IHHWC LEGACY PROJECT 24-28 SEPTEMBER 2011 FACTS & FINDINGS • The legacy project showcased a new housing concept that moved beyond 45m2 units to a 60m2 double story unit of which 8 were built using alternative building technologies. • The department of human settlements made it very clear that the costly block and mortar building system is a thing of old and it is time include environmentally sustainable elements such as thermal properties, passive energy solutions, solar water heaters, greening and vegetable gardens all which can be achieved more effectively using steel structures
