Castlebrooke Secondary SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM) INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY In order to meet the high demand in the coming years for quality skilled workers in the Information and Communications Technology Industry, Castlebrooke Secondary School is excited to offer this unique program. The SHSM program at our school will focus on two areas of ICT – Interactive Digital Media and Digital Systems Engineering. Option #1 is more for the arts/technology (right brained) students with a focus on computer animation, video and radio broadcasting, video gaming production and Apps development. Option #2 is more for the technology/math/science (left brained) students with a focus on computer programming, computer engineering and M2M Robotics (systems controls). The Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) at CSS involves students completing a package of courses that meets the needs of all students with an interest in developing the skills necessary for a career in the Information and Communications Technology Industry. The Information and Communications Technology Industry acknowledges and supports the program through certification and appropriate industry placements. In order to complete an SHSM in Information and Communications Technology, students: 1. Complete a bundle of 9 specific courses (see chart below); 2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs; 3. Participate in experiential learning and career exploration activities within the sector (e.g. co-op work experience, job shadowing, job twinning); 4. Learn and document the industry Essential Skills and work habits using the Ontario Skills Passport; 5. Gain “Reach Ahead” experience connected to the student’s post secondary plans.

Castlebrooke Secondary SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM) SPORTS Our SHSM program in Sports at Castlebrooke SS has a focus on personal development, interpersonal skills and leadership. All students will gain knowledge about physical fitness and health education, kinesiology, recreation and leisure activities. The in-school program consists of a bundle of courses in each of the areas which will provide the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance student learning. Students will be involved in reach ahead experiences and exposure to post-secondary institutions such as the University of Waterloo as well as Humber and Sheridan Colleges. Students will also have an opportunity for job shadowing and job twinning experiences. There will be sector recognized certifications in WHMIS, AED, First Aid, CPR, as well as coaching (NCCP), High Five, taping and wrapping. In order to complete an SHSM in Sports, students 1. Complete a bundle of 9 specific courses (see chart below); 2. Complete Sector Certifications and/or training programs; 3.
