Building Automation System using LonWorks® technology Apice’s nodes based on LonWorks technology for the global automation of rooms (as Offices, Hotel Rooms and Others Residential Areas) are able to manage the following applications: 

Load activation Lighting; Socket; Heating system.

Security Fire alarm (smoke sensors management); Windows and door status; Bathroom alarm.

Temperature regulation Temperature probe; Setpoint regulation; Fancoil output.

Access control Mag or proximity card reader, Electric lock output.

LonWorks®Apice Building Management Terminals AC6400 General purpose I/O node; 6 insulated inputs, 4 power relay outputs. AC6400 is a general purpose I/O device equipped with 4 power relay outputs which can directly control 1 KW of resistive load at 220 VAC or 750 VA of reactive load (i.e. fluorescent lamps). It is used for lighting management and, in general, for room control (offices, common areas, etc…).

AC6400 APPLICATION EXAMPLES Example of Management office and common areas.

The above example illustrates a simple, effective and economical solution for building automation. In each office a motion detector enables energy consumption. The lights can be turned on either automatically, depending on the level of daylight, either manually through a switch. A button removes manually the occupancy status. This status would have been revoked automatically after a certain programmable period of inactivity of the sensor. In the absence of people, the outputs are off, resulting in significant energy savings.

EXAMPLE FOR HOTEL AUTOMATION Solution 1: Room management: enabling load, monitoring of power and bathroom alarm. Everything is monitored by PC.

Inserting a card in the card holder inside the room the output, which enables lights, sockets and the heating of the room, is activated. When the card is removed from the pocket, lights and loads remain activated for a programmable time. The bathroom SOS is supervised 24h/24h. When it is activated, an audible alarm is generated, the room of origin is indicated and the event is recorded in the historical archive, as well as its time of examination and termination.

Solution 2: Room management with the enabling of the loads, the monitoring of presence of a guest or of the cleaning staff and the ‘cleaned up’ state of the room. Everything is monitored by PC. This solution doesn’t provide the bathroom alarm.

The guest card or the card of the cleaning staff will activate the output that enables the lights and loads of room. The supervisor will report in a different way the presence of one or other users. When the card is removed from the pocket, lights and loads remain activated for a programmable time. After the passage of the cleaning staff, on the supervisor the room will be reported as ‘cleaned up’ room and this state will last until the next day.

Solution 3: Room management with the enabling of the loads, the monitoring of power, the bathroom alarm, the monitoring of presence of a guest or of the cleaning staff and the ‘cleaned up’ state of the room. Everything is monitored by PC.

AC6400 module is used to manage two rooms. The intelligent card holder identifies whether the user is the guest or the cleaning staff. In the first case the output that enables loads and lights and the output that enables the heating system will be activated, while in the second case, the heating system will not be activated. When the card is removed from the pocket, lights and loads remain activated for a programmable time. After the passage of the cleaning staff, on the supervisor the room will be reported as ‘cleaned up’ room and this state will last until the next day. If the room is not assigned, it remains in the state of ‘cleaned up’ room for a configurable number of days. The bathroom SOS is supervised 24h/24h. When it is activated, an audible alarm is generated, the room of origin is indicated and the event is recorded in the historical archive, as well as its time of examination and termination. Solution 4: Room management with the enabling of the loads, the heating system, the monitoring of presence of a guest or of the cleaning staff and the ‘cleaned up’ state of the room and the bathroom alarm. Check of the door state and the window state for security and automation.

This solution maintains the functionality of solution 3. If the window is open and the customer is not in the room, an intrusion alarm will be activated and if the customer is in the room the heating system will be excluded in order to save energy. The door contact is used to activate the output of the lighting and loads at the time of opening the door.
