception of controlled fermentation in the case of white wine. After considerate processing the wines mature in rustless tanks, oak barrels or barrik barrels. The wines are exported to the market without chemical stabilization and filtration, so the wine has the potential for maturing even in the bottle and if stored well, some kinds of wine can continue maturing for several years. Gran Shiraz | 2004 Producer: Las Moras Country of origin: Argentina Tasting notes: A wine with a deep red/purple color; complex aromas with notes of red fruit and chocolate. Full-bodied palate with a creamy mouth-feel and a long lingering aftertaste. The 18 months on French oak add complexity and style to this superb blend. The wine matches perfectly to red meats, spicy sauces and cheese, or stands beautifully on its own.

04 |

Sauvignon | 2008 | grape selection Country of origin: Slovakia, Little-Carpathian Appellation Tasting Notes: Beautiful, fine, fresh aroma of vineyard peaches. The taste is full, round, juicy, with a long fruity finish of peeled peaches. Sauvignon is a variety with a specific bouquet and taste although it belongs to the group of Burgundy varieties. We recommend it to go with white meat and mild sauces, icings, salmon-like fish, fine pork, pasta, pizza.

Víno Matyšák

JANOUŠEK

A genuine family company that has been part of Slovak wine-production since 1989. Using only core capital, employing the wine-making traditions of our ancestors, allied to honest hard, work and perseverance, have made the Matyšák company one of the prominent wine producers in Slovak Republic. The Matyšák Company belongs to the unofficial 7 wine-making princes that are qualitative leaders in wine-making in Slovakia. The name Matyšák can be found in the second issue of “Who’s Who in the Slovak Republic. Through all of its activities the company supports the improvement in the culture of wine production in Slovakia, and also represents the potential of our people in this field abroad,. Our domestic and European motto is: „To Gain and keep the trust of domestic as well as foreign clients – the present as well as the future – by quality alone“. In 2005 a stylish Hotel Matyšák*** was opened in Pražská street in Bratislava. The hotel has an 80 bed capacity and is stylish especially because of the wine restaurant with its national cuisine. This restaurant is directly connected to an archive cellar (ANNO 1904) which is able to store about 45 thousand bottles of archive wine from our own production dating back to 1994, in the 40-metrelong space.

There are those who make the wine. There are those who drink it. And finally there are those – fewer of them – who love the wine. White, pink or red. Fresh, impulsive and magnetizing. Fine, aromatic, intoxicating the senses. The senses of men and women who know what is above-average and extraordinary. The Janoušek Company wines are just like that and they belong among the best what we have here in Slovakia. Many wines by the Janoušek company can be found in the National Salon of Wines in Pezinok (100 best wines in the Slovak Republic), in the Little-Carpathian Hall of Fame in Limbach, in the top gastronomic outlets, vinotheques and private archives. Wine-growing – wine-making

SKOVAJSA

VINO DEI VINI EBAC Ltd. was founded in 1995 and since 2006 the company has run its own vinotheque with probably one of the largest selections of wine in Slovakia as a classical store where instead of getting lost in hundreds of options you will be presented with an offer of carefully chosen wines where every bottle guarantees good wine. Professional and friendly staff are always ready to talk to you about what you like, what you dream about in a bottle of wine. In 2009 a copyright company online shop www. vinodeivini.sk was launched. The priority of our company is to make sure that the wines offered in our shop always carry the stamp of quality. We consider it significant that most of the wines we offer cost less than 20 Euros. High quality and financial accessibility are the most substantial aspects that provide a rich and fulfilling wine experience for each of our customers.

Our family company, Skovajsa, started in 1991 as winegrowing business. We have continued the tradition of our grandparents, interrupted only by the communist regime, the vineyards being returned to us after the restitution.. Now we grow the wine in Pezinok and in Limbach using 5 hectares of vineyard, and we process only our own wine. We make about 25 000 – 30 000 litres of wine per year. We started making a small amount of wine, and over a number of years we have developed our wine-making skills. As young producers we abandoned the classical production methods and opted for an efficient wine processing method, with reduced technology that enables us to provide the market with modern, fresh wines with an expressive variety of aromas. The variety is created by 5 white wines and 4 red wines. We sell the wine from our own cellar and wine shops all around Slovakia. Degustation events are available for smaller groups (up to 25 people) in the cellar itself which is located in a typical, closed farm yard in Pezinok.

We are a modern wine-making company but we follow the hundred-year-old tradition of our region. You can recognize our vineyard easily. The shapely lines of grapevines are overlooked by a charming little tower that has served as a viewing-tower for a long time. It dominates the panorama of the vineyards and has become a symbol of good Slovak wine. For a wine-grower the soil is more than just a symbol of fertility. The alpha and omega of quality wine is the care you give to the soil, the daily labour undertaken with love and patience. The result is wine that will satisfy even the most demanding connoisseur. A scenic vineyard with a modern building in its midst is the view that awaits the visitors to Terra Parna. We are proud of our history and we are glad that we have managed to intertwine it with the most modern architecture and and the most recent of technologies. These are the signposts to a good wine.

Country of origin: Slovakia, Little Carpathian Appelation, Trnavské vršky Tasting notes: Dark, rich red-ruby colour shows that even the low harvest temperatures did not negatively influence its intensity. Those who like the taste of walnut still in its mildly bitter skin will be surprised by the typical smell of young nuts in the wine. A slightly oxidative tone does not break the harmony of overripe blueberries and black currants. Tasting this wine promises an unforgettable experience full of surprises: pleasant sweet taste with a finish of overripe berries that will after a while reveal a touch of chocolate and black coffee.

Producer: Vinosia Country of origin: Italy, Campania Aging: Hand-picked at the end of October and beginning of November, 12 days of maceration and maturing for 5 years in French oak. Tasting notes: Dark-purple colour with a lush aroma of black fruit, blackcurrants, plums, coffee, cloves, liquorice, vanilla and tar with a bit of aniseed. Full, concentrated body with silky tannins and robust and long persistency. Beautiful medium.

ELESKO

VÍNO HACAJ The wine-making roots of the Hacaj family go back as far as the first half of the 19th century. After the vineyards were returned to the family at the beginning of 90s, the fourth and fifth generations of the Hacaj family founded their own company. HACAJ company focuses mostly on producing variety wines with attributes. In processing the grapes they use old, traditional methods based on the most efficient treatment of the grapes, complemented by the most modern scientific knowledge and research in the field of winemaking. The specialty of HACAJ company is sparkling wines made using the classical method of secondary fermentation directly inside the bottles. All technological operations are done by hand. A unique demonstration of this most difficult winemaking technology can be seen in the attractive space of the over 300 year old cellar that is a cultural and historical sight of the town.

The Elesko Company has been involved in wine-growing and wine-making in the LittleCarpathian and Tokaj area, making their wine exclusively from their own vines. They organized the building of a modern wine-making complex in Modra, where you can also find a restaurant and a gallery of modern art. They conduct their vine-growing and wine-making activties also in Russial. The vineyards of the company are part of a system of integrated protection – the grape is grown and protected with the minimum of chemicals, and with intense use of natural elements. Wine-growing and wine-making of Miloš Máťuš

A.D. 1886 Weinbau Malatschek

The wine-growing and wine-making of Miloš Máťuš continues a family tradition that has deep historical roots in Rača.

In the wine-growing and wine-making company Malatschek, we are maintaining a 350 year old family tradition. We treat the legacy of our forefathers respectfully. Therefore we focus on the production of traditional Little Carpathian varieties. In growing the wine, however, we also make use of the most recent knowledge. We belong to those wine-making craftsmen who are uncompromising about the quality of their wine. Our purpose is sustainable development and production that is environment-friendly. We do not use any artificial, foreign substances during fermentation. For the future also we are ready to do all that we can to maintain the high quality and to provide our customers with the maximum pleasure of a completely natural product. Rothgipfler | Červenošpičiak | 2009 Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach Tasting Notes: Fabulous natural blend of Tramín and Veltlín červený, the favourite of our German forefathers – the wine-growers from Pressburg and the villages surrounding it. The fruity Červenošpiciak – a full alcoholic drink in which the higher acids are balanced with the residual sugar – that is the promise of a valuable experience and archive value. Exotic spices, a natural pear-like aroma in harmony with almonds, will enthrall you at the point where other wines might be losing their breath.

BlankAndré | cuvée | 2006 | late harvest Country of origin: Slovakia, Little-Carpathian Appellation Tasting Notes: The dominance of Rulandské biele complemented by Rizling rýnsky. The wine was made using classical Central European technology that provides uniqueness, nostalgia and conservatism which predetermine it for special occasions. A bold spicy aroma with ripe exotic fruit. The taste is rich, fine, fruity, with moderate tones of vanilla. The finish is long, full, with mild cinnamon undertone. Best served at a temperature of 12 – 13 °C Awards: GM - VITIS AUREA Modra 2008, SM - Cuvée Ostrava 2008 – the second best dry cuveé, Hall of Fame of the Little-Carpathian Wines

Limberger | Červená Frankovka | 2009 Country of origin: Little-Carpathian Appellation, Limbach Tasting Notes: Wine of a dark-ruby colour with higher extract and alcohol content. A mild bitterness and acidity support the harmony of a very pleasant fruity vintage. At the time of full maturity the soil minerals add to the Frankovka tones of sweet berries, raspberries, currents or cherries. We use it to wash down „heavy” red meats and cheeses.

FrankAndré | cuvée | 2006 | grape selection Country of origin: Slovakia, Little-Carpathian Appellation Tasting Notes: The dominant part of this cuvée is Frankovka modrá complemented by André. Beautiful fruity aroma with juicy berries. Full, fine fruity taste with long finish bringing out tones of milk chocolate and fruit. Blue Portugal | 2007

Frankovka modrá | 2008 | late harvest

Country of origin: Slovakia, Little-Carpathian Appelation, Trnavské vršky Tasting notes: The colour is not typical in the sense of current standards. It is deep, dark, resembling an overripe cherry. At the edge of the glass with a gentle shade of orange. Mildly fruity aroma with an unobtrusive tone of vanilla and mixture of small berries and overripe plums. Lovers of light wood that is not expressive (although the wine went through maturing in big wooden and barrique barrels) will definitely be satisfied. The wine-maker decided to make the fruit stand out. It is harmonic, velvety smooth, slightly fiery with acids inconspicuously blended in the original texture of tannins.

Country of origin: Slovakia, Little Carpathian Appelation, Trnavské vršky Tasting notes: Dark, deep and rich colour, at the edge of the wine’s meniscus it is deep ruby. The aroma is medium intense, rich in fruit, mostly blueberries, and it is supported by roasted coffee and dark chocolate. If you let the wine heat up in the glass a little, you will be surprised by the smell of blooming poppy. The wine has a rich structure and is carefully built into an extended long sensation that surprises with hardly noticeable alcohol that vanishes on one’s tongue. The tannins will dazzle with their gentle structure.
