7 Hearing Aid First Aid Listening to hearing aids A stetoclip hearing aid listener allows a normally hearing person to monitor the performance of a hearing aid. Regular use helps the tester to recognise a reduction in sound quality and therefore start solving any problems. Connevans supply stetoclip listeners with a variable ‘roller’ attenuator. In addition, the tubing includes a damper which gives a minimum attenuation (approx 10dB) as a precaution. Attenuators have been available in various forms for many years. Digital hearing aids, many of which do not have a full volume control, make the using Connevans variable attenuator particularly important Connevans would like to acknowledge the help and motivation of the Ewing Foundation for Deaf Children for the introduction of the variable attenuator.

The standard stetoclip which Connevans supply is the type with foam ends because people generally find these the most comfortable. 15ml bottle containing 100% natural product which is based on sweet almond oil. It makes it easier to insert the earmould and is particularly good in preventing new patients from feeling irritation.

Combines elimination of the ear wax along with ear irrigation. The active ingredients in CleanEars are a natural compound extracted from olive oil which dissolves cerumen (ear wax), and mineral oil which then irrigates the ear, flushing away the dissolved earwax. 7 Hearing Aid First Aid Drying sets Because hearing aids are worn on the body, they absorb moisture which can cause corrosion or other damage to the electrical components. Drying hearing aids out overnight will improve reliability and keep them working well. Manufacturers report that perhaps half of the hearing aids they receive for repair are malfunctioning due to moisture or earwax. Other benefits are reduced instances of fuzzy or distorted sound and prolonged battery life. All sets are suitable for earmoulds and tubes as well as all types of hearing instruments. The Global Dry & Store II is the top of the range with both drying and germicidal features ‒ ideal for those wanting to keep their hearing aids in peak condition. The Phonak D-Dry also features a UV lamp which will help to reduce infections while the Zephyr has the excellent drying capabilities of the Dry & Store, without the UV lamp. The Oto-fresh drying beaker, Dry Cap Tub Set, Dry Cap bag and Phonak drying beaker are ideal for use at home & when travelling ‒ they all work in the same way, although we particularly like the Oto-fresh drying bag because of it’s good size.

Global Dry & Store II

An electric drying and cleaning box for hearing aids and earmoulds ‒ with UV-C light. The D-Dry is easy to use with 2 automatic programs ‒ a standard 3 hour program for normal levels of moisture and a more intensive 6 hour program for high moisture situations such as humid environments, sporting activities etc. Before both drying programs, the D-Dry will run an automatic 5 minute cycle of UV disinfecting to clean the hearing instrument. The UV-C light reduces the accumulation of germs and the risk of ear infections. Note: for safety, the UV light automatically shuts-off if the lid is opened.

More than just a very effective drying box, the Dry & Store II also dries earwax, kills germs and deodorises. The Dry & Store II uses a special germicidal UV lamp ‒ a short wave, low pressure, mercury vapour tube ‒ which kills microorganisms such as virus, bacteria and mould spores overnight while you sleep. Regular use can help to reduce repairs. The germicidal action also results in fewer itchy ears!
