his year has flown by and we’re already in the winter season, the last of our 10th anniversary. We launched The Day Pass in March and it has drawn rave reviews from members and new visitors. We are excited to have it available for the first time this winter season. It includes multiple activities for your indoor winter fun. Our Holiday Party season is under way, with a variety activities, food and fun for groups of all sizes. The parties team do an amazing job accommodating every event, see more on page 28. Don’t forget our event that has the fastest sell out, Brunch with Santa. See more on page 30. It may be winter but summer camps has started taking early bird registration for summer 2017. Just like how winter came in the blink of an eye summer will be here soon. Main Street is the historic aviation-themed entryway, welcome center, and thoroughfare into Aviator Sports and Events Center. The environment features the Customer Service Center, modeled after an air traffic control tower, our 35-foot rock climbing wall, Max Flight simulator, Bungee Jump, Arcade and more. Aviator Athletics offers small group functional fitness classes. All individuals are welcome! Whether you are an individual starting to get into shape, advanced gym goer, elite athlete looking to add a new element to training or somewhere in between our coaches will get to know your strengths and weaknesses to help you reach your personal goals.

Are you still registering for your family’s favorite Aviator programs in person or over the phone? It’s never been easier to register for any of your families favorite programs at Aviator. On the newly redesigned aviatorsports.com, we have taken ease of registration convenience very seriously. Based on customer feedback and best practices, it is now easier for you to get access to the programs and events you are looking for

simple steps to create an account, and then you’ll be able to register. Our analytics show that over 60 percent of our traffic is mobile. This fact meant it was a priority for us to make it easier for our customers to access information and registration through any mobile device. DASH also provides a simple interface for you to select your class and login to register.

DASH also has an app that will make it easy for you to manage your account and register for classes. Download it from the App Store on iOS or Play on Android .

When on a page for any class on aviatorsports.com, look for red REGISTER buttons. This will lead you to the specific class page on our online registration system, DASH. Once here, you will be able to select your desired class. If you’re already in the system you will be prompted to login. If you’re a first time customer, you will be taken through the

Our coaches are passionate about fitness helping members feel better about themselves physically and mentally. Howard Fox is the Aviator Athletics Head Coach. Howard has a Doctorate of Physical Therapy, DPT from Touro College and has trained athletes with the New York Islanders, New York Mets, New York Rangers and New York Applecore Junior Hockey League. Howard is a strength and conditioning coach with brings over 8 years of coaching experience. Howard specializes in athletic performance and injury prevention for athletes of all ages and abilities. ADULT CLASS By: Eliot Podgorsky We’re officially in Back to School mode! Last week, NYC students waved goodbye to the summer of 2016 and hello to new teachers, classrooms, and friends. For most parents, it’s a welcome reprieve – the kids go back to school and they don’t have to worry about how to keep them busy and safe. For the kids, it’s a dread that their fabulously free summers are over, and it’s back to schoolwork and homework. But what about after school? How do you keep kids engaged and happy? What about making time for playdates or sports? Finding the right after school program is important to all of the aforementioned questions. But how do you know what to look for? Emily Slavutskaya, coordinator of youth programs at Aviator Sports and Events Center, recommends five things to consider: 1) Homework assistance being given by quality staff The few hours after school are a critical time for children to work on their homework, projects, and assignments. They are still fresh

from learning the subject matter at school and completing homework promptly helps reinforce what they were taught. Another important factor is the quality staff at the program. Homework Helpers need to be knowledgeable in the various subjects, including but not limited to English, math, science, social studies. 2) Bus service from schools at dismissal time to the after school program facility Parents shouldn’t have to worry about how their children are getting to after school. Relying on carpools or waiting for a bus/van that has to make multiple stops doesn’t give parents peace of mind. An after school program that provides bus service from multiple schools alleviates these concerns. 3) Full-day programming on days when school is not in session Events like teacher conferences are built into kids schedules but not their parents’ work schedule. An after school program that runs on kids vacation days allows parents to work without having to worry about babysitters

Age: 16+ Adult classes is fast paced high volume, high intensity, circuit training based class that will help to increase metabolism, build strength and give the mindset to move through daily tasks with confidence. Movements are infinitely scaleable and we welcome individuals starting to get in shape, advanced gym-

keeping kids entertained for the day. Instead, kids get to have a fun day with friends in a place they enjoy. 4) Healthy Snacks and Drinks The after school snack has been a staple of kids lives since school was invented. It is important that an After School Program be able to provide kids with nutritious snacks to keep their minds sharp and their bodies energized for homework help and fun activities. 5) Fun and exciting activities Homework help shouldn’t take forever so after school programs need to have a variety of exciting programs to keep kids entertained and having fun during their time at after school. Another bonus to consider – you can use the after school program at Aviator as a way to transport your kids to their sports programs at Aviator Sports.

AVIATOR TRAVEL HOCKEY CLUB Aviator Hockey Club is NYC’s only Tier 1 hockey program. All of our head coaches are NON-PARENT, full-time, professional staff. As of April 2015, we were approved to move from Tier II to a Tier I New York State Tournament bound organization participating in the Long Island Amateur Hockey League. Meet Volleyball Technical Director Max Auguste: Part One By: Eliot Podgorsky The growth of the popularity volleyball is indisputable, and the demand for programming has been increasing at Aviator. Enter Max Auguste, Aviator’s new Technical Director for Volleyball. Max has been involved in volleyball as a player and coach for over 20 years and is a former player and captain of the St. Lucia National Team. He was named St. Lucia National Volleyball Player of the year in 1995. He played on an athletic scholarship for the Queens College “Knights,” where he received numerous awards including, Most Valuable Player, Scholar Athlete and Most Outstanding Senior. Max has served as volleyball instructor and director at multiple successful clinics and related programs in the New York metro area and in his native country of St. Lucia. The partnership between Aviator Sports and Fundamental Private Volleyball Training aim to take the volleyball programs at Aviator Sports to the highest levels of team and personal achievement. What inspired you to be a coach? I think the “aha” moment came when I was in my sophomore year of high school in St. Lucia. When I started at that high school, volleyball was not considered a competitive sport, and I hadn’t been seen anyone playing volleyball. It wasn’t until my sophomore year that a volleyball net just popped up on the

court, and I was drawn towards the game; it was a lot of fun. As I continued to play, I realized that I could get competitive at it and really enjoy the game. At that point, I gravitated towards the game from a more structured approach until I represented the team and we won the championship my junior and senior year of high school. What are some coaching achievements you’re particularly proud of? There are so many to choose from. I started off with my first opportunity to coach in high school on the island of St. Lucia where I coached the year after I left St. Mary’s College and I coached them to a championship. One person in particular who I coached was Jason Octave he excelled in the game, played Queens College on a scholarship and eventually went to Germany and Puerto Rico to play professional level. Knowing that I was able to start the process for him and provide that structural and technical training certainly is a deep appreciation for the effort that I put in. Seeing how far they’ve come is certainly what my contribution is about. I can also mention my club volleyball program we operate on Long Island, we have four teams, and overall they won 10 championships, so I think that was a great start and really led me to expand the type of training I provide and partnering with Aviator Sports as the volleyball Technical Director In your career as a coach have you seen interest in volleyball expand in the New York area? Yes, I certainly have. It’s increasing in numbers, and I think by expanding the opportunities in

partnership with Aviator Sports is has created an even broader scope in terms of the number of kids who have shown an interest in playing the game of volleyball in general. I think as the partnership strengthens the skill levels of the players will strengthen and that will be able to give them an idea of where they are heading based on how much they have learned. I think there is a lot more to discover regarding the partnership, we expect that the kids are going to be playing at a higher level, we encourage them to take the skills we instill. I think that is where they are going to really understand the game and understand each other as a team to build that development process to obtain championship status. Are there any unique skills you believe volleyball players need to possess? I think the focus even at the collegiate and national level is to build mental tenacity when learning and competing in the game. That comes from listening, following instructions acknowledging and looking at the demonstrations that we teach on the court. I believe that in the beginning, the kids will listen but if they don’t get a visual application of what the skill looks like it will be tough for them to execute it in the game. Being able to demonstrate each skill of the game is crucial. The partnership has certainly helped execute this accordingly. Based on that the listening and execution are the most important characteristics in becoming a competitive and good volleyball player.

With so few programs in the area, as well as limited court locations, Aviator Pickleball is a unique and inexpensive opportunity to learn the game, have some fun, and exercise while improving your skills. Combining court dimensions similar to badminton, paddles similar to table tennis and a light ball similar to wiffleball, Pickleball is a unique experience. Unlike tennis, the ball is served underhand to begin the volley, and a point is scored when a team allows two bounces without a return. Casual games are customarily played to 11 while tournament play ends with a score of 15 or 21.

The outdoor bar is open to the public on the weekends from May through the Fall. It is a full-service bar with TVs, music, picnic tables and food available. Aces Patio is also available to rent for events, gatherings, etc.

AVIATOR RAVES New York City loves Aviator Sports and Events Center, and they’re not shy about it. Check out some of Aviator’s most recent buzz. If you ever find yourself with a blank day on your calendar with your kids, friends or maybe bored alone. COME HERE. These guys have everything across the board that will fill your time with great fun. Once you walk in through their main entrance, on the left side is the ticket booth where you can buy the activities that you want. You can walk around and see what activities interest you. To your right, is a gymnastics gym that varies for all ages. I personally go to their adult free running course times which is on weekends 5:40-8:00 $16. There you can do all sorts of free running activities from the tumble mat, to the trampolines and FOAM PIT! They also have rock climbing, food court and arcade. They also have cheap indoor ice skating rink, and a hockey sport skating rink. There is also a gym, but i’m not sure if you need a membership. Staff very helpful, friendly, and most participate with activities depending on which one you choose.

Cheap fun that you can do solo or with multiple people. Great place.

Great place to spend a day with the whole family. Bunch of sports activities - ice rinks with rentals, indoor basketball and other courts, gym, rock climbing, gymnastics, outdoor soccer and football fields, etc. There are also arcades, very decent cafeteria, bar on a second floor. Multitude of professional sports for kids and adults - hockey, gymnastics, etc. For years, it is one of outrmost favorite family hang out spots. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!
