ELUMA is a company established in 1943, part of the Paranapanema Group. It is one of the largest Brazilian manufacturers of copper and copper alloys semi-manufactured products, developing and manufacturing seamless tubes, rolled products, bars, wires and fittings for a wide range of applications.

The search for continuous improvements within the Quality Management System prevails by means of ISO 9001:2000 certification, as well as the product compliance certifications issued by the BSI (British Standards Institution).

ELUMA products are manufactured in compliance with the highest quality standards, and their manufacturing processes are based on both Brazilian and international technical standards.

In order to meet the expectations of a highly demanding and competitive market, ELUMA products are distributed throughout the country, and part of the monthly production is exported to more than 30 countries in several continents.

ELUMA employs more than 1,400 persons distributed among three units: two factories in Santo André (SP) and a third one in Serra (ES), comprising a total area of 500,000 m2. In a permanent evolution trend, ELUMA invests, on an orderly and creatively way, in high technology equipment and in improving and qualifying its human resources, by means of a continuous skilled personnel improvement program.

COPPER AND COPPER ALLOY ROLLED PRODUCTS DESCRIPTION: Products featuring flat surface, rectangular cross section and homogeneous thickness throughout its length, obtained by means of hot and cold rolling process, delivered in coils, reels, sheets and strips. They comply with specific standard requirements, depending on the material to be produced, such as ASTM B-36 for tomback and brass, ASTM B-103 for bronze, and ASTM B-152 for copper, and EN Standards.

FEATURES: • COPPER: high electrical and thermal conductivity, good drawing properties and mechanical resistance; preservation of mechanical properties at high temperatures; recyclable. • BRASS: excellent drawing properties; good conductivity associated to high mechanical resistance; recyclable. • BRONZE: good plastical conformation; high mechanical resistance combined with high elongation; good resistance to fatigue and corrosion; medium electric conductivity; drawing properties; recyclable.

Ammunition; connectors, contacts, bulb sockets; toilet metal fixtures; hinges; printery; radiators; trays; jewelry; belts, buttons and eyelets; musical instruments; decorative objects.

• BRONZE:

Pressure gauge tubes; diaphragms; printery; connectors and terminals; general purpose electrical materials, such as “spring-effect” contacts; musical instruments.

SMOOTH: • TUBES FOR REFRIGERATION / AIR CONDITIONING: Tubes generally used in industries and refrigeration facilities comply with specific standard requirements for such purpose, among which the widest-known are the ASTM B-280, and the ASTM B-743, and EN Standards. The product specification is strictly observed regarding its dimensions and tolerances. They are supplied in coils or in straight lengths.

• GENERAL APPLICATION TUBES:

DESCRIPTION: Tubes are made by means of cold extrusion and drawing process, in order to achieve a product with a continuous cross section, without discontinuities and with uniform wall thickness. The inner and/or outer surfaces can be smooth, grooved or finned along their entire length. The product can be supplied in straight lengths, coils or reels.

FEATURES: Copper Tubes feature good chemical resistance; good resistance to corrosion; excellent thermal and electrical conductivity; good mechanical resistance; weldability; easy handling; it is recyclable and has a long working life.

MAIN APPLICATIONS: Home, industrial and automotive air conditioning equipments; condensers; evaporators; compressors; electrical connectors; refrigeration, electric and decorative components; hydraulic, gas and fire-fighting facilities.

Straight length tubes featuring a more comprehensive application are used on different industrial, aesthetical and decorative applications. They comply with specific standard requirements, according to their use; the widest-known standards are the ASTM B-68, the ASTM B-75, the ASTM B-111, and EN-Standards.

• FINNED TUBES: • TUBE WITH EXTERNAL FINS (LOW FIN / MEDIUM FIN): Straight length tubes with external fins, which besides increasing the exchange surface, improve the process’ efficiency. This tube is used by heat exchangers, evaporators, condensers, heaters and coolers manufacturers.

• EXTERNAL finned TUBES with INTERNAL grooves (LOW FIN turbo): Straight length tubes featuring external fins associated with internal helicoidal groves, such configuration increases the external surface of thermal exchange together with higher internal fluid’s turbulence, thus improving the process efficiency. This tube is used by heat exchanger, evaporator and condenser manufacturers.

• TUBE WITH INTERNAL GROOVES (INTERNAL FIN): Straight length tubes featuring a greater exchange area and generate a higher temperature gradient between the tube wall and the circulating fluid. This tube is used by direct expansion evaporator manufacturers. They are supplied as straight length tubes.

• hidrolar® tubes HIDROLAR® copper tubes are rigid and seamless tubes that are extrusion-manufactured and then calibrated into commercial diameters by means of a drawing process. They are manufactured according to the ABNT-NBR 13206 standard. Their chemical composition requires at least 99.9% of copper. Copper tubes have the following features: good chemical resistance; good resistance to corrosion; easy handling; good mechanical resistance; long working life, and they are recyclable. They are joined to copper or bronze fittings by means of capillary welding.

• SOLAR® TUBES

According to the application, engraving, and ink markings on their surface, HIDROLAR® copper tubes are divided into three classes.

Seamless rigid tubes that are extrusion-manufactured and then calibrated into commercial diameters by means of a drawing process.

Unless otherwise specified by the hydraulic designer, they are normally used for:

• CLASS E - Identified by

green plastic end caps. They are recommended for cold and hot water, gas, fire-fighting (hydrant and sprinkler) facilities.

• ELUMAGÁS® TUBES: Seamless tubes manufactured similarly to HIDROLAR® and SOLAR® TUBES but receiving a thermal treatment following the drawing process, thus making them flexible. They are employed in gas facilities for interconnecting with other pieces of equipment (gas meters, cylinders, etc).

• CLASS A - Identified by

yellow plastic end caps. They are recommended for all class E tube applications, as well as for fuel and medical gas facilities.

• CLASS I - Identified by

blue plastic end caps. They are recommended for all class A pipe applications, as well as for high-pressure and steam industrial facilities.

They are supplied in coils. Installation Technical Standards: NBR 13523, NBR 13932, NBR 13933, and NBR 14570.

FITTINGS

ELUMA has the most complete range of fittings for your facility. The composition and manufacturing of these fittings comply with the regulations of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, NBR 11.720. Furthermore, BSI has granted to ELUMA the right to use the Kitemark. These fittings are made of copper and bronze on the following lines: Welded (with or without solderring), Threaded, ELUMAPLAST®, NPT and Flanged.

• WELDABLE FITTINGS: They are tightly adjusted to ELUMA’s HIDROLAR® copper TUBES, meeting all classes (A, E, and I), by means of capillary welding. They are supplied with or without welding ring.

• THREAD X THREAD Bronze fittings used for interconnecting hydraulic materials, such as shut-off valves, faucets and showers.

• ELUMAPLAST® This is the ideal fitting to be used with PVC piping. They are made of bronze with a PVC union ring, and they are attached to PVC tubes by means of an adhesive, they do not dry-out and provide greater adherence with mortar. They are indicated to be used on terminal points such as electric showers, faucets, cut-off valves and others.

• NPT FITTINGS Fittings made of bronze that are used for interconnecting ELUMA’s HIDROLAR® Copper tubes (by means of capillary welding) with accessories featuring the same thread pattern (NPT).

• FLANGED Designed to meet our range of flexible tubes, they constitute a new concept in terms of hydraulic facilities. Flanged fittings are versatile, practical and effective, perfect for a point-to-point system.

Copper and Copper Alloy Wires

DESCRIPTION: The wires are produced by hot extrusion followed by cold drawing. Those products are manufactured in conformity with quality standards, and according to ASTM B-16, ASTM B-134, ASTM B-152, and EN-Standards.

COPPER AND COPPER ALLOY BARS AND PROFILES

DESCRIPTION: Non-flat and profile-shaped products featuring solid or hollow cross-section that can be ordered on the following shapes: round, square, hexagon, octagon, rectangular and profile-shaped. The surface is smooth throughout the entire length, obtained by means of extrusion manufacturing process, followed by cold drawing or just the extrusion. These products are prepared in accordance with quality standards complying with ASTM B-16, ASTM B-124, ASTM B-187, ASTM B453, ASTM B-455 and EN standards.

ENGINEERING

ELUMA has on its Product Application Engineering Department a qualified technical team for providing a distinguished service on several market sectors in which it is present. Its main purpose is serving and fully meeting the customers’ needs. It studies and develops new products for applications that comply with Brazilian and international technical standards, which assure technological solutions and quality standards. On its unique pre-sales work, material supply feasibility studies are conducted and assessed together with the plant and in compliance with the customer-provided specifications. Should it be required, the Engineering department performs preventively scheduled visits at the customers’ in order to inspect the product during the manufacturing process. On the after-sales, we provide technical guidance, helping to improve and evolve the application onto the customer’s manufacturing process.

LABORATORIES Our chemical and physical laboratories employ state-of-art testing equipment, which are used for controlling the quality and the manufacturing process of ELUMA merchandised products, featuring the most advanced technologies of the segment. In order to assure the reliability of our Atomic Absorption Spectrometer: it enables classifying our raw materials to their highest degree of purity.

In this sense, ELUMA, by developing an environmental management system, is committed to continuously improve its industrial processes according to the legislation and in compliance with its environmental policy. This environmental concern started years ago, with significant investments into its manufacturing process, by incorporating high-technology equipment. ELUMA reuses approximately 98% of the water used on its manufacturing sites, and it also develops a waste management system. Every operation by-product must be properly treated in order to eliminate any contaminant resulting from the industrial process, as set forth by the strict environmental laws in force. For ELUMA, a leading company is not made by direct investments only, but by spreading the environmental awareness and responsibility, respect towards nature, and nature preservation, in order to meet the present needs, without compromising the future generations.
