The Cancun Underwater Museum is one the most amazing tourist attractions in the world. An absolute “must see” if you are on vacations in Cancun! Cancun Underwater Museum also known as MUSA is a Non Profit Organization based in Cancun Mexico devoted to the Art of Conservation. In November 2009, around 100 statues were placed in shallow waters of Cancun National Marine Park, and that was the beginning of the project. The total museum installation occupies more than 150 sq. meters (1,600 sq. feet) and weighs over 120 tons. The museum will one day be an artificial ecosystem with different types of fish and marine life. This museum is located in waters surrounding Cancun, Punta Nizuc and Isla Mujeres and is one of the most astonishing underwater sculptural installations you will ever see.

Around 470 startling sculptures of Jason deCaires Taylor will take your breath away. Taylor is an internationally acclaimed sculptor of underwater sculptures, and contemporary underwater sculptures which over time develop into artificial coral reefs became his specialty. Combining his skills as an underwater photographer, conservationist and scuba diving instructor he managed to create magnificent underwater living installations. This bewildering collection of sculptures encourages growth of corals and marine life. The peculiarity of his work is that they change over time affected by the environment. The synergy of creation and nature gives a special charm to these sculptures because these changes would be impossible to emulate artificially. As time wears on, the sculptures change and evolve into spectacular formations.

DIVING IN CANCUN

Diving is a sport that requires theoretical and practical training. While preparation is necessary, it is not a complex discipline and anyone can do it. The great advantage of diving is the opportunity to explore new environments, discovering different animals and having a new experience every day.

THERE ARE DIFFERENT CERTIFICATIONS Nowadays there are different types of certifications: diver specialist in open water, rescue diver, first aid diver and divemaster. It is necessary to make an exception regarding professional and commercial divers since in this practice the decompression is not required, just diving with limits of time and depth. The requirements for diving depend on where are you doing it. In the Mexican Caribbean, for the basic level, you need to be physically healthy and have a minimum level of athletic skills. As the diver aims to advance in the discipline, he needs to acquire new abilities. Most certification agencies demand that the person has a minimum age of 10 years old.

Some pre dive recommendations: 

Do not drink too much alcohol before diving • Drink plenty of water • Have a light breakfast • Be well rested before the dive • Dive always with a partner • Do not consume any medication or drugs

• Be prepared for emergencies (knowing the location of the closest medical care centers) It is also recommended not to fly within the first 24 hours after the immersion. It is also not recommended to dive if you have asthma, hypertension, epilepsy, respiratory problems or for pregnant women. Diving in Cancun offers a variety of options for certified divers. You may dive into coral reefs, one of the oldest formations on the planet. These corals are visited by a variety of fish of different colors, sizes and species that are worthy of admiration.

OTHER TYPES OF DIVING Moreover, in this part of the Mexican Caribbean you can perform cave and cenote diving. This vast network of tunnels, made of limestone, is an ideal place to explore, as many cenotes of Yucatan are open to the public. Cancun also gives the visitors the chance to dive at night. With this activity the feelings change in the dark, when only a light serves as a reference. The color of the flora and fauna of the reefs are completely different and also the habits of animals, which makes this an unforgettable experience.

FLYBOARD

THE FLYBOARD IS ONE OF OUR NEWEST ACTIVITIES Aquaworld prides themselves on being top of their game and being the first to offer top notch Cancun activities. The Flyboard, invented by Franky Zapata in 2011 is one of the newest activities in Cancun and we are one of only a couple of operators offering this experience. The Flyboard consists of a pair of boots attached to a board, jet nozzles and hoses connected to a waverunner. After receiving instructions you will swim out to the activity area and put on the equipment. Our instructor will drive the waverunner which guides you around the lagoon as you fly over the water propelled by the water jets. As you become accustomed to the gear and find your balance you will find it easy to navigate and will soon be soaring above the Nichupte Lagoon.
