Using Big Data and Analysis to Save Fuel, Money and Lives ( Maybe)

Mr. Donald R. Anderson is the Assistant Director of Analysis for the USAF Air Mobility Command and Deputy Director of Analysis for the 18th Air Force. He leads a team of 27 analysts that provides Air Force leadership with insights and analysis of mobility issues which enable him to make strategic decisions that affect Air Mobility Command and the USAF. In 2013, AMC discovered that intentionally carrying 50,000 pounds of extra fuel on every mission into Afghanistan allowed those aircraft to offload their cargo and return to base w/o uploading fuel. This briefing will describe how the USAF intentionally sacrificed its fuel efficiency goals in order to save money, fuel, and lives.
