Software License Agreement This software relates to security. Limit access to authorized individuals. This software contains provisions for setting security passwords. Establish appropriate security levels and set passwords before allowing operating personnel access to this

Introduction Building Integration System (BIS) is a private Internet building management solution. It combines access control and building management systems into a single user interface. You can also manage intrusion, CCTV, fire, and other building systems using BIS. Developed using OPC (Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control) standards, BIS instantly integrates OPC-compliant systems.

About this Manual This guide covers topics including software and hardware installation, and logging into BIS for the first time. After the installation is complete, you can configure BIS 2.2 using the BIS Manager configuration software, as described in the BIS Configuration online help.

Installation BIS 2.2 is delivered on DVD. Refer to Section 2.3 Minimum System Requirements for Server and Client, page 7, for server system requirements. NOTE! When installing BIS 2.2 on a PC running Windows 2000,

XP, or Server 2003, you must be logged onto the PC with Administrator rights before beginning the installation. The Administrator account must have a password.

Hardware Installation Install and connect subsystems that interface with BIS after installing the BIS 2.2 software (refer to the hardware documentation).

3.1.1

BIS Server PC Installation Configure the BIS server computer hardware and the designated operating devices and peripherals. If you are installing BIS on your own PC, install all the required hardware modules and components. NOTE! For more information, refer to:

Section 2.3.1 Software and Hardware, page 7 for minimum PC requirements.

After installing the BIS 2.2 software as described in this section, configure the system hardware and cabling. Refer to Section 3.3 Network Setup, page 16.

Connect external devices (for example, printers). Create the connection between the BIS Server computer and the system hardware. Refer to Section 3.6 Installing Connected Hardware, page 71.

Dongle A dongle protects BIS against unauthorized use. The system cannot operate without this dongle.

The dongle does not protect the BIS configuration program. You can load and edit a configuration and use BIS Manager without installing a dongle at the BIS server. Use Configuration

→ Exe-

cute on the System start/stop tab, or use the Configuration tab. USB or Parallel Interface Install the dongle on the BIS server using a USB or LPT1 parallel interface. It must remain installed during operation. CAUTION! If the LPT1 interface also forms the connection to a printer, the printer must always be on. Turning off the printer

!

causes problems with reading program information. If this happens, BIS does not function. If you must turn the printer off (for example, for maintenance), disconnect the printer cable before turning the printer off. Dongle on Initial Delivery A license file (BIS_V22_license_.crp), which matches the dongle hardware, is delivered on its own CD. After installing BIS, use the Configuration Manager to import this file into BIS. Refer to the License topic in the BIS Configuration online help.

NOTE! View the dongle contents and the licensed features from the BIS Manager on the server by selecting the Licence tab.

Dongles for Systems with Updated Features If you add new features to the system after installation, you do not need a new hardware dongle. You will receive the new license file from Bosch either on an installation disk or as an e-mail attachment If you want to begin the configuration process before you receive the new license file, place the BIS Configuration Browser in Demo Mode. Refer to the Enabling New Features topic in the BIS Configuration online help.

A parallel port dongle with an connected printer is not turned on or temporarily turned off.

In such cases a single error Is generated for the administrator at server level.

In addition each client logged on receives notification of the situation via a client dialog window every 10 seconds. The dialog reports how much of the 72 hour period remains. As the available space is limited the more recent notifications eventually overwrite the oldest ones.

Software Installation Install the BIS software on the server PC. Refer to Section 3.4 Installing BIS Software, page 25.

Network Setup For specific network configuration information, refer to your network administrator. NOTE! Before installing BIS, set the correct time zone for the

Use BIS Manager to stop the system.

Start the BIS system again.

General Information The BIS server must be connected to a network, and it must have an IP address and a unique name. Optionally, you can dedicate one network for the connected security subsystems, and another network for the connected client PCs.

Network Topology Every computer added to the network must have an Ethernet network card.

3.3.3

Data Exchange BIS uses only the TCP/IP network protocol.

3.3.4

Conditions Satisfy the following conditions to operate the Windows network and the TCP/IP protocol: –

You must uniquely identify each computer. Use sequential names such as SYSTEM_1 and SYSTEM_2 as the standard names. Refer to Section 3.3.7 Checking the Network Settings, page 20, for information on changing the computer name.

The TCP/IP addresses of the individual computers must also be unique. Refer to Section 3.3.7 Checking the Network Settings, page 20, for information on changing the TCP/IP addresses.

Shut down the computer and turn off the power supply. Install the network card in an available PC slot and connect the LAN cable.

Power the computer on and let it boot normally. The card is detected automatically by the operating system.

Checking the Network Settings NOTE! The windows shown in this manual are from a Windows XP PC. The windows, and some steps, vary slightly with other operating systems.

Power on the remote server PC and allow it to boot. 1.

Ensure that the PC has a fixed IP address and a fixed subnet mask.

If the remote server is configured as a DHCP Client, ensure that you have a WINS or DNS server on your network, and that the DHCP lease never expires.

Confirm that the network is functioning correctly by using any of the following commands from a command prompt:

•

ping: This command is available only if the TCP/IP protocol is installed.

•

ping local host: This program checks communications with its own computer.

•

ping or ping : This program checks communications to the other computer.

•

arp -a: This program lists other computers after contact with them is established.

•

ipconfig: Lists all current TCP/IP network configuration values (IP address, subnet mask, and so on).

CD-ROM (for Windows XP, Windows 2000, or 2003 Server, depending on the operating system installed on the BIS PC). The BIS installation procedure might require this CD-ROM. 1.

Insert the BIS DVD into your DVD drive and follow the instructions on the screen. If the installer does not start automatically, use Windows Explorer to view the contents of the DVD, then double-click setup.exe.

NOTE! Install BIS 2.2 on a local drive. Do not install it on a network drive.

By default, the installation wizard installs the BIS MgtS directory at the root level of the C: drive. If this location is acceptable, click Next>. If you want to select a different installation path, click Browse.

Use the BIS feature selection window to identify which BIS features you want to install. The default installation includes all BIS features. Click the drop-down menu to the left of each feature that you do not want to install, then click Next>.

NOTE! Select only the engine(s) and connection(s) that you purchased from Bosch. Without licensing other features are not useful and increase the used disk space.

The BIS installation wizard installs an instance of the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE) for the BIS event log and the Security Engine (if you choose to install the Security Engine). This database is a separate named instance. Enter a name in the Instance Name field, then click Next> to continue.

The BIS installation wizard installs an instance of the Microsoft SQL Server for BIS and if needed the ACE. Enter a unique name for each engine in the Instance Name field, then click Next> to continue.

Upgrading an Existing BIS Installation Perform this procedure to upgrade an existing BIS installation without losing the current data and configuration files. 1.

Back up your BIS installation files, or create an image of the hard disk that contains the BIS installation. For information on backing up the BIS installation files, refer to Section 4.1.1 Back Up a BIS Engine Installation, page 87.

Close all BIS windows, and stop the BIS server.

Insert the BIS DVD into your drive and perform the installation procedure as described in Section 3.4.1 Installing BIS for the First Time, page 25. (Upgrades are always installed in the directory of the former version.)

When you reach the BIS Select Features screen, select the new BIS 2.2 features to install, then finish the installation as described in Section 3.4.1 Installing BIS for the First Time, page 25.

Configuring Third-Party Firewall Software All third-party firewall software provides a different user interface. Regardless of which firewall software you install, you must allow: –

all outbound traffic to localhost on BIS ports 25800 through 27050 (TCP).

all inbound traffic coming from localhost to BIS ports 25800 through 27050 (TCP).

all inbound and outbound traffic between the remote and

traffic on ports 26091, 26099, 26100, and 26098 (TCP) if

login servers, using ports 25922 and 26202 (TCP). using the SysTracer application. –

all inbound and outbound DCOM traffic to and from the BIS server using ports 5000 through 5004 (TCP).

all netbios traffic to and from the BIS server using ports 137 (UDP), 138 (UDP), 139 (TCP), and 445 (TCP).

all outbound traffic to localhost using HTTP port 80 (TCP).

all outbound traffic to localhost using port 7351 (TCP, dllhost).

The ports used on the sender PC is undefined, so restricting the sender ports disables communication. You can also limit TCP/IP communication to the executables found in the installation paths of the BIS product.

3.6

Installing Connected Hardware Connecting a Modem for Remote Diagnostics Correctly installing and configuring a dial-up modem on the remote server PC allows Bosch technical support representatives to connect to the server PC for BIS troubleshooting purposes. NOTE! Bosch Security Systems recommends using the

USRobotics® 56K Fax modem with BIS. The special characteristics of company private telephone systems must be observed (for example, deactivating dial tone recognition, tone or pulse dialing). Installing the Modem Hardware Connect the modem to the remote server PC according to the supplied manufacturer documentation. Under Windows XP, many modem types are recognized automatically. NOTE! Take the special features of the installation into

consideration (for example, if the modem does not recognize a telephone system's dial tone, the option Wait for dial tone before dial must be selected). Windows XP Installations

NOTE! Windows XP users must be in Administrator mode to add new hardware.

Windows XP initially installs a modem using the default driver provided with XP. To install the driver shipped with

the modem, click Start, right-click the My Computer icon, then click Properties. 2.

Click the Hardware tab, then click Device Manager.

Under Modems, double-click U.S. Robotics 56K FAX EXT to view the modem properties.

Click the Driver tab, then select Update Driver. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), then click Next.

Select Don't search, I will choose the driver to install, then click Next.

Changing BIS passwords

Perform the following procedure to install these tools:

NOTE! This procedure works on both the BIS login server and on BIS client PCs.

Open Internet Explorer.

In the address field, type http:///ClientDeploy/ Tools.aspx, then press [Enter].

Backup and Restore Each BIS engine provides you with an easy method for: –

Backing up the Engine configurations. Refer to Section 4.1.1 Back Up a BIS Engine Installation, page 87.

Restoring an Engine configuration that was previously backed up. Refer to Section 4.1.2 Restore a BIS Engine Installation, page 90.

Restore a BIS Engine Installation NOTE! Ensure that the backup configuration is located in the C:\Backup directory before you perform an Engine configuration restore.

NOTE! You must stop the BIS server before performing a restore.

NOTE! When you perform a restore, the PC name must be the same as it was when the backup was created.

NOTE! You cannot perform a restore until after you create a backup. For more information, refer to Section 4.1.1 Back Up a BIS Engine Installation, page 87.

Check the connection to the control center, and activate a test alarm (refer to Operator Alarms and Simulation Alarms in the BIS Operation online help).

4.3.1

Check Hard Disk for Faults 1.

Close all open programs on the server, and stop all other computers in the system to avoid access problems if attempts are made to exchange data during the check.

2.

If the hard disk has two partitions, test the second partition first.

3.

Double-click My Computer, then right-click the hard disk icon.

4.

Select Properties, then the Tools tab in the Properties dialog box.

5.

Click Check now and activate the desired options for the data carrier check. The test ends with an execution message.

NOTE! If you perform the check on the first partition of a hard disk with two partitions, an error message appears if the

4.3.2

Optimize the Hard Disk Access the hard disk optimization programs (defragmentation and cleanup) using Start → All Programs → Accessories → System Tools → Disk Defragmenter or Disk Cleanup.

Back Up the Server’s Hard Disk Follow the same backup procedure for the BIS server PC that you would for any server that contains critical data.

NOTE! Bosch Security Systems strongly recommends that you back up the BIS server using a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID) or a Storage Area Network (SAN).

Faults The BIS interfaces and the server functions are monitored. If a fault occurs on these units, a corresponding message appears on the screen. The text of the error message can reveal the action you should take. If the fault is not specific, check for a loose cable. If the fault cannot be corrected, contact the service department or the product support department. Before calling for service, write down the exact wording of the error message, as well as the system functions that were executed immediately before the error occurred.
