Company Profile and History

For more than a century the name of Sirocco has been associated with air movement technology. The business, founded in Vienna, Austria in the late 1800’s, is now one of Europe’s leading manufactures of fans, dampers, heat exchangers and dust extraction equipment. The company’s strategy has been to develop engineered tailored solutions to meet the needs of its customers. Sirocco has a reputation for quality, innovation in design and high levels of reliability in its products, coupled with excellent customer service. In 1888 William Beney, a dealer in machines teamed up with Robert Child to form a new company; White, Child and Beney. Based in Vienna the new business expanded by marketing a range of textile machines from Twedles and Smalley. Sales were developed in Austria and into Hungary. In 1903 the company formed a co-operation with Davidson in Belfast and introduced the range of radial and axial fans into central Europe. Business grew rapidly and in 1909 a new contract was agreed with Davidson in London, this formed the basis of a new manufacturing unit in Vienna for the production of fans and industrial machinery. In 1910 the business changed to a limited company and additional investment was made with the purchase on a 3,000 m² factory in the industrial area. Growth and change in ownership through the early 1900’s resulted in the textile machine manufacture being discontinued and a new focus on fan and heat exchanger production. New products such as the dust extraction cyclone and filter units were developed to meet the growing needs of industry. With the company’s strong manufacturing base, the strategy was to develop export business, growth was achieved and new applications for Sirocco products were secured in the paper, cement and industrial sectors. A lot of patents date from this period. Trading now, as Sirocco GmbH the company owned both an administration and a manufacturing plant in central Vienna, new market opportunities were developing in the 1980’s and Sirocco was able to establish a foothold in the road tunnel market supplying ventilation systems. Today Sirocco is recognised as one of Europe’s principal manufacturers of ventilation systems and has been able to expand its investment into Poland by establishing a modern manufacturing facility. The Polish facility was purchased in 2001 and is accredited to ISO 9001, the factory is well known for its capability to produce high quality stainless steel fabrications. A reputation for product quality and innovation together with high levels of customer service has been achieved over many years.

Product Portofolio

A high level of investment in research and development supported by external experts (Technical University, ...) has ensured that Sirocco is meeting the needs of its customers and is always at the leading edge of technology. The current range of Sirocco products is divided into five categories:

2.1

Industrial Fans

The Sirocco range of industrial fans includes both Radial and Axial types, impeller diameters are up to 3.00 mts (1,000,000 mcub/hr) with pressures up to 25 kPa and temperatures up to 650 deg C. Applications include power stations, paper mills, cement and chemical production. Over 200 fan models are available with over 600 configurations in a variety of materials and finishes offering the benefits of high efficiencies, rugged design and tailored to meet the customers requirements.

2.2

Tunnel Equipment

Serving the global tunnel market Sirocco products now include Fire and Smoke dampers, Closing Plate devices, Baffle plates, Throttling equipment and Defuses. These are manufactured in stainless steel and mild steel. High performance dampers form a major part of the company’s business, this is a specialised market where safety, performance and reliability are key issues. Fire, smoke and control dampers are important elements of tunnel ventilation systems and key parts for the preservation of life.

Sirocco dampers can be classified into three specific categories: Tunnel Roof Dampers (TRD): These, especially for the stringent requirements of European street tunnels developed multi blade design dampers are manufactured in 316TI stainless steel (14571). They incorporate mechanical sealing systems for low leakage rates, reach high levels of corrosion resistance and are operational at temperatures up to 400 deg C.

8

Heavy Duty Industrial (HDD): Manufactured in heavy gauge mild steel, these welded dampers are installed in fan systems as Separation and Shut Off dampers. The design includes multi blade as well as circular inlet vane types and is suitable for operating temperatures of up to 600 deg C, this type of damper is also suitable to applications in the industrial market and tunnels as well as power generation, marine and offshore.

High Integrity Dampers (HID): This new range of Sirocco High Integrity Dampers, type HID, have been designed to meet the stringent requirement of the more general ventilation marketplace, business is focused on the following sectors: ƒ ƒ ƒ ƒ

Industrial Tunnel and Metro Offshore and Marine Power Generation (Nuclear)

Development of the High Integrity damper was based on the new international standards of ventilation systems. The damper is standardized and uses a modular design. Generally HID dampers are manufactured in galvanized mild steel, but are also available in stainless steel. The new HID damper is available in different designs and configurations: as well parallel as opposed action enable to meet the exact requirement of the application. A wide choice of accessories and options turn the control dampers into self-locking fire dampers.

2.3

Heat Exchangers

Sirocco Heat Exchangers include both finned and ribbed and plane tube designs with options for coolers and prewarmers. An example of Sirocco’s capacity to engineer complete systems can be found in the rail industry. Air, gases, water, steam, condensate and oil can be used as the exchange media. Sirocco heat exchanges are all customised with single or multiple elements and removable chambers.

9

2.4

Dust Extraction Technology

The Sirocco product range includes, extractors, conveyors, separators and dust removal systems with volumes up to 150,000 m³ per hour and temperatures up to 250 deg C. Standard options include explosion proof and high temperature filters. Applications can be found in the, steel, wood, paper, chemical, mining and cement industries.
