Introduction Self-confidence can be built by people ideas, reflections, and even random thoughts; however, people do not have aware of them to gain the benefits (Goldsmith, 2010). In order to learn how to build up and enhance my confidence efficiency, I have chosen a book is named 100 ways to boost your self-confidence: believe in yourself and others will too and written by Barton Goldsmith to provide a wide variety of practical ways to boost readers’ confidence and be beneficial to the career development to readers. This essay will be discussed personal development plan which is based on the information of the book and linking those concepts of the book to alleviate my weakness and abilities.

Personal development plan 1.1 Reflection on the concepts I learnt from book 1.1.1 Build a supportive structure A supportive structure is able to calm our apprehensive feeling down as soon as possible. Monitoring our mental health and making our emotional stability is extremely essential when people are easily to get nervous. Therefore, the book suggests readers to build a supportive structure to support and maintain our self-confidence even we feel suffering.

1.1.2 Realize acquiring self-confidence is easy The book is providing different ways to convince and remind readers that we have haven lots of accomplishments already. For example, looking at any diploma or certificate of achievement we have, cooking a lovely meal and share to our family, organizing our closet and get rid of anything that no longer fits, all those little but

meaningful things are our own achievements and we should be proud of ourselves. (Goldsmith, 2010).

1.1.3 Leave negative environment to maintain your self-confidence The book mentioned that, “negative environments where people are harsh or even abusive to one another are toxic” (Goldsmith, 2010, pp.20); therefore, we could choose leaving the environment in an attempt to avoid sticking in the negative environment. To my mind, although leaving the bad environment may help us to stop to rebuild our confidence; we may probably lose a chance to strengthen our willpower as well. Consequently, self-defeating is also can be a pressure and encouragement to move readers on and do better in next time.

1.2 Evaluation of the book concepts of my personalities and abilities 1.2.1 Do more proactive preparation Well preparation can make you have confidence to grasp every challenge and opportunity. In fact, I am fond of doing well preparation in every situation like presentation or doing individual assignment. Therefore, the book mentioned a really good point which is sparing no pains to use my power of emotions to get everything in my life flowing in the direction we would like them to. For instance, doing enough preparation and make all the inevitable question I were afraid of easy to answer, and answering those hard questions to increase the ability I have. Eventually, self-confidence can be contributed to doing some proactive preparation because I have already used to putting in a full day and behaving as a success and having confidence to handle any ad ho circumstances (Goldsmith, 2010).

1.2.2 Believe in myself from the talents I having Admiring all the talents we having is beneficial to us acquiring self-confidence. In fact, I always look down on my ideas and thought due to the fact that I have less achievement in my life and need to study significantly hard to get an appropriate result; I therefore feel inferiority all the time. However, I actually have lots of accomplishments like will graduate in my top up degree in the approaching year, got A grade in my projects before, cooked a delicious meal to celebrate my mom birthday. Hence, confidence can be built in many ways when I know how to appreciate myself and discover the essence of my personal power eventually.

1.2.3 Build a supportive structure to support myself I am a neuroticism person who feeling nervous and insecure easily; therefore, monitoring my mental health and making my emotional stability is extremely essential. In connection with the book concepts and my personalities, building a supportive structure is a key to enhance my self-confidence. For example, write down five things I feel confident about: my last appreciation from my parents, the A grade of my pervious project etc.; finding your friends who can support my emotionally or even join a group to support myself when I getting anxious and distressed. This supportive structure is able to prop up myself when I am agitated and maintaining my self-confidence even I feel suffering . 1.3. Impact of my personal weakness on my work 1.3.1 Provide more appreciation to others The more appreciations to colleagues, the better working environment I gain. With a sense of introverted and limited social dominance, I am not usually appreciating and

expressing admiration for my colleagues. In the wake of reading this book, I know that appropriate appreciation is able to stimuli others believing in themselves and boosting their confidence. On one hand, this manner can help my colleagues respect me and giving confidence through thankful comes back to me in different ways; on the other hand, having good relationship with my colleagues is also good to have an enjoyable and pleasing working environment.

Hence, I am looking for some

practical ways to make me find people advantages easily and appreciate others more.

1.3.2 Start to cooperate with others One of my biggest frailties is fond of doing things alone and causing I do not know how to collaborate with my others. My boss told me that I tend to find solution alone and reject to seek assistance despite the problems cannot be tackled by myself, which caused wasting too much time sticking in the problem. In fact, I think a capable person is supposed to do anything well independently and inducing me lacking a sense of cooperating with my colleagues. However, this book is bringing a new and impressive concept to me. “When you do it with other people, you might call it brainstorming and it turns out to be a concept that you totally resonate with.” (Goldsmith, 2010, pp.41) Considering the concept of asking assistance is nothing but delighting my thoughts by others and many works are impossible to do it by myself and cooperating with others is important in my future career. I, therefore, decided to alleviate the weakness and finding aid when I am hindered in some problem.

1.4 A feasible action plan for improvement To alleviate my weakness likes not being able to appreciate others’ efforts; I would like to do some improvements. For example, when my group mates present their opinions in doing a group project, I can write down some positive things about their suggestions and admiring their opinions during discussion in the future. Consequently, I believe that the weakness which is not appreciate to other could be improved through my actions and can embark on admiring others efforts. In order to measure the result of can I appreciate others more, I will collect the feedbacks from my group mates about do they agree that I improved the weakness.

Besides, I am going to learn some techniques to cooperate with others. To commence with, doing something which I am not familiar with like bakery and cooking. For instance, finding someone to teach me how to bake a cake in this year’s semester break and understand that cooperating with others is an amazing thing from the bakery experience. Apart from learning cooperating with people is enjoyable, I also plan to partake in some collective activities from camping in the semester break to learn how to collaborate with others. Collective activities have to work together in an attempt to accomplish some missions and I believe that those activities are able to teach me how to cooperate with others and learn the significance of seeking assistance when I need. After cooking and participating collective activities with others, I will ask my group mates who cooking or cooperating with me in the activities that do they feel happy to cook and cooperating with me. Asking feedbacks induce me understanding more my performance during cooperation with others and any else factors I can improve while working with others.

Conclusion Self-confidence is extremely significant for people’s personal and career development, so we need to know how to build up and boost own confidence efficiency. For the self-development part, admiring all the talents I have and building up a supportive structure for me to realize pressure can be contributed to enhance self-confidence. Besides, my career goal which is doing in marketing and advertising aspect can be contributed by good self-confidence because self-confidence is beneficial to me having confidence to tackle the possible problem I may come across in the future, like realizing pressure based on the suggestions of the book which helps me be able to work in an intensive working environment.
