2016 Canton Farmers Market The Canton Farmers Market (CFM) is now seeking farmers and vendors for 2016. The open-air market will feature farm fresh produce and baked goods, food specialty items, handmade soap, handmade chocolate, fresh-cut garden flowers, bedding plants, shrubs and herbs. We are very committed to our community and to the local farmers, artisans and downtown small business owners. BUY LOCAL AND SHOP LOCAL. We are located in Cannon Park by the gazebo on Main Street in Downtown Canton and are a Canton Main Street Program. MERCHANT CRITERIA The Canton Farmers Market accepts only locally grown GEORGIA quality products and handmade crafts and is open to the following type of products: • • • • • • • • • •

Vegetables and herbs Fresh Eggs Baked goods (fresh baked) Honey Specialty foods, oils, vinegars and spices Canned items Bedding plants and shrubs Locally grown plants and fresh-cut field and garden flowers Georgia arts and handmade crafts Gardening and Cook books

PRODUCER-ONLY MARKET POLICY • •

All products must be GEORGIA grown, raised, created and/or assembled by the vendor. An exception is granted for coffee and seafood. Specialty food products will be accepted based on what is available from Georgia farmers and businesses. Plant and animal products must be grown and/or crafted by the merchant (spun wool, beeswax candles, soaps, infused oils, wreaths, etc.) Paintings, sculptures, woodturning, blacksmithing, pottery, weaving and other items are also eligible.

All value-added products must be prepared for sale, packaged and displayed in accordance with proper local, state, and federal regulations. Each value added product will be determined on a case by case basis by the CFM committee and must meet all state and county health regulations. Product reselling is expressly prohibited. Vendors agree to annual, scheduled, on-site inspections by CFM representatives to insure the products sold at market meet with the CFM policies and quality standards. Refusal to allow inspections automatically disqualifies the vendor from selling at the market.

OPERATIONS • • • • • • •

Saturday May 28th and weekly through October, 8am-Noon. The market will operate rain or shine. Merchants are responsible for providing displays, tables, umbrellas and canopies as well as petty cash for customer change. Each booth space is 10’ x 10’. Freestanding 10’ x 10’ canopies are accepted and /or umbrellas with stands must be weighted not staked. Selling out of the back of pickup trucks is also encouraged for local farmers. You can set-up 90 min before the market opens. Electrical hookups are available on a limited first come/first served basis.

CFM reserves the right to limit the number of vendors selling in a particular value-added category. Paid, scheduled vendors who are absent from the Market twice without advanced notice may be removed from the Market for the remaining season without refund of fees. Vendors (excluding local farmers) must be present for the entire market day even if sold out of product. Vendors must unload in their designated area no later than ½ hour prior to opening time on the day of the market. No vendor may have a vehicle in the “market street” after that time with the exception of farmers who are selling out of the back of their pickup trucks. No vehicles or display breakdowns will be allowed until the CFM Manager closes the market. Vendors must display product pricing and prominently display the name of their business or farm. Vendors requiring electricity must note it on the application and provide a UL approved, outdoor-rated extension cord. No generators are allowed.

PERMITS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND INSURANCE •

Vendors have the sole responsibility of complying with all federal, state and local laws, regulations and requirements appropriate to the products sold by the vendor.



Vendors are responsible for possessing current federal, state and local permits, licenses and certifications appropriated to the products sold by the vendor. Upto-date copies of the documents must be on file with the CFM to be an approved vendor.

SAFETY RULES & FOOD REGULATIONS •

Vendors selling foods are responsible for knowledge and compliance with all federal, state and local rules and regulations. Keep in mind there may be special regulations regarding fresh meats, poultry, eggs, corn meal, shell fish, live plants, honey, pecans, onions, nuts, and other products. Vendors are ultimately responsible for ensuring all products brought to market are safe and unadulterated. Vendors are responsible for keeping their designated space clean at all times and are strongly encouraged to recycle and compost all discarded or waste materials. Water and ice in contact with meat and food product must not be drained at the Market. Children of vendors are welcome while under their supervision. No child under 16 may handle money without close supervision of a legally responsible adult. Smoking, weapons, fireworks and alcohol are not allowed in the Market area.

FEES AND PAYMENTS • • •

Advance payment of fees is required to reserve a space in the Market. All fees are non-refundable, regardless if vendor occupies the space. Cash is acceptable form of payment as long as payment is made prior to start time on market day. Spaces are on a first come basis.

Hold Harmless Clause All authorized vendors participating in the Canton Main Street Program, Inc. d/b/a Canton Farmers Market are independent operators and not partners or joint ventures and shall be individually and severally liable for any loss, personal injury, deaths, and/or any damages that may occur as a result of the vendor’s negligence or that of its employees, agents and associates. All vendors are required to sign the Hold Harmless Clause in this application. All vendors agree to indemnify and save Downtown Canton Farmers Market and City of Canton harmless for any loss, costs, damages and other expenses including attorney’s fees, suffered or incurred by Downtown Canton Farmers Market by reason of vendor’s negligence or intentional misconduct or that of its employees, agents and associates: provided that the vendor shall not be liable for nor required to indemnify Downtown Canton Farmers Market or City of Canton for the negligence of any of them or that of their servants, agents, employees or associates. Because no insurance is provided at Downtown Canton Farmers Market concerning vendors, each vendor must carry his or her own personal and product liability insurance. Furthermore, vehicle liability insurance is required to cover any damage caused to persons or property by a vendor’s vehicle.
