II. Seminar Presentations Students are required to fulfill requirement for a 1-hour seminar presentation pertaining to the chosen area of research by the end of Year 3. The seminar will be advertised as part of the departmental seminar series. The seminar can be given in conjunction with proposal submission, as part of the preliminary examination or as a separate presentation. This will be decided by the research advisor(s). In addition, a 1 hour seminar credit listed in Year 4-5 will be fulfilled by completion of the dissertation defense.

III. Committee Meetings Candidates will be required to complete annual meetings with committee members by the end of the summer session. Failure to complete this requirement and obtain committee approval will result in blockade from registration in the fall. Format and content for each meeting will be at the discretion of the research advisor(s).

IV. Preliminary Examinations Preliminary exams shall be completed by the end of the fall semester in Year 4. Failure to complete this requirement and obtain committee approval will result in blockade of registration for the spring semester. Format for this exam will be at the discretion of the research advisor(s).

V. Research Proposal Research proposals shall be completed by the end of Year 3. Failure to complete this requirement and obtain committee approval will result in blockade of registration for the fall semester. Format for this document will be at the discretion of the research advisor(s).

VI. Dissertation Defense Completion of the candidate’s dissertation defense shall be completed following approval of the committee. Format for this component will include a 1 hour public seminar presentation followed by closed meeting with the chosen research committee. Following committee approval, the dissertation must be approved and filed with the thesis office.
