Design & Engineering Commercial Aquatics Australia’s in-house design team brings the vast experience gained from designing and building resort, community and commercial pools across the country to providing a comprehensive design service for any type of project, from private plunge pools through to major public aquatic centres. The team provides both complete design-only packages as well as design-and-construct services in conjunction with Commercial Aquatics Australia’s construction department. The design and operation of filtration, disinfection and hydraulics contributes just as much to the success of a pool as the structure itself. In a fast-moving industry, new advanced technologies mean that yesterday’s solution is probably no longer the best choice for maximum value or enjoyment. Community expectations are high, demanding sustainable energy solutions, whilst asking for more familyfriendly pool environments with less intrusive disinfection regimes.

The focus throughout is on providing reliable, efficient, sustainable and cost-effective solutions for all forms of commercial aquatic systems. Our team manages the whole process from initial concept through to construction completion, with 3D visualisations giving clients a clear picture of the design options. In addition to new construction projects, the design team also provides professional specialist aquatic consultancy services, including existing facility audits, master planning advice, system problem identification and resolution, together with technical investigations and reporting for the aquatic industry. We work closely with local authorities, developers and

architects to ensure that planning decisions are made in full knowledge of all the technological and aesthetic options available. Our clients can be assured that all design works are fully compliant with relevant standards and codes, and that Commercial Aquatics Australia holds the required Professional Indemnity Insurance.

Construction Commercial Aquatics Australia has designed and constructed aquatic facilities across Australia, from FINA-approved competition facilities in capital cities, to pools for remote Aboriginal and island communities in the far North. Our experience in solving the logistical and environmental challenges of these very different locations means that construction regimes and schedules are dependable, leading to effective budget and project management at all levels. A number of different construction techniques are appropriate for commercial pools, and we are pleased to provide advice and design assistance at the earliest stages to guide the development of a project. In addition to pool structures, Commercial Aquatics Australia has specific expertise in every aspect of construction, including: • Surfaces/Interior Finishes – fully tiled, plaster finish, vinyl lined or painted.

• Myrtha Technology – stainless steel panels permanently laminated with a hard PVC coating, meaning quick assembly, unparalleled maintenance performance and extensive warranty. • Renovations – from complete redesign & refurbishment, to a total makeover of the plant room and filtration system. We also specialise in resurfacing old pools, either fully tiled, plastered, vinyl lined or refurbished, using Myrtha Technology’s RenovAction®. • Plant Rooms – whether upgrading existing systems or installing complete plant rooms, Commercial Aquatics Australia has licensed plumbers experienced in swimming pool filtration and hydraulics.

Commercial Aquatics Australia personnel have a wealth of experience and skills, some with over 25 years in commercial construction. Always looking for more efficient and innovative methods of construction, we can frequently offer cost savings over traditional methods. Our in-house Quality Assurance Management System and Design & Documentation processes ensure no oversights, enabling a smooth transition from design and manufacturing through to the installation stage and final completion.

Filtration & Water Treatment No operator can afford to ignore the issue of pool contamination, whether from environmental sources or swimmers. A well-maintained, properly operating filtration and treatment system is essential to protect patrons from harmful pathogens and keep the facility in a condition which meets community expectations. There are a number of different possible approaches to filtration and disinfection, each with its own merits. Increasingly, responsible operators must consider a multi-barrier risk management approach, including control of Cryptosporidium and Giardia parasites, which are not removed by more conventional filtration methods. Other considerations are the potential for on-site chemical generation, ultraviolet disinfection and water reclaim solutions. The revolutionary

Perlite filtration system designed for the South Australian Aquatic & Leisure Centre led to a Channel 9 News report describing the water as so clear and soft, it was ‘like diving into silk sheets’. Commercial Aquatics Australia, with many years of experience in building and operating systems in all kinds of environments, is ideally placed to devise appropriate treatment solutions for new installations, and to provide exceptional servicing and maintenance for existing facilities.

Myrtha pools Developed in Europe, the Myrtha system is leading-edge technology, based upon a unique modular system employing stainless steel panels laminated with a special rigid PVC membrane on the inside surface. Together with buttresses at each panel joint, this arrangement makes the pool structure fully self-supporting. Myrtha Technology is tailored for customers who appreciate quality, and who opt for safe long-term technical investments.

The panels are pre-engineered off-site, with all components manufactured under factory conditions to ISO 9001 standards and shipped to the location. This means that the pool can be built in a very short space of time, with no heavy equipment required on site – a huge advantage where the facility is part of a more complex construction project.

faster installation than conventional concrete structure design. The precise assembly process provides exceptional reliability and long lasting performance over time, a result of the structure’s resistance to adverse atmospheric conditions. Any type of pool project is suitable for this technology, from precise competitive situations to elaborate freeform pool design.

Commercial Aquatics Australia, as the local partner of Myrtha Pools, has had outstanding success installing this technology for clients in a large number of high-profile aquatic centre developments throughout Australia.

Myrtha Technology is also environmentally friendly, as determined by a comparison of carbon emissions on a Myrtha and traditional concrete structure. Myrtha commissioned ACOR Consultants (a renowned Australian Engineering Company) who determined that the carbon footprint of a 50 m Myrtha Pool can be up to 50% lower than that of a traditional 50 m concrete tiled pool.

This system offers highly flexible planning and design alternatives that have no limit with regard to the structure’s shape or size – a significantly

With the use of special Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) software, Myrtha CFD technology can simulate the pool

circulation before its construction, providing reliable 3D simulations and digital tests. Myrtha boasts numerous FINA standard competition pools that host international events, including FINA World Championships, Olympic and Commonwealth Games. There are installations in some 70 countries, including: • MSAC – Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre • SAALC – South Australian Aquatic & Leisure Centre • London Olympic Village – 30th Olympic Games • Barcelona – 15th FINA World Championships Another feature of Myrtha Technology is RenovAction® – a patented and exclusive modular pool renovation system which allows the design of a pool to be expanded or changed without any major demolition work.
