Slip Resistance Testing

The HSE states “Floors need to have enough grip for pedestians to walk safely” but what does this mean? Grip is measured as ‘Co-efficient of Friction’. For safe pedestrian walking on the level this should be 0.36 or higher as measured on the pendulum portable skid tester as recommended by the HSE and UK Slip Resistance Group to the British Standard 7976. We offer a comprehensive slip testing service including a full report detailing methods and results. If the floor does not meet regulations we can produce a tailor-made schedule of treatment which upon completion will ensure the floor will meet required standards. Whether it is a one off test or an on-going approach we tailor our service around the needs of our client. For new projects, our in house laboratory allows us to conduct offsite tests of floor samples for a small fee to ensure all new floors will meet HSE regulations once laid – saving time and money in testing afterwards. After a full on site assessment is completed a report is compiled for the client showing the full testing method and results.

Pool Surround and Changing Room Maintenance and Restoration

The correct maintenance of a pool surround and changing room is essential in providing your clients with a clean, sanitary and safe enviroment. General ‘mop and soapy’ water cleaning of the changing room and pool surround areas, generally tends to move dirt around rather then remove it from the surface. This very quickly leads to a film building up which consists of a combination of detergent residues, body fats and in many cases calcium. This film is then extremely difficult to remove through general cleaning methods and will leave the floor looking tired and dirty and, in most cases, slippery. In 90% of cases we visit with a slip problem it is generally down to surface contamination and poor maintenance.

Sliptech can remove the existing build up and return the floor to its original state and then provide the correct procedures to maintain it in a safe and clean condition.

Generally our expert professional cleaning team will come and carry out a deep clean to the area out of hours, so as not to disrupt the general running of the centre and aim to leave your flooring in an ‘as new’ condition. Once the floor is returned to its best we can then issue cleaning guidelines to maintain the floor in a safe and sanitary way, as well as the option to conduct training with your staff to ensure that correct procedures are put in place. We also offer a specialist range of cleaning products that are specifically designed to tackle these build ups in an efficient and cost effective way.

Natural Stone Restoration With our high standards of craftsmanship, expertise and restoration skills we can restore your natural stone surfaces back to their original and beautiful appearance.

We are committed to utilising the most suitable products and latest advances in technology sourced both from home and abroad to ensure that your natural stone is treated and maintained in the most effective and efficient way. Natural stones – especially calcite-based stones such as marble, travertine and limestone have a delicate chemical composition that may adversely interact with general household detergents, abrasives, acids or alkali solutions which will damage the integrity of any natural surface. For natural stone and almost any other porous building materials, including porcelain, we now exclusively use and recommend a new range of sealing products developed in Australia as these have proved to be, by far, the most effective and long lasting and carries a 15 year performance warranty. For new build or renovation projects we can offer advice and services to provide long term solutions to maintain the natural beauty of the stone. For newly laid floors it is essential to establish the correct sealing and cleaning measures as soon as the surface is laid.

Specialist Builders’ Cleans The end of a major construction project always raises issues and many of them are with regard to the final finish and general look of the premises. By its very nature the building process will always leave behind a lot of dust, grout residue, paint, silicon and general building dirt which needs to be cleaned off, especially from the floor surface. These are difficult to remove completely using the ‘mop and soapy water’ method. The general result is that residues are left on the surfaces, especially the floors, which in turn quickly attract contaminants and leave the area looking dirty and unsightly. By using a range of specialist cleaning products, methods and machinery Sliptech guarantees the removal of these residues ensuring that the area looks its sparkling best for the hand over and also leaves a clean and maintainable floor for the client. If required, Sliptech can offer the client onwards maintenance guidelines as well as slip testing of the floor surfaces to certify them as ‘fit for purpose’, something that is becoming more and more relevant in today’s litigious society.

Vinyl and Rubber Floor Cleaning Vinyl flooring is often viewed as a cheaper and less problematic alternative to tiling in many pool surrounds and changing rooms. This said, however, they still need to be maintained in the correct manner to prevent them becoming both unsightly and dangerous in terms of slip resistance. If body fats or detergent residues are allowed to form on the surface this will lead to a dirty film occurring that is difficult to remove by general cleaning. Our specialist teams are well trained in removing this film and returning the slip resistance to its original condition.

Rubber flooring offers a safe and durable surface for many pool surround and changing room areas, especially for children and disabled areas. Whilst it offers a lot in terms of safety, due to its porous nature, it is sometimes difficult to clean. Often, in pool and hard water areas, calcium starts to build up on the surface and this tends to leave a white film over the surface. If this then mixes with body fats and surface soiling this white film will start to turn brown and the areas will become very dull and possibly unsanitary. By using specialist products and machinery Sliptech can remove this build up thereby restoring the floor to its original ‘as new’ appearance and can then offer advice on how to maintain this appearance.

Tile Grout Colouring

Light grout colours such as ivory are commonly used to create light and vibrant floors. Initially, when the grout is clean, sharp and crisp the floor looks stunning but through day-today living it can start to discolour and, left long enough, can actually turn black. There is an answer – colour sealing.

Colour sealing eliminates variations in grout colour caused by stains, uneven colour lots, curing, fading or damage. It provides a water tight, stain resistant, durable protection and with its built-in mildicides ensures sanitation for years. Best of all, colour seal greatly reduces ongoing maintenance - being completely impervious to moisture, dirt and grime cannot penetrate the sealed surface. Harsh chemicals can be replaced by neutral cleaners. Colour sealing completely eliminates the costly process of removing grout from tiled surfaces.

Sealing

Our many years of experience in anti-slip treatments have identified the need to seal treated floors effectively. Anti-Slip treatments are designed to add grip to hard surfaces and as a resultof the increased friction, increased contamination is likely, thereby reducing the effect of the treatment and inturn makingfloor maintenance more difficult. An effectively sealed floor makes onward maintenance so much easier, whilst avoiding contamination build-up thereby keeping floor surfaces safe. Whilst there are many excellent sealants available for porous surfaces, Drytreat is the only one we have found that seals effectively for the life of the treatment without impacting on the co-efficient of friction (slip resistance), so vitally important to our clients. Sliptech is a distributor and fully accredited applicator for Drytreat products.

The kit will cover up to 10 square metres and consist of a Pre-treatment, Anti-Slip Activator and a Cleaner/Degreaser for maintenance. The kit has been specifically designed around the “end user” for small domestic applications, where our professional service is either not required or not economically viable.

Deck-Grip Inevitably decking will weather and start to look past its best. A simple application of Deck-Grip anti-slip coating provides a slip resistant surface for external decking. This dramatically improves the slip resistance of the decking whilst breathing life into the tired wood by enhancing its natural colour and grain. Coverage is approximately 20m2 per 2.5 litres pack per coat.
