Can Dance May 2016 Newsletter Wow! What a year. I love my Can Dance family. This year we’ve had so many wonderful memories and events that I cannot wait to see what next year holds. Can Dance believes every dancer is special. Every child can dance!

April 29 and May 2nd Pro-d days for school but yes, regular classes at dance th
May 7/8 Champions dance competition. Times below. Please note this competition is in Maple Ridge at the Act theatre. You again need to be ready to dance one hour before the times posted. WE may need to dance early to accommodate costume changes. Championships are similar to Synergy where the top dances perform again Sunday night at 4:30pm. Please understand you may be required to come back Sunday at 4:30pm if your dance makes it into the finals. Stay posted on the can dance studio 2015-2016 Facebook page for updates. I will not be able to call each person so please watch to make sure you do not miss the finals.
May 10th Company dance auditions 3:30-5:30 age 11 and under and 5:30-7:30 age 12 and up. If you are interested in becoming a company dancer that trains at a high level (min 4 hours a week) in competition classes you must attend this day. Yes, all company dancers for this year still must attend for next year’s placement. No regular classes on this day. th
May 10 3:30 acro class is welcome to stay and try out for the company dance classes for their age or come th th Friday May 13 3:30-4:30, so they do not miss their class. If they stay 3:30-4:30 on May 10 they will be required to try a little hiphop/ jazz/lyrical along with acro. The other kids are also just trying the different kinds of dance to see what they like and which class they will be in. rd
May 23 May long weekend No classes . This month has 5 Mondays and so many dancers are away so we will have to cancel this day of classes. th
May 29 is photo day at the studio. You will enter from downstairs and then come up for the photo. Envelopes will be handed out ahead of time, or printed off from below. Please bring the envelope back before picture day so we can organize them all. All dancers are required to come with full costumes and makeup. Times are also listed below on page 6. Hair will be the same as competition but remember you are not dancing so it doesn’t need to be pinned and tight. Acro: Hair in a low bun in the back. Ballet: high bun in the back. Makeup is brown eye shadow, black eyeliner, black mascara and red lipstick for both Acro and Ballet children. th

May 30 to June 3 Bring a friend to dance week!!! Yes, to any and all classes you can bring a friend for free to try our classes. Also a great chance to try out a different class like lyrical, Jazz, hiphop, acro or any of our fun styles.

June 15 is the year end show rehearsal. You will be required to come to the Clarke theatre on this day at the time that will be given in your June newsletter.

June 16 will be our year end show. We will be trying something new this year and will be having a solo show 5:00-6:00 and then our group show 6:30-8:30 This will keep the group show shorter and give the parents a chance to video tape their own children’s solos and allow the audience to stay for the entire show with their children. The group show will be professionally videotaped and be available for purchase at $53.50 for the entire show. Tickets will go st on sale June 1 $15 for the solo show $20 for the group show or $25 for both shows. Students will need a ticket $5 each if they wish to watch either show. This fee covers their ticket for both shows.

July 1 Canada Day show ALL company dancers will be performing. Mini hiphop jazz and lyrical. Jr contemp. Lyrical, hiphop. Inters Hiphop, contemporary, jazz and seniors Jazz, contemp, and lyrical. This is an opportunity to dance at the heritage park in a huge community celebration.

3 All fees must be paid in order for your child to perform in the year end show. For those of you who still have outstanding fees please see me in the office immediately.
Summer dance camp. We are thinking of having two one-week long dance camps. One in July and one in August 9am -12noon technique, fun combos, it would be $75 for the week all ages we will split into two younger ones in one class older kids in the other. Acrobatics, Jazz, Hiphop, stretching th th and strength, turns and so on. Thinking July 25-29 and/ or August 22-26 . st Must register by June 1 . Payment in full will be required. No refunds as we will be reserving your spot. Only 15 kids per level will be accepted.
Also Wednesday nights all summer long will be our annual summer technique class with Miss Rachelle. 79pm. Each week check out the Facebook page (Can Dance 2015- 2016 page) to make sure she will be coming out but usually it works out for every Wednesday in July and August.

Photo Day times: Can Dance Studio Sunday May 29 All solos/duos and groups are scheduled. You must attend your group but solos are optional so if you are not doing your solo please let me know as we have accommodated for costume changes and this will effect other people’s costume changes. Please be on time and patient. We will do our best to get you in and out of there as soon as we can. Please come dressed and ready unless you have more than one dance. No parents in the room while the photo is being taken as it is distraction. REMEMBER if you are not ordering a photo and are in a group you still need to come. Not for solos though.
