F.H.BRUNDLE serving customers since 1889 Having served his apprenticeship as an ironmonger in Canterbury, young Frederick Henry Brundle moved to London to work for a company supplying the tea trade. It was not long before he spotted an opportunity and, with a loan from his father, set up a business supplying nails and ironmongery to the booming packing case industry. He also added to his range, horse shoes and farrier’s sundries. Throughout London, the name of F.H.Brundle became synonymous with quality and competitive prices. Frederick Henry Brundle
As trade has changed over the years, F.H.Brundle has adapted to meet the needs of their customers. As business moved outwards from the centre of London, branches were set up to serve customers further afield with an ever-widening stock range. As you will see from this catalogue we actually stock a huge range which we offer at consistently keen prices. Our five depots are geared to respond quickly, each holding large stocks of our product range and operating a vehicle fleet for fast, personal service. Our business is now run by Richard Brundle, the fourth generation and his son Michael. We are certain that we will be providing our customers with a quality service for many years to come.

Brundle welded mesh is manufactured from bright drawn mild steel wire to BS 1052. Electronically welded at every intersection. It is produced in self colour (lightly copper coated) and galvanised after manufacture to BS 443 or BS 729 on certain gauges such as 6g. Some specifications are produced from galvanised wire and stainless steel, types 304 and 316.

A low cost option where resistance to corrosion is not important. Some sizes are available galvanised. Mesh counts: 2-80. Heavy specifications made to order

This Nickel/Copper Alloy has the combination of strength with excellent resistance to sea water, acids etc. Mesh counts: 20-250 and Hollander specification.

Quantity and dimensions of rolls or pieces, generally cut from 48” wide rolls.
This Copper/Tin Alloy is strong and durable and will resist diluted acids and alkalis. Mesh counts: 30-200

COPPER
STANDARD TERMINOLOGY
TYPES OF WEAVE PLAIN WEAVE The most commonly used weave. Openings are square. Each weft wire passes alternately over and under each warp wire and vice versa. Warp and weft wire diameters are generally the same. Plain Weave meshes are available with apertures from 10.7mm (2 mesh) to 0.05mm (325 mesh). Suitable for many commercial applications.
MESH COUNT
The number of apertures or wires per lineal inch. Most meshes are square and will have the same count in both warp and weft.
WARP
The wire running lengthwise in a roll of mesh.
WEFT
The wires running across the width of the roll.
OPEN OR FREE AREA
The proportion of the aperture expressed as a percentage of the whole area.
SELVEDGE
The finished edge formed by looped weft wires at either side of the cloth.
TWILL SQUARE WEAVE Stronger than Plain Weave. Each weft wire alternately crosses over two, then under two, warp wires producing a diagonal pattern. The wire dia. for both warp and weft is normally the same. Twill weave is usually used to accommodate a heavier than standard wire diameter in association with a given mesh. Specifications finer than 300 are normally twill woven.

HOLLANDER WEAVE A Plain Weave with the warp wires of larger diameter than the weft. The weave is made up of a limited number of warp wires interwoven with the maximum number of weft wires which can be knocked up. This cloth is strong and firm and is most frequently used for high pressure filtration.

Steel L sections have been specially produced for framing expanded steel mesh and they offer several advantages. With two sections only many expanded steel meshes can be framed easily and with cost saving. There is less metal in the L sections than in U sections so they are more economical and are lighter.

With the L sections the fabrication of framed panels is easier and therefore less costly. The complete frame is welded together with mitred corners and the mesh placed in position and welded at intervals; all welding is inside the panel. The need for sliding the mesh into a gap and clenching is eliminated. The absence of a narrow gap enables protective finishes such as galvanising, paint or plastic coating to achieve total coverage. The L sections can be used with advantage wherever the framed panel is to be bolted to a structure with the rear face of the framing concealed.
