BROOKLYN LAW SCHOOL ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS New Scholarships for 2013 - 2014 THE IRVING FRIEDBERG SCHOLARSHIP The Irving Friedberg Scholarship was established by Eric Friedberg, Class of 1983, and his wife Margaret Friedberg, in memory of Eric’s father, Irving Friedberg, Class of 1948. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence and an interest in Internet Law, Privacy Law or Intellectual Property Law. THE KANTER KORNBLAU SCHOLARSHIP The Kanter Kornblau Scholarship was established by Stacy J. Kanter (BLS 1984) and Eric M. Kornblau (BLS 1984) on their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary in honor of their sister and brother, Leslie G. Kanter (BLS 1987) and David L. Kornblau (BLS 1980), and in loving memory of Janis L. Ettinger (BLS 1983). Leslie, David, and Janis each serve(d) as mentors to Stacy and Eric and, accordingly, this scholarship shall be awarded annually to a student with demonstrated financial need who has also demonstrated a commitment to mentoring others, either academically, professionally, or through extracurricular endeavors. LAWRENCE A. SUCHAROW, ’75 INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS LAW FELLOW A fellowship established by the firm of Labaton Sucharow LLP in honor of Lawrence Sucharow `75 on his receiving a 2012 Alumni of the Year Award from Brooklyn Law School. The recipient will be selected from among the International Business Law Fellows and will be designated as the Lawrence A. Sucharow `75 International Business Law Fellow.

All Scholarships DAVID B. AMPEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A fund has been established in honor of David B. Ampel, Class of 1949, by his late wife, Nancy, and his sons to provide an annual scholarship to a worthy student of the evening division who is employed while attending law school. CAROL H. ARBER SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Carol Arber, a former judge of the New York State Supreme Court and a friend to Brooklyn Law School. This scholarship is in honor of the late Carol Lefcourt, Class of 1967, who, along with Judge Arber, was a member of one of the first all-women law firms, Lefcourt Kraft and Arber. It is awarded to a student who has had an internship in a government office, with a judge, or for a public interest organization and is interested in pursuing a career focused on protecting the rights of the disadvantaged, or in protecting and preserving the environment. ASECA SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship created by the Association of Securities and Exchange Commission Alumni (ASECA) to be awarded to one or more deserving students at Brooklyn Law School who are current full-time or part-time employees of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. BERNARD S. BARRON SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by a bequest of Grace B. Cohen, in memory of Bernard S. Barron, to be awarded annually to a deserving student selected by the school "without regard to race, creed or color." BARSE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by David M. Barse, Class of 1987, in memory of his father, Lawrence P. Barse, Class of 1958, to assist an upper class student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the areas of securities or bankruptcy law, and shows exceptional promise in business or law. FRANK P. AND SYLVIA M. BASSIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, established by the Estate of Sylvia M. Bassin in honor and memory of Sylvia’s husband, Frank P. Bassin, Class of 1929, is awarded annually to one or more students in good standing and financial need.

GERALD BAYLIN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Estate of Gerald Baylin, Class of 1953, in his memory. Gerald Baylin, a World War II veteran and a successful New York City litigator, was renowned for his sharp intellect and legal skills. The scholarship is awarded to a student of outstanding ability with a background in science, math, or engineering. CHARLES J. BENSLEY SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the late Charles J. Bensley, Class of 1931, distinguished lawyer, businessman, and philanthropist, to be awarded to deserving students. THE MARGARET A. BERGER SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in memory of Professor Margaret A. Berger by her sons, David Berger, Class of 1989, and Joshua Berger, and family and friends. Professor Berger was widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading evidence and civil procedure scholars, including pioneering work in the field of scientific evidence. She was an outstanding teacher, mentor and inspiration to many, and a supportive colleague who contributed immeasurably to Brooklyn Law School over her 37-year tenure at the school. Beyond the law, she was a passionate reader, opera goer, Mets fan, gourmet cook, loving family member and treasured friend. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student who demonstrates exceptional achievement in the law of evidence or civil procedure. ELIHU BERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family and friends of Elihu Berman, Class of 1935, a distinguished practitioner in the field of real estate law. It is awarded annually to a student who has shown exceptional promise in the area of real estate law and who is in need of financial assistance. JOSEPH J. BERNSTEIN AND JUDGE JONAS H. BERNSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Martin B. Bernstein, Class of 1958, and Edwin A. Bernstein, Class of 1951, in honor of Joseph J. Bernstein, Class of 1919, and Jonas H. Bernstein, Class of 1951 to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated exceptional ability in the law of creditors' rights and who is in need of financial assistance. SAMUEL BERNSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Samuel Bernstein, Class of 1930, to be awarded to a worthy student who is in need of financial assistance.

MARTIN BESEN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family of Anthony Mazzone, and family and friends of Martin Besin, Class of 1954. Mr. Besin’s many professional, charitable, and civic accomplishments spanned a half century. Throughout his life and legal career, his colleagues and friends respected and admired him as a trusted counselor and as an unparalleled business lawyer. The Law School will award this scholarship annually to an exceptionally able student who is in need of financial assistance. DENNIS J. BLOCK SCHOLARSHIP Dennis J. Block, Class of 1967, a distinguished partner in the law firm of Cadwalader, Wickersham and Taft, established a scholarship fund in grateful appreciation to the Law School for its scholarship assistance during his days as a student. This scholarship is awarded annually to a worthy student who is in need of financial assistance. HERMAN BLOCK SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship for the benefit of students in need of financial assistance has been established in honor of the late Rose L. Hoffer, Class of 1954, and Philip Hoffer, Class of 1933, under the terms of the will of Herman Block, a devoted friend of Brooklyn Law School. MELVIN BLOCK SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship in memory of Mel Block, Class of 1950, a distinguished trial lawyer, awarded to a worthy student. HOWARD H. BORN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Estate of Howard H. Born, through the good offices of devoted alumnus Lawrence C. Schoen, Class of 1952, to provide financial assistance to a deserving student from the greater New York area. BERNARD "BINGO" BRANDT SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family, friends, and colleagues of Bernard "Bingo" Brandt, Class of 1933, awarded to a worthy student. JUDITH BREGMAN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Estate of Judith Bregman awarded to a member of a minority group in need of financial assistance.

NEIL AND NANCI BRODY SCHOLARSHIP FUND A scholarship fund established by a devoted alumnus, Neil Brody, Class of 1974, and his wife Nanci to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students. BERTRAM BRONZAFT SCHOLARSHIP Robin Bronzaft Howald and family and friends established this scholarship in loving tribute to Bertram Bronzaft, Class of 1961. It is awarded to a deserving student who has demonstrated academic excellence as an Edward V. Sparer Public Interest Law Fellow, a program that Mr. Bronzaft helped create. STEVEN BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship in memory of Steven Brown, Class of 1985, whose J.D. degree was awarded posthumously, has been established by his classmates. It is awarded to a deserving student. CARDOZO-PLATZMAN SCHOLARSHIP A fund has been established by Michael Platzman, Class of 1930, to assist two meritorious upper class students in completing their law school education at Brooklyn Law School. Each recipient will be known as a Cardozo-Platzman Fellow. EVE CARY LEGAL WRITING SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by family, friends, and members of the Brooklyn Law School community in memory of Professor Eve Cary, whose love of good writing, and knowledge about how to achieve it, inspired her students for nearly a quarter of a century. It is to be awarded to a student who demonstrates exceptional interest and achievement in legal writing. WILLIAM BROWN CARSWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the late widow of William Brown Carswell to be applied annually toward payment of tuition for an evening division student selected by the faculty on the basis of scholarship and need. MINDY HYMOWITZ CELLA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Aaronson, Rappaport, Feinstein & Deutsch, LLP in memory of their associate, Mindy Hymowitz Cella, Class of 1991, to assist a nurse, a former nurse, or a person with experience in a health related field in pursuing a legal education.

ROBERT T. CHERRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Anise Cherry, the wife of Robert T. Cherry, Class of 1950, a distinguished practitioner in the area of workers’ compensation. It is awarded annually to a student who has shown exceptional promise in the area of tort law and who is in need of financial assistance CLASS OF 1911 SCHOLARSHIP The Class of 1911 has established a scholarship to be awarded in the name of this class to a student of outstanding ability who is in need of financial assistance. CLASS OF 1933 SCHOLARSHIP Based on a matching grant program established by Ira Belfer, an alumnus of the Class of 1933, a scholarship is awarded by the class to a student of outstanding ability. CLASS OF 1954 SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Philip Hoffer, Class of 1933, in memory of Rose L. Hoffer, Class of 1954, to assist a third year student of outstanding ability. CLASS OF 1959 SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, established by a member of the Class of 1959, is awarded to a deserving firstyear student in need of financial assistance. CLASS OF 1968 EVENING DIVISION SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, established by members of the evening division of the Class of 1968 in memory of the members of the class who have passed away, is given to a worthy student in the evening division. CLASS OF 1975 SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, established by members of the Class of 1975, is awarded to a deserving student. JUDGE NICHOLAS COFFINAS SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship given by a dear friend of Brooklyn Law School in appreciation of the educational benefits provided by the School to his children. It is awarded annually to the student deemed worthy by the Dean and the faculty.

CHARLES S. COHEN REAL ESTATE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established by Charles S. Cohen, a distinguished member of the Class of 1977. It is to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the areas of real estate law, particularly in the course in property. JUDGE MAX E. COOPER SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established in memory of the Honorable Max E. Cooper, Justice of the Supreme Court, Kings County, to be awarded to a student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in moot court proceedings. REGINA AND JOSEPH CREA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by alumni and friends, in memory of the beloved Regina Crea, wife of Professor Emeritus Joseph Crea, Class of 1947. NATHAN DECHTER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family of Nathan Dechter, Class of 1936, to assist a worthy student who has served the community through work in a Law School clinic. HERBERT AND NORMA DICKER SCHOLARSHIP Herbert Dicker, a distinguished member of the Class of 1955, a member of the Brooklyn Law School Board of Trustees, and an outstanding litigator and partner with the law firm, Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker LLP, has established this scholarship to be awarded annually to one or more deserving students. LOUIS L. DICKMAN SCHOLARSHIP Louis L. Dickman, a distinguished graduate of the Law School, Class of 1931, has established a scholarship fund in grateful appreciation to Brooklyn Law School. A scholarship is awarded annually to a student of outstanding ability. GERALD DIRECTOR SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family and friends of Gerald Director, Class of 1959. His many professional, charitable and civic accomplishments spanned a half century. Throughout his life and legal career, his colleagues and friends respected and admired him as a trusted counselor and as an unparalleled trial lawyer. The Law School will award this scholarship annually to a student who shows great promise as a courtroom advocate, with interests in broader civic, charitable or educational pursuits.

THE ELBAUM FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Steven S. Elbaum, Class of 1974, and Lawrence S. Elbaum, Class of 2005, to be awarded annually to a worthy student in need of financial assistance with a preference for a student who is an immigrant or a first-generation U.S. citizen. JOAN L. ELLENBOGEN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established in memory of Joan L. Ellenbogen, Esq. by Marcia C. Goldstein, Esq., colleagues, family and friends, in grateful recognition of her distinguished career and extraordinary contributions to true equality for women both inside and outside the legal profession. The scholarship is awarded to two deserving students who possess Joan’s drive, persuasiveness and commitment to the law. Each recipient will be known as a Joan L. Ellenbogen Fellow. CHARLES EVAN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established in memory of Charles Evan, Class of 1943, distinguished international lawyer, awarded to an outstanding student who exhibits an aptitude for the study of international law and who will be designated the Charles Evan Fellow in International Business Law. FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP The faculty awards a scholarship to a student whose scholarship demonstrates special interest and proficiency in the law and whose conduct and personality give evidence of leadership and promise in the legal profession. HERMAN FAGAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND A scholarship established in honor of Herman Fagen, Class of 1942, through the assistance of his son, Leslie Gordon Fagen, to support a deserving student in need of financial assistance. GERTRUDE AND LOUIS FEIL FUND This fund was established by Jeffrey J. Feil, Class of 1973, in loving memory of his parents. Each year, four extraordinary students will be named Gertrude and Louis Feil Scholars. HOWARD S. FINKELSTEIN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by a devoted alumnus of the Law School, Howard S. Finkelstein, Class of 1959, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of his graduation.

SUSAN G. AND MARTIN A. FISCHER SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, established by Susan G. Fischer, a former Assistant Librarian, and Martin A. Fischer, an alumnus of Brooklyn Law School, Class of 1964, is awarded to a student in need of financial assistance to continue his or her education. CHARLOTTE B. AND MORRIS FISHMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP These scholarships were established by the estate of Charlotte B. and Morris Fishman, Classes of 1947 and 1953, in grateful appreciation for the education they received at Brooklyn Law School. They are to be awarded annually to a deserving female student and a deserving male student. JEFFREY D. FORCHELLI SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by a friend and colleague of Jeffrey D. Forchelli, Class of 1969. Recognizing Mr. Forchelli’s extraordinary talents as a lawyer who not only has excellent skills, but also practices with the greatest integrity, the scholarship is awarded to a deserving student who has exemplified these traits during law school and shows promise to do so during his or her career. RICHARD FRANK SCHOLARSHIP A fund established by a distinguished alumnus, Richard Frank, Class of 1956, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students. IRVING S. AND HARRIETTE H. FREEDMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the late Irving S. Freedman, a distinguished and loyal graduate of the Class of 1931, and his wife, Harriette H. Freedman, to be awarded annually to a deserving student. ALBERT FRIED SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship, established by J. Michael Fried, Class of 1975, in memory of his father, Albert Fried, to be awarded to a financially worthy upper class student who has demonstrated academic excellence. JEFFRY H. GALLET MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family and friends of Jeffry H. Gallet, a distinguished United States Bankruptcy Court Judge in the Southern District of New York and a member of the Class of 1967, to be awarded to a worthy student who has shown exceptional promise in the area of bankruptcy law or family law.

SIMON GALLET SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Cooperative Housing Movement in honor of the late Simon Gallet’s meritorious service to the movement. MICHAEL O. GITTELSOHN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Michael O. Gittelsohn, Class of 1966, a distinguished member of the law firm of Finkelstein, Levine, Gittelsohn, and Partners, who believes that the hallmark of a lawyer’s trade is his honesty, integrity and the trust he establishes among his peers. It is awarded to a student who best exemplifies these qualities and who has demonstrated superior knowledge in the area of professional responsibility. JUDGE I. LEO GLASSER SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Margot Sundheimer Foundation, made possible by Richard Schneyer, Class of 1971, to be awarded to a deserving student. Margot Sundheimer and her parents escaped Nazi persecution and fled to the United States, where they were able to live their lives in freedom, under the rule of law. This scholarship honors Judge I. Leo Glasser, Class of 1948, for his distinguished career as a federal district court judge, former dean of Brooklyn Law School, and a revered professor and scholar. Judge Glasser’s career epitomizes a lifelong dedication to public service and the rule of law. ARTHUR GLUCKMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship was established by the classmates, friends and family of Arthur Gluckman, whose untimely death tragically cut short his promising legal career. JUDGE SIDNEY GOLD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship offered by Lottie Stillerman Gold in memory of her husband, Judge Sidney Gold, Class of 1932, to an evening division student who has completed his or her second year and who in the opinion of the Dean, evinces promise of distinction in the practice of law. HYMAN AND BESS GOLDSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Neil S. Goldstein, Class of 1967, in honor of his parents, Hyman, Class of 1937, and Bess, to assist a student who is experiencing – as the Goldsteins did when they were students – the burdens and benefits of attending law school while married. SYLVIA W. GOLDSTEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established as a bequest by Sylvia W. Goldstein, Class of 1944, to a deserving upper class student in need of financial assistance. Mrs. Goldstein served as the corporate vice president of the musical publishing company, Boosey and Hawkes, until her retirement in 1993.

GREENFIELD EISENBERG STEIN & SENIOR LLP, SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by a distinguished trusts and estates law firm, in honor of its alumni members. It is awarded to a worthy student who has demonstrated particular ability in the field of trusts and estates and who is in need of financial aid. EVELYN GROSS SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship was established in memory of Evelyn Gross through a generous bequest from her estate. Because of her financial circumstances, Ms. Gross was unable to attend law school. She wanted to provide for other young women to have the opportunity to do so. The scholarship is awarded to a deserving and meritorious female student. JEFFREY A. GUTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by alumnus Irving Gutin, Class of 1954, and his wife, Barbara, in memory of their son, Jeffrey A. Gutin, will provide scholarship support to a deserving student. SOL AND WILFRED J. HALPERN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Wilfred J. and Norma Halpern Foundation, in memory of Sol Halpern, Class of 1954, and in honor of Wilfred J. Halpern, Class of 1968, to be awarded to a worthy evening division student who is attending the Law School in preparation for a career change. A. EDWARD HAMMERMAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the estate of A. Edward Hammerman to be awarded by the Law School to a deserving upper class student who has demonstrated outstanding performance in the field of estates and trusts. WILLIAM RANDOLPH HEARST SCHOLARSHIP FOR MINORITY STUDENTS A scholarship established by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation, to assist minority students in need of financial aid. VICTOR J. HERWITZ SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship has been established, through a generous bequest by Harriet H. Herwitz, in memory of her husband, Victor J. Herwitz, Class of 1932, a respected litigator. The scholarship is to be awarded to a student of outstanding ability who is in need of financial assistance. HENRIETTA AND STUARD HIRSCHMAN FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP The Henrietta and Stuard Hirschman Foundation offers a scholarship to a student of exceptional ability who could not attend Law School without financial assistance. 11

PHILIP HOFFER SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship awarded by the late Philip Hoffer, Class of 1933, to an exceptionally able student who is in need of financial assistance. ROSE L. HOFFER SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship awarded by the late Rose Hoffer, Class of 1954, to an exceptionally able student who is in need of financial assistance. THE HUMPHREYS FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Debra G. Humphreys, Class of 1984, and her husband, David, to be awarded annually to a deserving female student who has shown exceptional promise in the areas of either tax or corporate law. This scholarship was set up in the hope that it will help Brooklyn Law School to attract and reward superior students, who will in turn demonstrate generosity to the School. IOTA THETA LAW FRATERNITY SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF DANIEL STILL The Iota Theta Law Fraternity offers a scholarship in memory of Daniel Still to an exceptionally able student who is in need of financial assistance. RONALD A. JACOBSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family, friends, classmates and colleagues of Ronald A. Jacobson, Class of 1959, in his beloved memory, to assist a worthy second or third year student. LUCIE S. JUROW SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship fund, established by family and former students, in honor of Lucie S. Jurow, Class of 1930, the late Brooklyn Law School Librarian, to benefit a worthy student in need of financial assistance. ROBERT A. KAHN FAMILY LAW SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship created by Robert A. Kahn, Class of 1959, to assist a student who has demonstrated exceptional interest and achievement in the study of family law. PAUL EMERY KERN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the Paul Emery Kern Foundation in honor of Paul Emery Kern, Class of 1935, to be awarded to a worthy student.

MURRAY KLEIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Thelma S. Klein in loving memory of her husband, Murray Klein, Class of 1929, to be awarded annually to a worthy student. JOAN C. KOVEN SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the family of Joan C. Koven, a distinguished graduate of the Class of 1974. After a successful career as a private practitioner, Joan taught family law at BLS and served as Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs until her retirement in 1995. Joan was widely admired for her style, grace, wit, professionalism and wise counsel. The scholarship is awarded to a women student who exemplifies these traits. JUDGE SHIRLEY WOHL KRAM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship, endowed by the family and friends of Judge Shirley Wohl Kram, Class of 1950, celebrates her long and distinguished career in public service as a United States District Court Judge, Family Court Judge, and Attorney-in-Charge of the Narcotics and Mental Health Division of the Legal Aid Society. Her career was a model for generations of women students that followed in her footsteps and accordingly this scholarship is awarded each year to a deserving woman student who exhibits and interest in public of government service. LABATON SUCHAROW LLP SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship and internship created by the firm of Labaton Sucharow LLP to be awarded to a first year minority student who has demonstrated academic excellence in the first semester at Brooklyn Law School. BARBI AND WARREN T. LAZAROW SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Warren T. Lazarow, Class of 1986, and his wife, Barbi Lazarow, to be awarded each year to a deserving part-time student who, as Warren did, is working while attending Law School. CHARLES M. AND ANITA K. LEE SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Mrs. Anita Lee, in memory of her beloved husband, Charles M. Lee, Class of 1937. It is awarded annually to a deserving student. Mr. Lee was a respected attorney in private practice, who also held many positions in government, including serving as Counsel to the Bronx Borough President and as the first Director of the Firearms Control Board, and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York.

JOEL M. LEIFER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A fellowship has been established by the family and friends of Joel M. DAVID H. PERLMAN SCHOLARSHIP David H. Perlman, a distinguished graduate of the Law School from the Class of 1964, has established a scholarship fund in appreciation to the Law School. The scholarship will be awarded annually to a worthy student in need of financial assistance. CLARE R. PETTI SCHOLARSHIPS A scholarship fund established by the Estate of Clare R. Petti, Class of 1954 a New Jersey politician and activist. A self-appointed advocate of the public interest, she showed great concern for middle-class families throughout her career and was a trailblazer for women attorneys. At least two scholarships will be awarded each year to deserving women students. VITO J. PITTA LABOR LAW SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Vincent F. Pitta, Class of 1978, in memory of his father, Vito J. Pitta, who devoted his career to advocating for the rights of workers, to assist an upper class student who has excelled in the area of labor law. MARTHA PRINCE SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the late Dean Emeritus Jerome Prince, awarded annually to the woman student who enters her senior year with the highest average at the end of the previous spring semester. GERALDO RIVERA SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by television news journalist and talk-show host Geraldo Rivera, a member of the Class of 1969, to provide financial assistance to a student of Hispanic background who shows great promise in the study and practice of law. SARA ROBBINS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by family, friends, and members of the Brooklyn Law School community in memory of Professor Sara Robbins, who for over 20 years served as Director of the Law Library, to be awarded to a deserving student who emulates her generosity of spirit, commitment to excellence, and dedication to the Law School. MICHAEL ROMANOFF SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Michael Romanoff, Class of 1958, to honor, and in memory of his parents, Nat and Ida Romanoff, who gave him the inspiration and opportunity to attend and study law at Brooklyn Law School. This scholarship is awarded to a student who has exhibited exceptional promise, and a desire to pursue the area of real estate law and/or real estate management/development. BARRY AND EVELYN SALZBERG SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Barry Salzberg, Class of 1977, and his wife, Evelyn, to provide scholarship support to a deserving student. BARRY AND EVELYN SALZBERG/DELOITTE FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP Barry and Evelyn Salzberg and the Deloitte Foundation have established a three-year, full tuition scholarship at Brooklyn Law School to be awarded each year to one entering student of minority background with an interest in accounting, economics or business. The Barry & Evelyn Salzberg/Deloitte Foundation Scholarship also includes mentorship with Salzberg and his partners. Stein, Class of 1967, and his wife, Bernice, in memory of Howard’s parents. With the belief that a legal education is the best training with which to affect change, the scholarship is awarded to a deserving student with a demonstrated interest in public interest law. LARRY AND FRAN SUCHAROW SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Fran and Larry Sucharow ’75 to provide an annual award to a deserving student who demonstrates academic excellence. Mr. Sucharow, one of the country’s leading plaintiff’s securities lawyers, built a major law firm in this field with the skills and knowledge he gained at the Law School. His wife’s and his desire is to help give another student the opportunities that a fine law school education provides. Because he was an evening student, preference is to be given to a part-time student. THE SOL G. SUMMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship created by the family of Sol G. Summer, Class of 1961, to celebrate his life as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and to honor his career as an outstanding and selfless member of the legal community. This award will be given annually to a student of the evening division, who has demonstrated scholastic merit. BRUCE DAVID SWERDLOFF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship offered in memory of Bruce David Swerdloff, Class of 1980, whose untimely death curtailed a promising life and legal career. Established by his family, it is awarded annually to an able and worthy entering student in need of financial assistance, as determined by the Dean and faculty. HENRY AND MARY SYMEL SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by Howard H. Stein, Class of 1967, and his wife Bernice, in memory of Bernice's parents, Harry and Mary Symel. In the spirit of Harry and Mary's belief that education and knowledge were the best path to a fulfilled life and to help others, this scholarship is awarded to students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to bettering society through law. JUDGE DORIS A. THOMPSON AND JUDGE EDWARD THOMPSON SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established by the late Judge Doris A. Thompson, a distinguished graduate of the Class of 1938, and her late husband, Judge Edward Thompson, a distinguished graduate of the Class of 1936, to be awarded annually to a deserving woman student. JUDGE WILLIAM C THOMPSON SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship celebrates the long and distinguished career of William (Willie) C. Thompson, Brooklyn’s first African-American State Senator who served as a Justice of the Second Department of the Appellate Division in New York for over twenty years. To help open doors of opportunity for African-American men, the Judge William C. Thompson ’54 Scholarship will be awarded annually to a worthy African-American male student.

It is awarded annually to the first year student who, in the opinion of the faculty, submitted the outstanding brief in the Legal Writing Program and has thereby evinced great promise for excellence in the legal profession. HARVEY FREDERICK WACHSMAN SCHOLARSHIP A fund was established by Harvey Frederick Wachsman, Class of 1976, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students. BENJAMIN WARD SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship established in memory of Benjamin Ward, Class of 1965, whose exemplary career as New York City Police Commissioner and Corrections Commissioner, as well as several other high-level government positions, was an inspiration to countless individuals interested in public service. It is awarded to a deserving student who had a career in law enforcement or who continues to work in law enforcement while pursuing a legal education. JUDGE MOSES M. WEINSTEIN SCHOLARSHIP A fund has been established in his honor by the family and friends of the late Honorable Moses M. Weinstein, retired Associate Judge of the Appellate Division, Second Department, and member emeritus of the Brooklyn Law School Board of Trustees, to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students.
