I. Message from Sandra H. McKinley, Bradford Hospital Foundation Board Chairman

On behalf of Bradford Hospital Foundation and the entire Hospital Family, we thank you for your continued support and generosity. With the contributions from the many generations of this community and the surrounding areas, BRMC has now positioned itself through the historic beginning of participation in a new collaborative regional health care system. Philanthropy given to BRMC will remain at BRMC. You, the community, employees and other hospital family members have experienced your philanthropy dollars at work most, including the successful completion of the “Building the Future” capital campaign for campus improvements. As a result, we in the community benefit from the new Outpatient Services Center which includes The Heart Center, The Cancer Care Center, Allegheny Vein & Vascular, and Surgical Services as Centers of Excellence. Other important services in this Center include Pediatric Associates, SMART, Upbeat Cardiac Rehab, and a new registration area. Funding from the capital campaign also enabled BRMC’s expansion and complete redesign of the Emergency Department which features streamlined admission procedures. Your gifts enable us to provide a state-of-the-art healthcare facility to make a difference in your life and those you love. Your trust in us inspires others to give! We thank you for your continued work as ambassadors of goodwill.

Sincerely,

Sandra H. McKinley, Bradford Hospital Foundation Board Chairman

Bradford Hospital Foundation exceeds goal in “Building The Future” Capital Campaign With wonderful community support and a well-organized campaign of volunteers and staff, Bradford Hospital Foundation’s “Building the Future” Capital Campaign has exceeded its $6 million goal in less than five years, announced Francie Ambuske, the Foundation’s director. Just over $6.2 million has been committed to financially support Bradford Regional Medical Center (BRMC) and its array of healthcare services in the new Outpatient Services Center. To highlight the fundraising milestone, a celebration for campaign organizers and volunteers was held on October 8th, 2009 in BRMC’s Same-Day Surgery waiting room. Sandra McKinley, Chairman of the Foundation and its Capital Campaign, said, “We raised this amount in less than 4 ½ years. Understand that I use the term ‘we’ loosely because it really was all of you who accomplished this and I can’t begin to express my deepest gratitude.” Through the estates of two sisters, Dorothy Reed and Berdena Coit, with 12

their gifts totaling $1.5 million, donations by others were matched dollar-for-dollar during the Building the Future campaign. As part of the campaign’s second phase, Bradford Hospital Auxiliary made a $300,000 pledge over five years, its largest pledge in history. The Auxiliary’s pledge served as a dollar-for-dollar match for BRMC employee giving. BRMC employees donated over $200,000 to the campaign. The Capital Campaign then entered its public fundraising phase in the spring of 2008. “I’m extremely pleased that during this final period the financial commitments continued to come from the community’s support and the hard work of our excellent capital campaign team,” said Mrs. Ambuske. The Foundation’s director also took a moment to emphasize the long-term volunteer and leadership support of Mrs. McKinley. “Over the years she has shown extraordinary dedication and a deep-felt commitment for quality healthcare and philanthropy,” said Mrs. Ambuske.

IV. One Woman’s Journey Diane Merry Mitchell of Bradford has turned her bereavement on the loss of a sister into a community-minded gift by creating the Mitchell/Tertinek/Phillips Hospice Room at The Pavilion at BRMC. This specially designed hospice room was made possible through a unique donor effort led by Mrs. Mitchell. Developing the fourth-floor hospice room became a clear goal of Mrs. Mitchell after caring for her sister, Brenda Merry Tertinek of Columbus Ind., for several months before she was transferred to a facility’s family-friendly hospice. Her sister died nearly two years ago. After returning home, Mrs. Mitchell says she realized, “There should be a hospice room dedicated for that type of care in Bradford.” She contacted Francie Ambuske, director of the Bradford Hospital Foundation, about raising funds to make the hospice room a reality. “We agreed that we can give hospice a home with a specially designed and equipped room at The Pavilion,” Mrs. Ambuske says. The donor effort raised more than $35,000 from friends and supporters of Mrs. Mitchell’s project. Ultimately, the hospice room was named in honor of the two sisters and a friend of Mrs. Mitchell’s, Betty Phillips of Bradford who was involved early on with the donor effort but passed away a few months ago.

The donor effort, including the Reed-Coit match, is approaching a $75,000 Naming Opportunity with gifts continuing to be received, says Mrs. Ambuske. This match was made possible through the estates of two sisters, Dorothy Reed and Berdena Coit, where their combined gift of $1.5 million will match a donor’s gift to the Foundation’s “Building The Future” Capital Campaign. “Over 64 people came together to support this hospice room project,” says Mrs. Ambuske, noting, “I just want to thank all these wonderful donors for the most unique gift possible.” Of the hospice room donors, eight of Betty Phillips’ high school friends, known as the D.D.’s, made contributions. To highlight the completion of the hospice room, a reception at The Pavilion at BRMC was held on October 23, 2009, so donors, Pavilion staff and the hospice team could tour it. A public open house is planned in the near future. The Pavilion at BRMC now has a hospice room to give needed privacy and home-like comfort to those spending their last days with supportive family and friends. “This hospice room is a very peaceful, private place in a professional setting to accommodate individuals who can no longer be taken care of at home or elsewhere during their final days,” says Bonnie Himes, The Pavilion’s administrator.

Golf & Sporting Clay Charity Classic It takes many supporters to make this outing possible, and we express our sincere thanks to the hole and station sponsors, dinner and raffle sponsors, and our corporate and private business advertisers. V. e. Annual Giving: Honorary Named Funds We indeed hold in the highest regard the list below of our Honorary Named Fund members. Leaders over their lifetime and serving BRMC, the following have dedicated their services to BRMC as physicians, nurses, auxilians, board leaders and community leaders.

24

Bradford Hospital Foundation offers a unique way for donors to remember special individuals with a memorial or honorary gift. Here at Bradford Hospital Foundation, we offer a variety of Funds that help support the many services of Bradford Regional Medical Center. They include but are not limited to: Oncology, Cardiology, The Pavilion at BRMC, or McKean County VNA & Hospice.

V. e. Annual Giving: Memorial Funds They were our families, our friends, and our neighbors. They spent their lives serving in their community, each in their own way. Some lived a life time, and others lived their lives fully for the time they were here. A gift to any of these Memorial and Named Funds helps make a difference and helps us to remember the importance they made in our lives.

Bradford Hospital Auxiliary Fund The Bradford Hospital Auxiliary was formed in 1932 primarily to provide financial assistance to Bradford Hospital. In 1952 the Auxiliary expanded their scope to raise awareness and funds creating the Scholarship Fund. The Auxiliary awards six scholarships annually for continuing education in the fields of nursing and radiography technology. Two scholarships are available to second-year students in the Associate of Science in Nursing Program. Bradford Regional Medical Center provides expert training in Radiologic Technology through our acclaimed School of Radiography. For over two decades students have been prepared to enter the work force, and all graduates have been certified through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists as Radiographers. Four scholarships are available through the Auxiliary in the areas of clinical, academic excellence, new professional and in memory of Janet Butler. Gifts to the Bradford Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund will be used to support the annual scholarships provided in nursing and radiography.

VI. Bradford Hospital Auxiliary: b. Scholarship Fund & Luncheon Annual Recognition Luncheon More than 200 BRMC volunteers, many who also serve as members of Bradford Hospital Auxiliary, were honored during the Annual Recognition Luncheon at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford. The luncheon also included the Auxiliary’s second $60,000 donation being made to the Bradford Hospital Foundation. This goes toward the Auxiliary’s overall five-year pledge of $300,000, its largest commitment ever. The donation is for the Foundation’s “Building The Future” capital campaign, which began in 2005 and had a $6 million goal. Auxiliary President Beverly Gallup said to former BRMC President/CEO George E. Leonhardt, “On behalf of Bradford Hospital Auxiliary and its members, here’s our second $60,000 donation toward our total pledge amount. We know you’ll put it to very good use for our hospital and community.” In thanking the Auxiliary, Mr. Leonhardt said the donation would be extremely helpful in reaching the Foundation’s overall five-year capital campaign goal.
