The humidity rate is critical for applications such as pharmaceutical, chemical or paper industries. To meet the restrictive demands, dehumidification wheels are integrated in the AHU. These systems, based on adsorption principle, can provide air with very low humidity rate.

From hygienic applications... HOSPITAL, PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY AND MICRO ELECTRONICS For a hospital to operate at it’s maximum potential, it has to have all systems working at the optimum. This not only applies to staff, communications and life support systems, but also to pipework, cleaning and ventilation systems. In the pharmaceutical or micro electronics applications, the air treatment will directly influence the productivity. The air handling unit, the heart of the system, has to meet the high requirements. The material of components and the design have to be carefully worked out to facilitate both cleanability and maintenance.
Fläkt Woods Group has the widest range of fans on the market - CENTRIFLOW PLUS® plenum fan, now available with EFF1 integrated motors or EC motors - High pressure fan
Fully welded HEPA filter frame with DOP test device as accessory Secure fixation of HEPA filter

Heat recovery solutions ROTARY HEAT EXCHANGER The choice of heat recovery system depends on conditions applicable within each project. The highest efficiency options are not necessarily the best for certain applications.
Compact dimensions: small space requirement within units
Fläkt Woods heat exchanger technology includes:
Supplied with speed control
PLATE HEAT EXCHANGER Simple operation: no pump or control needed Odours/bacteria transfer risk is low Optional by-pass damper Temperature efficiency 50-60%*
Can recover moisture and cooling: reducing chiller load
Temperature efficiency: 75-85%* TWIN WHEEL For projects requiring dehumidification and reheat of supply air
LIQUID COUPLED HEAT EXCHANGER For projects requiring zero risk of cross contamination between supply and exhaust air Supply and extract units can be separated Temperature efficiency: 45-55%* ECONET® As for a liquid-coupled heat exchanger, but incorporating advanced technology for enhanced performance capabilities (see below) Temperature efficiency: 65-75%*
A non-hygroscopic (re-heating) wheel, and a hygroscopic (pre-cooling) wheel – with a cooling coil Ideal for use with Chilled Beams to avoid moisture problems Excellent energy recovery in winter
*calculated at peak load and equal airflow
Temperature efficiency: up to 100%* of reheat, and up to 50%* of cooling requirements
Rotary heat exchanger manufactured by Fläkt Woods
ECONET® SYSTEM The components in Fläkt Woods’ innovative Econet system are connected together to provide a more reliable and more efficient AHU system. Heat recovery, heating and cooling are integrated into a common circuit as heating/cooling coils, pumps, valves, pipe systems, insulation, etc. The result is a shorter and more compact ventilation unit. This is highly beneficial from an environmental point of view because much less energy is used to transport the air through unnecessary components. Further development of the principle of energy recovery has also led to increases in efficiency of 50% compared with traditional coil recovery systems. Econet is patented by Fläkt Woods and has been installed in more than 1000 sites in Europe.
No risk of odour/bacteria transfer Supply and exhaust air units can be separated from each other Constantly optimised energy recovery Pump with sensors and frequency converter Exceptionally low temperature requirement for hot water Chilled water can be as high as 12°C Ideal for use with renewable energy resources Can recover cooling in summer months Ideal for indirect evaporative cooling Compact size for shorter AHUs Low Life Cycle Cost (LCC)
Integrated advantages A carefully designed system can achieve more than the sum of the integral parts. High-performing components are an obvious starting point. But it is by combining products into a system, utilizing smart controls, one can achieve the best energy solutions. Fläkt Woods develops and produces components as well as design systems. That’s why we can combine the parts into harmonic overall solutions.
Smart controls systems
Smart diffusers - Indoor comfort Air Handling Units
Controlling airflow - VAV Fan coils

ECONET® - High efficiency liquid coupled heat exchanger
Energy-efficient Chillers
Within the industry we use an analysis approach called “Life Cycle Cost“ when designing ventilation systems. It balances the cost of better components and smarter system control with savings in maintenance and energy costs over the systems life time. Not surprisingly a smarter system comes out on top. About 85% of the life time cost is typically energy costs, 10% initial investment and 5% maintenance.
