WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS We welcome all members and guests to our service today on this Trinity Sunday and Father’s Day. We are glad that you have come to worship at Calvary! We sincerely desire that everyone present will feel welcome in the Lord’s house. Please make a special effort to greet those around you in the spirit of Christian fellowship. As the red Ritual of Friendship pad is passed, kindly take a moment to write down your name, address and phone number. If you are our guest today, please fill out a visitor card and place it in the offering plate. Hearing aid devices are available in the narthex; one of the ushers will be happy to assist you as needed. During the prelude, you are invited to enter a spirit of reverence and quiet reflection as we prepare to worship the Lord. We kindly request that you silence all phones and pagers. A nursery is available for children under three during worship. Any of the ushers will be glad to show you its location. We thank Jessica Childress, Jan Trivette and Eric Vernon for their service today. The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Cheryl Weaver’s father, Frank Cagle, and Uncle James Cagle for Father’s Day, by Cheryl and John Weaver. The flowers in the narthex are given to the Glory of God on this Father’s Day in honor of all fathers and all those who nurture children, by the Board of Elders. We wish all fathers a most happy and blessed Father’s Day! Today we observe and celebrate Trinity Sunday. On this day, we reflect upon the Trinity: God in three persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The second organ recital in this year’s “Sounds of the Summer 2” series will be held tomorrow evening, June 16, here at Calvary at 7:00 p.m. Performers will include our own Mary Lou Kapp Peeples, Margaret Mueller and Raymond Ebert. Mary Lou will be performing works written by her husband and composer, Wade Peeples. Mrs. Mueller will be playing pieces by J. S. Bach (1685-1750). Ray Ebert will perform selections by Charles G. Vardell, Jr. (1893-1962; father of Winston-Salem composer Margaret Vardell Sandresky) and Wake Forest University composer-in-residence, Dan Locklair. A reception in Fellowship Hall will follow the concert. Approved free parking in the Rhodes Arts Center parking lot adjacent to Calvary will be available for this concert.

ADDITIONAL ANNOUNCEMENTS The Flower Ministry needs your help! Our congregation has a wonderful ministry that reaches out to our shut-ins, hospital patients, and those suffering illnesses or loss. This ministry is supported by the generosity of those who place flowers in the sanctuary and then donate the flowers to be parceled out into smaller arrangements. A small but dedicated committee volunteers to arrange and deliver these flowers. We would like to continue this ministry, but we need your help! Our committee is dwindling in number for a variety of reasons, and additional people willing to visit a shutin or someone in need of support from this congregation are necessary to keep it going. Won't you consider helping with this very meaningful and rewarding ministry? You can help by continuing to donate flowers to be delivered. You can also assist in setting up the vases that include a brief message from Calvary, arranging flowers or delivering an arrangement. The delivery can take place at your convenience by Tuesday of each week (we want to deliver fresh flowers!) You can volunteer to deliver to someone on the shut in list or you can deliver to a friend or family member from the congregation who is need of a visit and care! To offer your support for this vital ministry, please contact Frances Swing at 336-760-2624 or [email protected]. Volunteers will be needed for service at the Samaritan Inn on one night in the near future (exact date to be determined). A total of 6 people will be needed to serve on Calvary’s selected night. If you are interested in serving those less fortunate in this way, please contact J Trivette, Missions Committee chairperson. The Comenius Learning Series Summer Conference, sponsored by the Board of Cooperative Ministries, will be held the weekend of July 4-6 at Higgins Lodge at the Laurel Ridge Camp and Conference Center. This year’s program will be led by The Reverend Dr. Lynnette Delbridge, copastor of Castleton Hills Moravian Church in Staten Island, NY. The subject will be: “Living Wholly: Where Body, Mind and Spirit Meet.” More details and registration information may be found in the enclosed bulletin insert. Items for Sunnyside for June include canned beans, corn and other vegetables. Additionally, the Missions Committee asks all members to continue to contribute any canned food item as well as personal hygiene products (travel size). Just use the blue “Weekly Giving Baskets” in the narthex or the first floor white Sunnyside box.

Vacation Bible School 2014— Workshop of Wonders—Imagine and Build with God Welcome to Summer! And, to the WORKSHOP OF WONDERS - the theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School! From Sunday, June 22 to Wednesday, June 25 at Fries Memorial Moravian Church, our friends from Calvary, Fries, and Christ Moravians, plus some kids from Project New Hope, will combine to make this an awesome 4 night experience. We will begin with a Fellowship Meal each evening at 5:30 p.m., then move to classes and activities for all ages (nursery through adults!), concluding at 8:00 p.m. The Pre-School and Elementary Age kids will experience the wonders of God as they explore the Workshop of Wonders, focusing each day on a different “blueprint” of how to build, grow, and walk with God. They will study Ezra and Rebuilding the Lord's House; The Parable of the Mustard Seed from Matthew; Feeding the 5000 from the Gospel of John; and finally Walking to Emmaus from Luke. We'll open with Music, rotate between Bible Study, a cool Science Station, Recreation, Mission Projects, and finally close with a combined wrapup of music and prayer. The Youth and Adults will engage in a Mission and Outreach program led by Justin Rabbach (pictured above) of the Board of World Mission. The daily themes are planned to be similar to the lessons our younger kids will be participating in each evening. They are: Sunday – Building a strong foundation (Community) Monday – Little changes make a big difference (Advocacy) Tuesday – More than enough (Leadership) Wednesday – Seeing God in others (Compassion) Let's kick off our summer TOGETHER, building, growing, and exploring a strong foundation in Christ.

The Moravian Church Trinity Sunday June 15, 2014

God in three persons Each of the four Gospels expresses the change that Jesus brought into the lives of those who came in contact with him. Matthew’s Gospel is the most Jewish, comparing Jesus to Moses (as Moses led Israelites from slavery in Egypt, Jesus saves us from bondage to sin and self; as Moses brought the Ten Commandments, Jesus brings a new way of life, seen most clearly in the Sermon on the Mount [Matthew 5–7]) and quoting often from the Bible Jesus knew, which Christians call the Old Testament. At the heart of Jewish faith is monotheism, belief in one God. So it seems a bit strange that the last words of Jesus in Matthew’s Gospel refer to “the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,” the Trinity that has been a source of confusion and questions both to many Christians and to nonChristians. As Jesus sends his followers to “make disciples of all nations,” he reminds them of the different ways God has met them: as a loving Creator of all things; in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth, one who in life and death gives himself for others; as the Spirit who guides and nurtures those who seek to live as God’s people (and perhaps even those who do not). Surely this rich understanding of God has something for everyone. Moravian leader Count Zinzendorf spoke of the Holy Spirit as the church’s nurturing Mother. Moravians have generally, especially in our hymns, centered on God as we know God in Jesus. But Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all part of our experience of God. May we all find in the Triune God the richness of the one who loves us and wants to make us into the people who reflect that love, in love for our Creator and the creation and in love for one another. Hermann Weinlick, retired pastor, Minneapolis, Minnesota
