Daar word jaarliks verskillende aktiwiteite aangebied bv. kampvuuraand in die winter, markdag in die lente en ouma-en-oupa-dag in die somer. Elke jaar word ’n atletiekbyeenkoms gehou sodat daar gesonde sportmansgees gekweek kan word. Liefdadigheids projekte ten bate van Jakaranda Kinderhuis en “Reach for a Dream” word ook ondersteun. Die skool bied twaalf buitemuurse aktiwiteite van top gehalte aan en jaarliks gedurende November word daar nie minder as drie konserte asook ander aktiwiteite in die skool se teater gehou nie. Ouerbetrokkenheid is baie belangrik by die skool want elke kindjie is uniek. Die skool maak gebruik van ’n uitgebreide opvoedkundige program en stuur jaarliks met trots ’n goed afgeronde groep kindertjies na graad een. Spoortjies spog met ’n eie kinderteater en gedurende die verskillende produksies wat aangebied word besoek kindertjies van ander skole ook die teater. English Bible for the Deaf •

The Bible Society of South Africa recently began a new translation project for a very special group, English-speaking deaf people. It is hoped that when this Bible is finished, it will make the Word more accessible to deaf people not only in South Africa, but in the rest of Africa as well. This translation, in deaf-oriented English, is aimed especially at people who were born deaf and those who use Sign Language. Because people learn spoken language primarily through imitation and verbal communication, people who are born deaf have specific language and reading needs. For most deaf people, Sign Language is their mother tongue and they would no doubt prefer a visual Bible in the Sign Language they understand. Apart from the fact that a visual Bible would be an exceedingly expensive project, there is not one Sign Language used by everyone. In South Africa alone, 12 different Sign Languages have been documented with at least a further 150 in Africa. Another problem is that the Bible text does not always lend itself to the use of Sign Language. It is

difficult then to make the complete text accessible to the Deaf through the visual medium. Many schools for the Deaf in South Africa and Africa use English as the medium of instruction, but unfortunately the existing Bible translations are difficult for most deaf people to understand and this can easily cause confusion. Research shows that the reading proficiency of most deaf adults in South Africa is comparable to that of 8 to 10 year-old hearing children. Only a small percentage of deaf learners ever complete Grade 12. This Bible then will be translated so that the majority of deaf people who receive their education in English will understand it. A limited vocabulary as well as many footnotes and illustrations will be used to explain certain concepts in the text. Some R800 000 is needed in the coming year for this project to continue. Behalwe vir die fisiese werk wat die uitgee van die koerant betref wil ons almal verseker, ons as ’n Erdekruikspan bid elke werksdagoggend saam vir elke adverteerder, verspreider, agent, skrywer en leser, ja vir elke individu wat by Die Erdekruik betrokke is. Dit is vir ons belangrik en ons vertrou die Here dat dit goed sal gaan, dat daar getuienisse sal wees dat God se seën ervaar is, dat wonderwerke gebeur het, redding gekom het maar bo alles dat Hy verheerlik sal word. In Nehemia 13 lees ons van sy hervorminge en vers 14 sê “…en delg tog my liefdesdiens nie uit wat ek aan die huis van my God en aan die instellinge daarvan bewys het nie.” Bykans al die artikels in hierdie uitgawe kom van bedieninge en individue wat met opheffing of ’n liefdesdiens besig is. Ten spyte van foute en tekortkominge sluit die hoofstuk af op ’n positiewe noot met vers 29, 30 en 31…“Dink aan my, my God ten goede!” Met die opdrag om bedieninge bekend te stel, en Erdekruik wat die mondstuk is, is dit ook ons gebed vir almal in bedieninge. Verder het die Here vir my persoonlik Nehemia 4:14, 15 en 20 vir 2012 gegee. :15 “ dink aan die grote en gedugte Here, en veg vir julle broers, julle seuns, en dogters, julle vroue en julle huise.” Die opdrag is, veg in 2012 vir mekaar dan vers 20 “…onse God sal vir ons stry” We as the vessels of clay must know right from the start of 2012 that we are prescious in the sight of our Lord. The jar might not be covered with gold or silver at the outside but the treasure inside is what counts. With salvation and righteousness as a free gift this treasure inside us is most valuable and priceless. We pray that everybody connected with The Vessel through 2012 will realise how precious they are in the sight of God and that the treasures on the inside will be more and more applied to magnify our Lord, as already can be seen in the articles in this first issue of 2012. The mystery of faith •

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV) This is considered the definition of faith, and rightly so. But it really reveals what faith is and not how to have faith. Unless you know that you have faith, how are you to enjoy the end result of faith, which is the “things hoped for”. “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” Hebrews 11: 6 (NKJV). Let us see what Holy Spirit is telling us. Firstly we see that faith approaches God, “he who comes to God”. You are to trust that He is the one who can give you what you desire and acknowledge Him as the solution, by going to Him (Matthew 9:26-29, 15:22-28 and Mark 10:46-52). However, the second truth is, you must believe that He is. This is precisely how the Lord revealed Himself to Moses in Exodus 3:14 (NKJV) “And God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you. ‘” You must believe that God “is”, not “will be” or “has been”,but that He is”. Right now He is your healing, your provision or whatever your need. He is present and we connect with Him in the present, this is why Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is…” You connect with God in the present, not by studying the past or looking to the future, but right now in this moment you go to Him and receive what you need. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” Hebrews 13:8.

Thirdly you must believe “… that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” God desires for us to ask Him and He wants to answer us. This is why He sent his Son Jesus Christ into this world, to reveal Himself to us and qualify us to seek Him and receive from Him. God is the initiator, but requires a response from you. To seek God is to be in the Word and this is the only way to know who He is and what He has promised to do for those who believe in Him. Romans 10:17 (Wuest’s) “So then, faith is out of the source of that which is heard, and that which is heard is through the agency of the Word concerning Christ.” Consider the words of Jesus in John 6:2829 (NKJV) “Then they said to Him, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.” Only through the Word of God can you know the love of God, the promises of God and that you qualify to receive all of them by faith in Jesus Christ. But you are to “seek diligently”. According to Thayer’s Greek Definitions this means to (1) to seek out, search for (2) to seek out, i.e. investigate, scrutinise (3) to seek out for one’s self, beg, crave (4) to demand back, require. You dig it out like someone who mines for gold or drills for oil. You know it is there and you go looking for it, expecting to find it. The mystery of faith lies in its simplicity. It is so simple and so easy to have faith – just dare to believe that God is who He says He is, and that He loves you.

Kona, unsinkable Mommy Brown Kona Brown from Johannesburg was recently crowned Mrs United Nations South Africa 2012. After working in the corporate world as a successful senior business analyst, Kona left to start her family in 2006. With the luxury of raising her children in a safe family environment, she felt God make her more and more aware of those who do not have the love of a family or the safety of a home. That is when she became involved with an initiative for Child Headed Households run by the social outreach arm of her church, Rosebank Union Church. She has since become the project manager of this project that focuses on assisting orphaned and vulnerable children in Child Headed Households in the Alexandra Township. They currently have over 30 families in the project, assisting over 100 vulnerable children who have been orphaned by AIDS and who now have to take care of themselves and their siblings – basically children raising and caring for children. Through a variety of initiatives Kona and her team aims to

move the children out of the victim cycle and assist them in finding a more hopeful and better future. Kona and her brother, Elvis Blue, the popular Idols Season 6 winner, work together in running the Elvis Blue Music Academy in various disadvantaged communities across South Africa. Through the music academy disadvantaged and orphaned children get an opportunity to learn to play the guitar under professional tuition. In the year of her reign, Kona aims to be a spokesperson for her causes, as well as to take every opportunity to raise funds for causes that share her passion for orphaned and vulnerable children. Kona believes in her calling and platform to inspire other woman and specifically moms to understand their responsibility to raise their children with a knowledge and compassion for the unique and often heart-breaking circumstances present in South African society. Kom ons, ons omskep probleme in geleenthede en boweal gee ons aan die duiwel geen plek in ons gedagtes nie.

The SPCA gives advice on protecting your pets

Microchip your pet It is estimated that over 25% of pets go missing in their lifetime and most are never reunited with their owner. There are many reasons that animals get out of a property – from panicking during a thunder storm, digging a hole under fencing or even jumping a wall or fence. Most of these lost animals end up at the local animal pound or animal welfare organisation, such as the Tshwane SPCA. Without identification that carries the contact details of the owner, it is very difficult to match lost animal reports with found animals. A perfect example is that over the recent festive season we received over 50 reports of missing “tan and white” Jack Russells! Tshwane SPCA encourages pet owners to microchip their pets. A microchip cannot be removed or fall off like a collar. Dog and cat microchipping is a simple procedure – the

microchip, which is about the size of a grain of rice, is injected by the vet under the skin between the shoulder blades. No anaesthetic is needed and the insertion of the microchip is similar to receiving an injection. The details of the animal and owner are recorded on a national database and when scanned the microchip number is recorded and matched with the details on the database. Besides reuniting the animals with its owner quickly, a microchipped animal also reduces expenses and workload at the animal welfare organisations. In the case of an animal being stolen, unfortunately no method is perfect to ensure the safety of the animal. The best thing is to protect your animal and be a responsible pet owner – ensure your property is secure, have the animal wear a collar with identification, as well as have a

She felt like a queen and thought “is this the kind of life I can have?’ She had never been served like that before and it made her feel special after being used to a life of poverty and abuse. She was given money and told that she could buy whatever clothes she wanted. This was her introduction to a life of prostitution. Unfortunately the story told here is the painful truth for many of those ‘working the streets’, and should she ever opens her heart to you, you will find she doesn’t wish it on her worst enemy. cluded, is the psychological damage that is part of this lifestyle. Research shows us that the PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder) with prostitutes is even higher than those being in the Vietnamese war. Many sit with chronic PTSD and a state of emotional numbness and are not aware of it – hence the connection with drugs. How does one protect yourself if you don’t have feeling? This lifestyle damages her physically, psychologically,intellectually, socially and spiritually in a very big way. Hospivisie benodig vrywilligers HospiVisie bied berading en Geestelike sorg in hospitale en steun baie swaar op die hulp van vrywilligers om die pasiënte te besoek. Enigeen wat na die voorbeeld van Jesus geroepe voel om in liefde en sorg uit te reik na siek en weerlose mense in die hospitaalomgewing kan ’n vrywilliger word. Na afloop van die basiese kursus word ’n hospitaal ID kaartjie uitgereik waarmee vrywilligers vrylik in die hospitaal kan rond beweeg. ‘n Werker kan dan ‘n program inpas en hospitaalbesoek doen - letterlik enige tyd van die week in die algemene hospitaalsale, bv Onkologie, Pediatrie, Ortopedies, Chirurgie en vele ander, of in die Trauma-afdeling werk. Creation Ministry News



On a farm in Hekpoort things are moving forward. The creation ministry is in its infancy in South Africa but on Sunday 11th of December a farm was dedicated to the Lord for the specific purpose of a number of initiatives to advance the Kingdom in the light of creation. About ninety people attended the service and many were encouraged by the new development. People were challenged to go forward each with their own initiatives no matter what it was. The farm will in time be a place where invited people for example school children can learn the truth about origins in a hands on format. It will be much like Dinosaur Adventureland in the USA. The north-eastern parts of South Africa, as well as parts of Mozambique, were struck by tropical storm Dando in January. Beginning as a cyclone over the Indian Ocean, it manifested itself in the Hoedspruit as gentle rain. There was little or no thunder and lightning, just rain which conti nued for about 36 hours. Over 500 mm was recorded in places – about a normal year’s rainfall in a day. The result was flooding. The normally placid Blyde river became a huge raging torrent which in places swelled to over a quarter of a kilometre wide. During and after the deluge, photographs taken from helicopters showed the extent of damage: houses inundated so that only the roofs could be seen, others including vehicles were washed away. Many roads were blocked by washouts: huge channels were dug out by water. Many bridges were damaged or their approaches were washed away. Some people lost everything. Who today remembers the cyclone Eline which struck in 2000? Only 12 years ago. Of course the rocks are not eternal, and their time will come. There is only one who is eternal, and that is our Creator. Floods and storms and chaos and tragedy remind us how fragile our lives are compared to God. Verander in die liefde van Christus •

Sou jy graag ’n liefdes transformeerder wou wees? Daar bestaan talryke geleenthede vir enige persoon wat die begeerte het om te ontwikkel in ’n liefdes transformeerder. Vier van die onderwerpe wat gedurende 2012 bespreek sal word is “die liefde wat God vir ons het, hoe lief ek God het en hoe lief is ek vir myself en my medemens. “God het die wêreld so lief gehad dat Hy sy enigste Seun gegee het, sodat dié wat in Hom glo nie verlore sal gaan nie, maar die ewige lewe sal hê,” Joh. 3:16 Voordat jy God met jou hele hart, siel en verstand lief kan

hê nie, het jy nodig om te begryp hoe groot die liefde is wat God vir jou het. God het in die eerste plek vir Jesus gestuur om vir ons die Vader te wys en ons te leer wie ons reeds is. Tweedens het Hy sy Seun gegee om vir ons sondes te sterf. Indien ons, ons identiteit in Hom vind en Hom leer ken, sal ons die plek bereik waar ons Hom sal lief hê. Die liefde van God is onmeetbaar. God is so ongelooflik lief vir die mens, maar God het vir die mens ’n wil gegee om te kan kies. God se hart is seer oor elkeen wat Hom nie kies nie, maar God sal ons nooit forseer of dwing om Hom lief te hê nie. Dit is die mens se eie keuse! God sal net die mens bly liefhê en altyd daar wees vir die mens, want dit is Sy natuur, om lief te hê. God is liefde en God wil hê dat die hele wêreld moet besef wat die waarde van Sy liefde vir die mens

is. God het ons almal onvoorwaardelik eweveel lief. Niks wat jy doen of nie doen nie sal maak dat God jou meer of minder sal lief hê. God voel oor moordenaars en verkragters nes Hy oor predikante en pastore voel. God haat sonde, maar is lief vir sondaars. “En toe Jesus dit hoor, sê Hy vir hulle: “Die wat gesond is, het nie ’n dokter nodig nie, net die wat siek is. Ek het nie gekom om mense te roep wat op die regte pad is nie, maar sondaars” Mark. 2:17. God se liefde is te groot vir ons begrip en wil die harte en lewens van mense verander. Om te erken dat God jou liefhet is die kragtigste stelling wat enigeen kan maak, veral as jy verander het in God se liefde vir ander. “Daarom moet jy die Here jou God liefhê met hart en siel, met al jou krag.” Matt. 22:37–39 Dit is die mees belangrike en eerste gebod en die tweede wat

daaraan gelyk staan is dat jy jou naaste moet liefhê soos jouself. Deut. 6:5 Lev. 19:18 Jesus vertel ons hoe ons geskape is om liefde te skep. Ons is geskape om mekaar lief te hê net soos die Vader ons liefhet. Deur Sy Seun vir ons te gee om op Golgota vir ons sonde te sterf het Hy die gehalte van Sy onvoorwaardelike liefde getoon. Niks wat ons ooit kan doen sal ons skei van die liefde van God nie. Jesus is die uiterste uitdrukking van God se liefde. Deur Jesus as ons Saligmaker te kies, kies ons ook om in hierdie kwaliteit van liefde te leef. Mense wat nie inChristus leef nie, sal ander mense nooit tot die volle kapasiteit liefhê nie. God is liefde en sonder God sal ’n persoon se geestesgawes tot liefde altyd onbevredigend wees. Om die liefde van Christus vir ander te wees is die beste gevoel in die wêreld. Uitreike aan die voorpunt van sendingwerk Die “Harvesters International Ministries (H.I.M.) / Bibles for Believers (B4B)” is uitreike wat hoofsaaklik kerkplantingsorganisasies is. Hierdie uitreike is verreweg die mees effektiewe manier om die Groot Opdrag uit te voer. “Bibles for Believers” is deel van H.I.M. en voorsien Bybels aan gelowiges in gemeentes wat self nie Bybels kan bekostig nie. Hulle plant tans kerke in Malawi, Tanzanië en Zimbabwe en het ’n

goed ontwikkelde HUB struktuur in Malawi. In Tanzanië en Zimbabwe is dit nog in ’n aanvangsfase. Voorheen is in Zambië en Mosambiek baie kerke geplant en leraars opgelei. Aktiwiteite geskied altyd in samewerking met plaaslike kerke, wat deur H.I.M. geplant is, om die ryp “oesveld” te bereik. Baie mense in daardie gebiede kom uit Moslem-, Katolieke- en Tradisioneel- Christen- agtergronde. Volgens die werkers is daar steeds

uitdagings. Belangstellendes word uitgenooi om vanjaar een van drie geleenthede mee te maak; nl. na Malawi vanaf 29 Maart tot 10 April 2012 teen R4 500 per persoon of Tanzanië vanaf 22 Julie tot 4 Augustus teen R8 000 per persoon en na Zimbabwe van 28 September tot 7 Oktober teen R3500 per persoon. Daar was by Derick de Lange nooit enige twyfel nie: God wou hom gebruik. Hy het egter eers ’n moeilike, gevaarlike ompad gestap… totdat hy gesmeek het vir ’n tweede kans. God het tydens sy hoërskooljare drie keer kragtig gesê dat Hy wou hê Derick moes voltyds vir Hom werk. Hy het besluit om teologie te studeer, maar sy ouers se egskeiding het veroorsaak dat hulle hom nie finansieël kon onderhou nie. Sy toekomsdrome was daarmee heen, hy was verbitterd, het vervreemd geraak van sy pa en ’n rebellie teen God ontwikkel. Hy is weermag toe en het radikaal verander. Hy het straf begin drink, ’n ou molestering het begin spook en hy het onder “verkeerde” invloede geland en deel van hulle satanistiese sel geword. Mettertyd is hy ook aan dwelms bekendgestel en seks was ’n groot deel van die bose onderwêreld. Derick se keerpunt het gekom toe sy blindederm gebars het en sy dikderm tydens die noodoperasie

raakgesny is. Hy het die dokter hoor sê dat hy dit nie sal maak nie. Op daardie oomblik het hy besef hy is op pad hel toe. Hy het God gesmeek vir nog ’n kans. Toe hy drie dae later vir die eerste keer wakker word, het die dokter dit as ’n wonderwerk bestempel. God het ook ’n tasbare teken vir hom agtergelaat - die lelike operasiemerke. Hy het op baie kort kennisgewing plek gekry by sowel RAU en die AGS se Teologiese Kollege. God het vir sy studies finansieël voorsien. Hy het intussen ook vrede gemaak met sy ouers en het selfs die vreugde van sy pa se bekering beleef. Tydens sy studiejare is sy pa in ’n motorongeluk dood en Derick kon hom begrawe. In dieselfde week is twee van sy beste vriende ook skielik dood. Weens al die emosionele spanning en hartseer het sy verlowing ook op die rotse beland. Derick het egter bly glo dat God vir hom ’n groter doel het. Vandag werk hy onder sataniste, kinderprostitute en dwelmverslaafdes. Hy het selfs vir ses maande lank in een van Pretoria se arm woonbuurte gewoon om nader aan die uitgeworpenes van die samelewing te kom. Hy het geglo dat hy met “stukkende” mense moet werk en dat hy ’n tweede kans gekry het. Hy is voltyds pastoor en het sewe CD’s op sy kerfstok. Vir meer inligting kontak hom by 014 717 5785.

Daardie tyd is dit ook een van die groot feestye in Israel, naamlik Peshach (Paasfees). Wanneer jy in Israel plekke soos die see van Galilea, die doopplek by die Jordaan en die Ou Stad in Jerusalem besoek, verstaan jy die Bybel soveel beter. Hoewel ons al die belangrikste plekke in Israel sal besoek, is dit nie ons primêre doel nie. Ons wil graag mense begelei om ontmoetings met God te hê en dieper
